  • Volkswagen Golf III (1992 - 1997) - Drivers sitting too close to steering wheel 13 Aug 2007 (Forum)
Hi all, Whilst winding down the M6 to work yesterday (just love quiet summer traffic) I noticed a fair number of drivers with their seat really close to the steering wheel. They were a mix of young women or elderly people and they seemed to have the seat as fully forward as possible. Would this increase the likelyhood of injuries if they had a crash ?

  • The youth of today 30 Aug 2006 (Forum)
In a survey carried out by the AA, 20% of young male drivers were unable to identify the dipstick on the engine of their own cars. 2.5% of those questioned pointed out the battery as being the dipstick, and a further number thought the radiator cap was where you put the oil.

  • Vauxhall Astra - Is it fair? 11 Sep 2015 (Forum)
Hi there,  This company - Friendly Car Insurance - offered me a very interesting insurance for my 2008 Astra. I am quite young driver so saving money is important for me. I am insured in Aviva but they are offering me the 200 GBP reduction. I must choose insurance very fast - so question for you - have you ever heard about this company?
  • Ford - TV car advert - is it just me ? 6 Apr 2014 (Forum)
Just seen a Ford avert. Young couple whizzing along a bendy road presumably demonstrating sporty road holding. They are having an argument , the guy then texts the girl driver who reads it on the car display. They then whiz off happily - lucky nothing happened whilst she had her eyes off the road ?
  • Insurance hike for girls. 25 Dec 2012 (Forum)
All the press seems to be about the insurance hike for young female drivers to make them compatible with the higher risk male group of similar age. Given that the risk for the females won't change are the insurance companies just cashing in? I will always think it unfair but given they have to comply with the European ruling should the companies be adopting a middle ground and lowering premiums for males thereby reducing the increase for females?
  • Can this be justice? 5 Feb 2004 (Forum)
I have just heard that the hit and run driver responsible for killing 9 year old Callum Oakford has been sentenced to just 2 years in prison. The driver, with no licence, insurance etc. was given: 16 months for having a false passport; 4 months for having no licence/insurance and 4 months for failing to stop.
  • Insuring the Car - young new driver 16 Jul 2003 (Forum)
They don't even want me to change to them for my car! (£500 XS for her, £150 for us) Have also found (girls only I'm afraid) Young Lady Driver, who do policies for 6 months only at just half the price of a full year (not slightly more for the 6 months) and will then renew with a 1 year NCD at the 7th month (at the prevailing cost) They say on their website she has to be the registered owner and keeper, but when I mailed them, they said if the car belongs to a parent, then that's ok.

  • 96 Golf TDI-sell or keep? 29 Feb 2004 (Forum)
Only worth £1800-£2K on trade-so would you just run it on 'til it drops or is it a big repair bill waiting to happen? It does the job for me at the moment and with a young driver would hesitate at letting him in a new car.
  • Retail Parks with black tyre marks 22 Jul 2019 (Forum)
Should these drivers get charged with cleaning up the tyre marks?
  • Insurance Question - knock for knock?? 22 Aug 2009 (Forum)
My daughter is a young driver and has a £400 excess on her 53 plate Fiesta. Another driver came in from a junction to her left on a roundabout and pranged her car. Her innocence shouldn't be difficult to prove but you know how it can be if the other party starts making things up.
  • any - Accident prevention 21 Nov 2012 (Forum)
In today's Telegraph OnLine is a thought provoking article : http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/politics/9683206/Young-drivers-could-be-banned-from-carrying-non-family-passengers.html One of the marked things about having two cars coming up fast and overtaking dangerously is that they are generally driven by two mates egging each other on.
  • Must my daughter pay for damage? 15 Jul 2009 (Forum)
Is she liable for the damage? She doesn't want to go via insurance company as she has a large excess anyway as a young driver.
  • Are you a risk taker on the road? 26 Aug 2008 (Forum)
Hey all, I'm a student doing a study on young drivers aged 18-23 on the subject of risky behaviour. I'd really appreciate it if you filled out this quick survey for me, so I can do some awesome science and figure out whether we are a nation of psychopaths driving ourselves to oblivion.
