He has found a car and agreed a price subject to a fairly knowledgeable friend doing another test drive. The friend suggested we do an AA car data check. This is a well known reputable dealer. The data check is showing the car is owned by the car manufacturer,as we were told, but it is showing as 5 door ,whilst it is actually a 3 door. -

Ford Focus (1998 - 2004) - 02 1.9 glow plug warning indicator 18 Aug 2008 (Forum)
Usually occurs when the engine is "labouring", but not neccesarily always. It is intermittent and doesn't appear to affect the drive in any way. She has had the glow plugs changed, with no change. Any ideas? Is there any commonly known problem that she needs to know about (or worry about?!) Thanks in advance. -

Nissan Micra (1992 - 2003) - 1998 1.3 Clicking/ticking noise - any ideas? 10 Aug 2008 (Forum)
Does anyone have any idea what could be the cause of the clicking/ticking noise, coming from the engine of my Micra? It's not very loud, you can't hear it if you're driving over 30mph. And does anyone know a good garage in Reading/Slough that will give it a once over without charging/not charging much? Would greatly appreciate any input. -

I expect this type of car due to the weight is not going to be high performance but it is really struggling to go and there is a vibration through the front wheels at approx 40 mile an hour which I can only describe as trying to drive the car with the front wheels seized on. very sluggish. Any ideas please? Mike. -

www.parkers.co.uk/cars/road-tax/ {please don't make links to parkers clickable} With a stated aim of punishing those who drive "gas Guzzlers", I was amused to note that my Dad's 1.4 Skoda Fabia goes up from £170 to £210 a year. -
Hybrids - is there any point? 8 Jul 2008 (Forum)
I have a 1998 Civic 1.4, with nodding dog, flat cap and an extra blanket on the parcel shelf, guess what, it does 45-50mpg between fill-ups (if you drive carefully) Why should a hybrid be excused the congestion charge? Are politicians pulling our legs? Is there any point in all the additional complexity and cost? How can a 2 tonne hybrid Lexus 4x4 possibly be seen as environmentally friendly? -

Do the speed warning signs bother you? 18 Jun 2008 (Forum)
First time I activated one I nearly soiled my underpants but now they are just another part of the driving landscape and I ignore them except for the occasional though of what a waste of money. Am I typical? Do you still notice them? -
HGV licences 2 Jun 2008 (Forum)
There was an article this weekend about Willi Betz who are the largest haulage company in Europe the owner is in prison at the moment one of his offences was for buying HGV licences from the old eastern block countries for his drivers. These licences were readily available to anyone for a modest sum and then could be exchanged for a German licence or in fact any EU member states licence the point being how many drivers are now driving on these licences as they cannot be revoked even if they could discover them as to all intent they are genuine bits of paper gestimate is in the many thousands.Frightening. -
Getting to Kew Gardens 23 May 2008 (Forum)
I've just come across Kew Gardens' new "tree walk" thingy, and that sounds interesting. What's my best bet for getting there from Cambridge? I'm sure not driving through the middle of London, so I could either go all the way around the M25 and in somewhere (and then where the heck do I park) or take public transport of some sort, with the minimum of changes. -
Fuel prices California style 11 May 2008 (Forum)
There was a front page article in USA Today yesterday about how the latest increase is having a major impact on how people are changing their driving habits...big trucks sales are taking a hammering, and even my friend with her 2.5 Outback now remarks on how expensive it is to gas up. If only it was as cheap in the UK! -

I've just bought a second car that I'll be driving purely at my pizza delivery job. When I'm working the work insurance covers me so I only need TPFT non-business insurance. What's your experience about getting the second car insured? Would I expect some discount from my current car insurer or should I look at getting a new cover? -
