  • ByPass Immobliser - vw polo 27 Jul 2005 (Forum)
Hi, I drive a VW Polo 1.6 CL (N Reg). I have lost the remote of central locking and alarm. I think the car has a built in immobliser as well (I am not sure about it but the technical specs of the model say it).

  • New tyres on RWD car 23 Jun 2005 (Forum)
However they fitted the 2 new tyres to the front wheels. I'm no expert, but this seemed odd on a rear-drive car (IS200). I now have ANOTHER puncture(!). When I take the car in, should I ask for them to switch the new tyres to the rear?
  • Prominent tow bars 17 Jun 2005 (Forum)
As an aside, the deliquent driver blamed the 'rubbish' visibility from the rear of her behemoth, not her driving technique. I give up.
  • 306 "STOP" light keeps flashing 12 Jun 2005 (Forum)
Hi, I have a W reg 2000 Peugeot 306 Meridian 1.4, and the "STOP" light on the dashboard keeps flashing whilst I am driving along but no other lights come on. It sometimes stays on but I have checked everything I can think of but I can't get it to stop. It doesn't seem to have an effect on the car as it still runs fine.
  • MOT test and fuel additives 26 May 2005 (Forum)
Our fitter in work suggested it would be a good idea, they did it with the workshop van when it failed on emissions, but it them passed the next day after adding it and driving around for a day.

  • ford focus alternator 13 May 2005 (Forum)
I run a 51 plate Focus 1.6 Zetec with 48000 miles. The alternator just packed up. First warning was battery light flicking on and off whilst driving, then the car failed completely on the road. Paid £200 to an independent garage to supply and fit new one. It was sourced from a Ford dealer. I am a bit miffed that it gave up at that age and mileage.
  • Audi A4 Stalling in low revs 6 May 2005 (Forum)
My 2000 (W) Audi A4 pick up a nasty habit of stalling when in neutral and in low revs, it happens when I am driving and sellect neutral (traffic lights, junction, etc). The revs go down to 400 rpm and sometimes junp back to a normal 800 rpm, other times the engine just stops. Any ideas? Could it be bad fuel?
  • Golf MK2 Heating / Cooling 5 May 2005 (Forum)
My heater is warm only until the thermostat opens then it goes cold. This problem is hardly noticed driveing around locally but recently I have driven to Aberdeen and back (500 miles each way) during the night and I was frrrrrrreezing! I have flushed out the system and tested the heater element with my garden hose.
  • One for Blue Haddock 2 May 2005 (Forum)
One of them has a T4 2.4 Avensis. Up until 10 minutes ago I never knew they existed! Are the 2.4s any good to drive? I must confess I found the previous Avensis boring but the new one is growing on me - the estate even more so. Are these 2.4's pricey or worth the money? This one is a saloon in a deep blue. It really looks the part.
  • Speeding (mostly excl cameras) XXVIII 2 May 2005 (Forum)
I thought my old Cav V6 was rapid, but it was nothing to the Vectra being driven by the police officer in this story "A police constable accused of driving at speeds of up to 159mph, has told a court that at no time did he consider he was putting anybody at risk." http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/shropshire/4461977.stm (NOTE FROM HJ ABOUT LINKS TO THE BBC.
  • Mondeo St 155 tdci or 130 zetec S 29 Mar 2005 (Forum)
Is the ST with 155bhp worth the extra over the 'S'. It's looks more attractive and has a better spec, but is it substantially better to drive?
  • How long to trace hit and run driver? 22 Mar 2005 (Forum)
Hello all, 3 weeks ago my car was hit by an unscrupulous Fiesta driver who then decided to drive off. I have since paid £350 to replace a steering rod and realign the wheels and ~ £250 is pending to fix the bodywork. I reported this to the Police and my insurance company immediately, but things have not progressed since.
  • Fiesta - temp gauge/heater problem 6 Mar 2005 (Forum)
Last night I had the dubious privelege of driving my son's Fiesta (1995/96,000ml/1.1L) home in near freezing conditions. Since I last drove it, the heater had packed up and I noticed that the temerature gauge wasn't registering. Are these things likely to be connected, and where should I first start looking?
  • Permanent address required? 12 Feb 2005 (Forum)
Perhaps their human rights outway the legal requirements of the land. Following on from this, is a person of 'no fixed abode' still able to own and be insured to drive a vehicle? I await your replies before thinking of becoming of 'no fixed abode'.
  • Another insurance query 9 Feb 2005 (Forum)
Last month , whilst driving the firm's lorry ,I had a low speed "coming together" with a car at some roadworks and the car was slightly damaged (door miror and trim). Details were exchanged and the insurance companies have been left to do their thing .Hopefully my company will deal with it all with no further input from me .
  • Volvo 480 speedo 1 Feb 2005 (Forum)
The speedo on my L reg 480 1.7 turbo has a habit of sticking at one speed. It doesn't occur in the first few minutes of driving, and seems to occur when you've been cruising at a certain speed, e.g. 65pmh, or 45 mph. Then no amount of deceleration / acceleartion will make the needle budge, even switching off while standing at traffic lights doesn't cure.
