Land Rover Defender (1946 - ) - Land Rover or other 4X4 for a smallholding? 27 Sep 2009 (Forum)
I may not succeed in buying it, but I am trying to do some of my research in advance, to get an idea of costs. One of the many issues I'm checking is vehicles. My current car is a 5yo Nissan Almera automatic, which is a great car for my current suburban existence but ill-suited to agricultural use -- because it's lousy at towing any sort of weight, and has little load capacity. I reckon that my on-farm needs can be best managed with a 4WD utility quad bike and small trailer. 4WD and soft tyres is ideal for getting over the damp land in question, and a quad is much lighter than a tractor. -
C4 Picasso 6 Apr 2007 (Forum)
Pulling away was easy enough, move the small lever on top of the steering column to ?A? and press the accelerator pedal, the electronic parking brake automatically releases and away you go. The steering feels very light with little feedback, but for this type of car I would expect this, building up speed the car started to move up through the gears, not the smoothest of changes, even my 10 yr old Accord manages smoother gear changes, but then I suppose it is not a conventional auto box. -

Aisin (Japanese) Carb-equipped - The Snake Pit : Stripping a Late 80's Carburettor 16 May 2016 (Forum)
I've done a couple of simple motorcycle ones (Kymco Zing 150cc Honda CG125 clone, and Yamaha RZR 133cc 2-stroke) a few times and had evolved a technique involving boiling with automatic washing powder, and then blasting the passages out with first the detergent, and then alcohol. The latter gets around the lack of compressed air, the former the fact that, in my limited experience, the sludge in motorcycle carbs was mostly a greyish mineral-looking deposit (maybe a corrosion product?) -
