Saab - Why should Saab survive? 8 Nov 2011 (Forum)
I’m so very happy that Saab fans will get the chance to see them.' No one knows how good the Chinese will be at developing and running European car companies. Time will tell. No doubt some will still slag of Saab and think the company should die. Saab as always been an innovator It's probably brought more world firsts to the market than big boys GM/Ford etc. -
Ford Mondeo - dpf removal 6 Nov 2011 (Forum)
Hi, Gents anyone put me right on this one, Ford mondeo Titanium 2.2 running as a cab so milage is racking up quickly, in an effort to pre-empt the inevitable failure of the dpf i have been looking at having it removed. The are legions of companies advertising this service, but the thing that drives me mad is this desire to remap and download software to block the regen cycle, as far as i know the regen is only initiated by the sensors at either end of the dpf sensing the pressure difference between what is going in and what is coming out. -
FIAT Punto II (1999 - 2006) - 02 1.1 Keeps cutting out, no power 19 Oct 2011 (Forum)
Had it in a local garage and they honestly don't know what's wrong with it and can't diagnose it and advised us to take it to another garage to run diagnostics on it. Anyone any clues to what this could be and how much are we looking at? It's a Fiat Punto, 52 plate, manual 1.1. Any help would be muchly appreciated. Chris. -
Cheap, smallish, reliable car recommendations 26 Sep 2011 (Forum)
Budget would be up to £8k but as depreciation is a concern I am prepared to pay less for an older car, it needs to be reliable, economical and have a minimum of 5 seats. There'd be a mix of town, country and motorway driving with the odd run of up to 150 miles but mostly 30 miles or so a day, 15k per annum I'd guess. Current shortlist includes Fiesta, Hyundai i20/i30, Seat Ibiza, Citroen C3 Pluriel (my partner wants one!) but there's a lot of choice out there so I'd like some recommendations. -
Diesel Family car - cheap tax 19 Sep 2011 (Forum)
Can anyone suggest an alternative fairly good size family car (not huge though), cheap to tax, insure and run. And am I right that Diesels are cheaper to tax, or is it only some makes and models? Thanks, Delilah -
VW Passat 2006 Diesel Estate - Emissions Garage! 12 Sep 2011 (Forum)
The best we have done is to get it to stay off for about 2 months. The car starts and runs beautifully and I have not the slightest doubt that the glow plugs are fine - for instance, it started easily all last winter in that cold weather and was standing outside. I am getting so frustrated with the wretched thing so if anyone has a shortcut to the probelm I would be delighted as the cost of getting nowhere is probably £350 + so far! -
BMW 535i - SORN,MOTs and all that gubbins 18 Aug 2011 (Forum)
13 yr old BMW E39 535i being laid to rest for a couple of years until she's a classic (hasn't even done 100K, never failed an MOT can't bear to part with it for the kind of valuations I'm getting (£500-1000!)) I will be using a MkIV Golf (10 yr old) in the meantime as it's a bit cheaper to run about it on a daily basis and my wife's just got a 7 year old Volvo V40 (tells me the Golf was too small but it will do me!!) Question is: shall I renew the MOT on the BMW? (due in 1 month) Or should I do a SORN (statutory off-road notification)? -
Peugeot 206 1.4 HDI SW - Peugeot 206 1.4HDI poor fuel ecomomy 28 Jun 2011 (Forum)
If the guage is accurate this means I have used 2.5 gallons to do 45 miles, about 18mpg. The reason I bought this was for economy!!!! I have no idea where to start, the car runs fine, starts fine. I am worried now in case I have bought a lemon. Any advice woud be appreciated. Thanks -

VW T5 Transporter - VW T5 Transporter and speeds 1 Jun 2011 (Forum)
Is there any advantage in getting it reclassed as a campervan, or can I have reclassed as something private that would allow me to run at normal speed limits. Ironic that someone can have a Bently or a big 4x4 that weighs more than a fully loaded T5 and not have any speed restrictions. Any advice appreciated. -
Ford Mondeo 2.0 TDCI Titanium 163 BHP - Brand new mondeo with diesel knock 30 May 2011 (Forum)
I bought a brand new Mondeo 2.0 TDCI Titanium 163 BHP from a Ford dealer in April. I took care to run it in as the manual instructed and completed 1800 miles before I took it for it's first proper drive. I did a round trip 120 miles and worked the car fairly hard. The next morning I didn't have the stereo on and realised that it sounded like a transit when I accelerate over 3000rpm. -
