  The controls in my car are simple - hit a button, turn a knob, which you can do without taking your eyes off the road. My cheapo Garmin satnav sits at the bottom of the windscreen, in line of sight but not obscuring it or distracting.

  Another winter driving tip: If you are using your windscreen wipers, when you come to the end of your journey remember to switch them off before you switch the ignition off. The wipers will go to their 'parked' position (front and rear wipers). When you re-start your car if its frosty or covered in snow the wipers won't be straining against being frozen to the glass or a heavy load of snow.

  I've got a new shape VW polo and the front factory windscreen wipers have started smearing. So I measured the sizes (24" & 16") and looked online for Bosch aerotwin ones. I've have now bought and returned both the Multi clip (AM24U) and retro fit (AR24U) ones as none of them fit!

  http://tinyurl.com/7rl8k 21 year old in his car with his mates. Spots a Scamera van on bridge over road. Is doing 20mph (in a 40mph zone) and he takes both hands off the wheel, leans towards the windscreen and gives the van 2 "V" signs. Of course this is captured on camera, is handed over to police and they prosecute him for dangerous driving as had both hands off the wheel.

  When I go around a bend the dash creaks and groans like mad. The car is just over two years old. I've tried a few of the old tricks, for example, being liberal with the Pledge and turning the CD player up but it still persists. At first I though it was related to the steering column but having finally located the cause (by driving around a bend and reaching forward and pressing the dashboard down where it meets the windscreen in front of me) I'm fairly sure that it is the dash.

  As I don\'t like to waste a good worry, could anyone out there manage to assuage my slight concern as to whether a flattish, triangular-shaped sea shell approximately 10p sized that was flicked by a young 8 year-old lad of my acquaintance (god bless his banjaxed ears) from the back seat of my Mercedes to the front thereby scoring a direct goal into the heating vents at the top of the dash could, sooner or later, cause damage. As of now the registered owner of the vehicle is unaware of the situation and I would like it to remain that way!!

  I spoke with vwdiesels who say the kit comes with a voltage converter and to date, they're not aware of any overheating problems. This sounds ok but isn't exactly a cast-iron guarantee that the front of the car won't burst into flames as I drive overnight from Land's End to John O'Groats. The cost looks very reasonable, so I'm tempted. But I'd like to know if anyone has an opinion to the contrary?

  When I purchased the above vehicle the heater the heater didn't work at all and i was advised to replace the resistor pack under the front scuttle. The blower then worked only on position 1 & 2 but as it was summer it wasn't that miuch of a big deal. Now the winter is here the blower hasn't got the oomph to demist the windscreen whilst driving at motorway speeds in arctic conditions!!!!

  The central locking isn't working on the driver's door. What could be causing this? Faulty motor perhaps? 2. No water comes out of the windscreen washer jets, either at the front or the back. The motors sound like they're working and there's water in the washer bottle. TIA for any help! Steve.

  Hi everyone, the problem i have with my '02 vectra is that my windscreen washer motor runs but no water comes out !! Ihave checked the nozzles are free and theres water in the reservoir! I disconnected the pipe at the nozzles but still no water so i assume that the motor is all gunged up. what i need to know is, how do i remove the washer motor without removing the front bumper ?

  Got up early this morning to head to Sheffield to meet a client. On getting to my front door, I found my door keys on the mat. Turned to look to where they should go (key hooks about 8 feet from front door), and realised my car keys were gone. Sure enough, my 2001(51) Volvo S80 2.4 SE had been half-inched.

  Just washed the car. Its hot here, down south (london). Thought i would wash the soap off with the hose. The cooler water has caused a big crack in the windscreen. I hope no one else on here makes this stupid mistake.
