  • '97 Nissan Mistral - water in footwell? 26 Feb 2007 (Forum)
My dad has a '97 Mistral (Terrano import) and has developed a very soggy carpet in the passenger side footwell. He took it in for service 2 weeks back and the garage poked around and cleared some drainage holes, but this hasn't solved the problem.
  • S-Max or Touran Owners 21 Jan 2007 (Forum)
Hi, I am in the process of changing my car, test driven my options and am now down to 3 possibilities: S-Max 1.8 TDci Titanium X Pack Touran 2.0 Tdi SE DSG Citroen C4 Picasso 1.6 Hdi Exec The citroen is probably too new for you input but if you have an S-Max or Touran diesel, could you please give me an idea on what MPG you get in the real world. I travel approx 40,000 miles per year so economy is important. Most of my driving is at a constant 70MPH on motorways, long journeys. All input most welcome Thanks
  • Wheeler Dealers 6 Sep 2006 (Forum)
New series has started on Discovery - Sunday evenings is the repeat of the week night episode. Last night was a mid 70s 911 2.7 Targa. Import from the west coast of the US, so no bad weather to contend with, but it was British Racing Green - not a good colour. Bought for £5,000 - bodywork and interior sound. Problem with gearbox identified on test drive, but they hoped it was merely a stretched gear linkage cable - it wasn't.
  • More motorway nonsense 8 Aug 2006 (Forum)
Why should I keep to 40mph if they can't keep their end of the deal? As my friend said, if they're going to shut a section of a motorway that's that busy and that important, they should be working 24/7 on it. Same further up near Stafford. I have NEVER seen anyone working on any of these roadworks, and am at the end of my tether about it. Who do I complain to?
  • Does the Volvo C70 exist?! 4 Jul 2006 (Forum)
Three months ago I paid a 10% deposit for the new Volvo C70... They still can't give me a delivery date, or even a build date! The UK importer has absolutely NO IDEA when the car might turn up, other than hopefully sometime in October/November. Anyone seen any of these cars on the road?! I reckon that they have a production problem. - But they are sitting on over 2 grand of my money, without any explanation or apology!
  • New Fiesta TDCi control box ticking 25 Jun 2006 (Forum)
Question is, is there any possibility of it breaking, as it needs to take me to Paris on Monday, and wiping out a critical system or two? As I don't know where the loose connection is, i don't want it to fail something important! Any thought? Thanks -------------- Mike Farrow
  • How can you tell ? 22 Jun 2006 (Forum)
My son got his imported 2nd hand Toyota Lucida yesterday. The dealer assured him they had changed the cambelt. They had shown him the old belt, (well, an old belt) but a suspicious person like me can't help wondering. The engine seems very clean, and has fresh oil, but should he have some documentation to say the job had been done ?
  • Foreign Plated Cars 25 May 2006 (Forum)
What is the situation with regards to Tax, Insurance and conversion to UK Specification. When I imported a LHD car, I had 6 months to convert it to UK spec so that I could tax it in the UK. I'm sure these cars have the same ruling, they must convert if they stay longer than 6 months. What happens if you have an accident with these foreign plated cars?
  • Police 4x4, Focus in collision. 21 Apr 2006 (Forum)
I am sure that from a safety point of view it is as good as any car in it's class, but this footage scared me. I will now seriously consider joining 'the big boys'. My family's safety is more important than the extra expense. Regards DougB.
  • Weather forecast for a whole journey? 30 Nov 2005 (Forum)
Knowing the forecast tommorow is predicting black ice (because of rain falling onto frozen roads I understand), and also knowing I have an important meeting 130 miles away I started wondering...... Is there a website that gives you an accurate forecast of the weather you are likly to be driving though on a complete journey. I can go to the BBC weather website and put in a town or postcode but I will be doing a jaunt on the M3, M25 and M23 so this is not so relevant.
