  • Best way to prevent ice build up on windscreen 13 Nov 2009 (Forum)
Would the use of a de-humidifier such as you can buy from camping shops for the use in caravans/boats be of any use? It's quite frustrating to spend an extra 5 minutes or so scraping the inside of the windscreen each time I want to use my car during a particularly cold spell.
  • Which new car to buy? 2 Apr 2019 (Forum)
Budget ideally £15-£17k but might stretch to £19k depending on what I get for my car. Must have - reasonably high seating position, 5 doors, good all-round visibility Would like - fun to drive, heated front windscreen. I have very long legs (for a female, but probably also for anyone) and big feet and prefer an upright seating position ideally with knees higher than hips.
  • BMW 320D - Cheap Windscreen Solution When Not Covered By Ins 18 Mar 2012 (Forum)
I have motor trade insurance which doesn't cover windscreens in the same way as a private policy. Very strangely, I've noticed a massive crack in the windscreen of a E90 BMW 320D after a test drive last night. I remember years ago it cost about £900 to replace a windscreen on a E65 7 series - does anyone know of any companies that supply and fit windscreens at a lower cost?
  • Cleaning outside of windscreen without shrieks 7 Apr 2009 (Forum)
On an old car of mine no matter what I did the windscreen wipers used to make the most awful noise when it rained. Washing windscreen, using glass cleaner, replacing wiper blades, cleaning blades, whatever - still the same.
  • Volkswagen Golf - Intermittent fan speed issues 4 Nov 2024 (Forum)
On short journeys I have no issues - the car will heat up or cool down as quickly as I need it too. I’ve had the car at the garage but with the issue being intermittent, it’s hard to diagnose - there was work done on the car at the cost of around £250 but this still didn’t remedy the issue.
  • Replacement Windscreen - A Pink Tint 18 Jan 2005 (Forum)
Just had my '02 Omega windscreen replaced by Autoglass. The new windscreen has a very noticable pink/purplish tint and looks rediculous. The rest of the glass in the car is smokey grey/green. Autoglass assure me that it is the correct (new spec) windscreen for my vehicle and that the pinkiness will fade with time.
  • windscreen condensation 16 Feb 2002 (Forum)
My new W Reg Corsa appears to be suffering excessive interior condensation on the windscreen and windows. This happens when the car has been left sitting for any period of time. Anyone have any ideas as to the cause? Thanks.
  • Golf Mk IV front end "creaking" 22 Jun 2005 (Forum)
My 2001 TDi creaks like a comfy old rocking chair. The sound appears to come from the front wheel area, though to my amateur ear feels like it could be the suspension. Seems to be heat-related, often not occurring on short journeys but getting progressively louder and more frequent on longer distances.

  • Windscreen scratches - 2002 Polo 22 Mar 2004 (Forum)
How much fine scratching is normal on a car windscreen? We have noticed that our windscreen has thousands of fine scratches where the wiper blades go. We\'d never noticed that on our previous car, although on the new car it\'s only noticeable with oblique lighting (street lights at night or low sun).
  • Windscreen misting - what's the cause? 11 Jan 2013 (Ask HJ)
I bought an Octavia in Aug 2012. Ever since purchase, the windscreen has tended to mist up badly inside if there has been any change in outside temperature....
  • Could I repair a windscreen chip with nail varnish? 14 Jul 2010 (Ask HJ)
A thrown-up stone caused a chip on the base of my Honda CR-V's windscreen and apparently it's too small to be repaired. Would say clear nail varnish provide...
  • Ford Fiesta - Ford Fiesta MK6.5 - Passenger footwells leak 23 Mar 2021 (Forum)
Where we are now is the water looks to be coming in from the bottom left corner of the windscreen - but we're not sure if it is the windscreen. All we found is the sponge square pad in the corner is saturated with water & it looks like the water is travelling down a channel to leak, only slightly, into the drivers side.
  • Sat Navs obscuring view 25 Sep 2007 (Forum)
I have noticed quite a few cars over the last couple of weeks with Sat Navs fixed in to the windscreen that appear from my view to obstruct the driver's view, e.g. just under the rear view mirror, directly in front of the driver (central to steering wheel) etc, all would certainly fall within the "swept area" of the screen.
  • Windscreen excess charges 31 Dec 2006 (Forum)
On Friday the washing machine stopped working (new motherboard at £100 £75 call-out..) This morning I was washing the car when I noticed a horizontal 250mm. crack 50mm. from the bottom of the windscreen that wasn't there yesterday-(a stone chip at each end) unfortunately within the wiper arc, and the car goes in for its MOT next Tuesday, and my insurance company inform me that the windscreen excess went up from £50 to £75 a week ago...

  • Peugeot 307 5dr Rapier 52plt - Water in L/H/F footwell 26 Jan 2011 (Forum)
From the last few days of continous rain. Today noticed the L/H front footwell having a pool of water under the Rubber mat. Its not coolant water as the header tank is still at the same level as always. As far as I can see, the left hand heater vent under the windscreen is not blocked with debris looking through the mesh.
