Sat nav cradle leaving circles on windscreen - how do I get rid of them?

My last two cars, both Volkswagen, have noticeable circles on the windscreen when the screen is misty. They are obviously the result of the suction pads that are affixed to the screen during installation.

How does one get rid of these circles? They are also visible on the rear screen. I have used several glass cleaners but the marks still remain.

Try wet newspaper with a few drops of Fairy Liquid on it. That's a reader's cure because apparently the graphite in the newsprint works as a mild abrasive. Otherwise Mer windscreen cleaner that dries to a powder, or Eucryl smokers toothpaste (if you can find it).