  • Last generation Honda Prelude headlights 31 Aug 2005 (Forum)
Does anyone know if the headlights on the last generation (1996-01) Prelude can be adjusted for French pattern left dipping, or do they have to be replaced? This isn't for a holiday in France, I want to import one, so 'beam benders' may not be the answer. I still find it necessary to bring cars over here from the UK because I'm appalled by the couldn't care less attitude of French dealers! (Not to mention that my dicky knee makes it easier to get in from the right).
  • Update to the Highway Code 18 May 2005 (Forum)
re approaching too fast and can?t stop 2. You don?t look far enough ahead to see the lights 3. You?re in a hurry 4. You?re too important to be bothered 5. You just don?t feel like stopping at the moment. This scheme has been trialled in London for a while and I have observed it is now being rolled out into the rest of the country.
  • Insured to the nearest minute? 8 Dec 2004 (Forum)
The insurer wanted to know not only what day I was changing the car, but also the exact time - I was warned that this was important and if I was incorrect I would not be covered (horrible image of being delayed en route to collect new car and finding myself driving without insurance, or being unable to drive old car to dealer to collect replacement).
  • Best Automatic - Help Required 4 Nov 2004 (Forum)
2:Must have a 5 start NCAP 3: Has to be as high as the Ford fiesta, or higher for that commanding driving position. 4: No bigger than the ford focus, Or smaller than the MB, A class. 5: Must be very reliable. 6: At least a 12 year corrision warranty. 7; Good handling. Of course you don't have to justify every question - the important answer we are looking at is the most reliable aut/cvt box. Thanks in advance Lucian Deville
  • FI question - Ferrari pitstops? 14 Sep 2004 (Forum)
However, the CENTRE of the car, where the driver is, seemed to be 'fuzzed out' on the picture... You know the technique - they use it on the news to cover important people's number plates, and criminals' faces. I can only assume TWO things. 1) There is some form of advertising (Tobacco) on the area ahead of the driver, and this constitutes a part of the tobacco advertising ban in Italy?
  • Good Bora TDi 150 deal? Help! 14 Sep 2004 (Forum)
Dear All, I've been offered a met. black VW Bora (52 2002 plate) Sport TDi 150, for £12,700, with £8500 as partex value for my Ford Focus TDCi 115bhp Zetec (it's an import, 52 plate 2002, 13k miles, with climate, reflex packs + ford spoiler, towbar). Can anyone provide feedback and let me know if this is a good deal? I am trying to avoid depreciation on my Focus (and get what I can for it) when the new Focus comes out.
  • Question for Dan J (Mondeo TDCi auto) 28 Apr 2004 (Forum)
Is it worth arranging a test drive or merely a waste of salesman's and my time? The driving experience is more important than the figures. Plus of course the auto is only available with Euro III engine which is another big minus. Would appreciate objective comments. Ta FiF
  • Edinburgh? Advice please.... 2 Apr 2004 (Forum)
In mid July I have a business meeting with both a Kiwi and an American associate who are of some conderable importance to me. We normally hold this in London but got a bit tired of that and settled on Edinburgh, which yours truly blurted out as a possible location without any knowledge of the place. I shall be picking them up from LHR and driving up.
  • Trying to buy a Leon Cupra R ! 30 Mar 2004 (Forum)
However, I cannot find a dealer anywhere in the London area willing to negotiate on the £18,015 asking price. Has anyone had a positive experience with a SEAT dealer or trustworthy importer who will negotiate?! Also, I have heard that an all new Leon will be coming out later this year. Does anyone know if the NEW Leon Cupra R will be worth waiting for? The SEAT dealers I have spoken to say better to buy now as new one may take at least 18 months - but call me sceptical, aren't they just trying to make sales targets now?
  • High mileage estates 30 Mar 2004 (Forum)
Body looks OK, are these a better bet and is say 140.000 miles on a 2.3l 940 volvo going to last or a bit too tired at that age? I know the history is very important but most have some history but rarely complete. I'm talking petrol engines here not diesels by the way. In terms of petrol engines which cars have an exellent reputation for longevity? Thanks