Peugeot 206 sw 1.4 hdi 2005 - Unknown peugeot fault code 14 May 2011 (Forum)
I'd also like to know which of these faults triggered the engine fault light? Could the car have been running quite happily for some time with one of these faults? I had not noticed anything unusual in the cars behaviour prior to the light coming on. thanks for your help Ben -
n/a - Small Car Suggestions (Thank you please) 12 May 2011 (Forum)
We currently have a Seat Arosa that my wife uses to commute to work (35 miles a day total) and also had an Ibiza Sdi which has sadly passed on. The ibiza was used for 80 - 100 miles a week short runs and a 350 mile motorway journey once a month. I am thinking we need to use the Arosa for the light duties and whatever we get as a replacement should be used for the wife's commute and the once a month motorway haul. -
Ford Fiesta 2001 - 2001 Fiesta on ebay - high miles - should I bid? 26 Mar 2011 (Forum)
pt=Automobiles_UK&hash=item1e62627e74#ht_679wt_1139 Just passed MOT. 167 k miles. I'm after a cheap run around. I just last week scrapped my beloved mk2 fiesta. I don't do a lot of miles, I don't care about the dents, I just want something reasonably reliable. There's a bit of rust on the wheel arches in the pics. -
peugeot 306 meridian 1.4 petrol - peugeot 306 problem 21 Mar 2011 (Forum)
I had a friend take a look and says the starter is ok but is unsure exactly what is causing it. he said it maybe the brown 15 pin connector bolted to the back of the ecu case but wasnt sure as to what it is for. As he was taking a look he noticed a wire running fom one of the fuses in the fuse box next to the battery to a square black connector at the top of the fuse box and said that shouldnt be there like its bypassing something. Also if this helps the car has had a light driver side bang just damaging the wing, light and bumper. -
Mercedes-Benz A-Class - Suing small trade in court over faulty car 4 Mar 2011 (Forum)
He doesn't reply, and trading standards look completely useless at this stage. It looks like I am going to court to get my money back. My insurance is due to run out on the 12th March so I need some sensible action plan in place asap. Would I stand a realistic chance in court to get anything back? Can I repair it in the meantime and sue, thus avoiding buying another car in the meantime and having two expensive insurance policies? -
Toyota Yaris - Toyota hot starting problem 21 Feb 2011 (Forum)
It may splutter a bit but it's as if something, either the sparks or the fuel, is turned off and won't come back on until the second time of trying. At which point it merrily will start and run just like it should. So far I have changed the MAF to no improvement, but now I think I need to start testing things. What should I be looking at, please? This isn't a common problem with Yarises as far as I can tell. -
Ford Mondeo Mk IV 2009 2.0 tdci 140 - Engine operating temperature 16 Feb 2011 (Forum)
The needle only reaches about 1/3 of the way up gauge - that is despite sitting in traffic for hours at a time, so I assume that this is a problem with overcooling although i am yet to hear the cooling fan cut in. Other than this the car runs perfectly and we are being provided with plenty of heat from the climate control system. (I have tried switching off the climate control and still have the same problem, so it doesnt seem to be this that is affecting the temperature). -
Escort heated rear windscreen 8 Feb 2011 (Forum)
The next step is the main fuses in the engine compartment. It says there are 5 in my car, but only three are present in mine, each with a cable running off it to somewhereorother. The one involved with the heated rear windscreen doesnt seem to be present, and even if i put it in its slot there is no cable obvious to take the current away! Is the Haynes manual wrong about this, or is it possible that the fuse is somehow linked to one of the cables on the other fuses? -
Citroen grand C4 Picasso - Yes or No 5 Feb 2011 (Forum)
if i stay away from the Auto box, i can get a 5speed manual vtr+ with 15000 miles for £8k. Does it look a good option for everyday running around with the family onboard. Its going to be used as a loadlugger and will take a bit of a hammering occasionally but will cover hardly any mileage, hence the petrol option. Thoughts please everyone...
