  • Run Flat Tyres 3 Nov 2006 (Forum)
I would appreciate anyones opinion as to the lifespan of a runflat as opposed to normally 'aspirated' tyres. Am about to test drive a vehicle this weekend and in my research can only find tyres at £160 a piece and comments at the what car site about the tyres not lasting at all well! (yes I am testing an E60 touring m sport-braced for the boneshaker ride!).
  • Focus clutch... 15 Oct 2006 (Forum)
I believe my clutch is slipping (change gear, lift clutch, revs hang, not a lot happens), and I was thinking about replacing it. I drive a 1.6 Focus 51-reg. I wondered if anyone had any idea of what this might actually cost, I'll be ringing around both independents and Ford garages tomorrow, and I always think it's best to have some idea of what to pay...
  • What happens to HGVs in Switzerland? 15 Oct 2006 (Forum)
Got back last week from a holiday in Italy, driving there and back. On a Thursday afternoon, we noticed, on entering Switzerland, the enormous (stationary) queue of HGVs at the border. At another point (not a border), dozens of HGVs had been taken off the motorway and were laid up at a sort of service area.
  • 306 steering 13 Oct 2006 (Forum)
Friend has just bought a P plate facelift 306 which when driving feels like the steering wheel is tugging NOT juddering. She had the wheels balanced & tracked yesterday which made the steering much better but still tugs. When u let go of the wheel the car heads left towards the kerb, as the tracking has been done, where is the next best place to start to cure the tugging?

  • new a-class merc windscreen wipers 31 Aug 2006 (Forum)
i have just bought a 'nearly new' A200CDI 3-door. all fine except i notice the wipers are for left-hand drive - the left one has a longer blade and wipes higher up the screen. it is not possible, so far as i can see, to fit a longer right hand side blade without it fouling the left. does anyone have a solution, please

  • Lidl motoring 14 Aug 2006 (Forum)
Having given Lidl's Sugarland Gala Fruit sweets a 400 mile test drive today, I can thoroughly recommend them - really intense fruit flavours (with a gel centre!) -500 gr. for about £1.25. Well worth keeping in the glove box. The sweets each lasted for about 15 miles at 65-70 mph. though this will obviously vary according to sucking technique.
  • Yaris rattle 12 Aug 2006 (Forum)
It seems to come from the airbag cover, and seems to decrease if you press down on the cover (tricky to do whilst driving...). Does anyone know if there could be a clip or bracket or something that'a come lose? and more importantly, is the airbag likely to 'go off'? Thanks in advance for any advice S6 1SW
  • single pedals in cars 9 Aug 2006 (Forum)
I'm sure I watched an article about the developement of a single pedal for driving so one movement accelerates and the opposite movement applies the brakes, all on the same pedal. As someone who recently miss judged the distance between accelerator and brake, with near dire consequences, on a rarely used vehicle, why has this design not been developed and bought in as a standard design, it seems too obvious not to be a great idea
  • Best car for a teenage learner 19 Jul 2006 (Forum)
My 18 yr old wants to learn to drive. Great idea, but I want him to buy his own car. I'll help with the insurance but I really don't want him in mine. If its his own money he'll be more careful (I hope). So, we are looking for diesel, economy, low insurance, and bangernomics to keep the cost down.
  • Germany to Sweden route 16 Jul 2006 (Forum)
I will be driving from Hamburg to Malmo soon and I'm undecided whether to take the ferry from Puttgarden over to Rodby or go the long way round. As far as I can tell the ferry will cost about £85 so it looks like that is the expensive option.
  • Petrol in Dunkerque (well diesel) 14 Jul 2006 (Forum)
Hi all I am driving to Germany today/tomorrow. My ferry from Dover to Dunkerque is at midnight; anyone know a 24 hour garage for when I get to Dunkerque? I aim to fill up abroad, as it's cheaper! I am wary of the automated ones, as I had a bit of a Basil Fawlty moment at one in 2003.....

  • Quick Question re producer time limit 23 Jun 2006 (Forum)
Anyway, she reported it last night and was of course presented with a producer (HORT2 - requirement to produce driving docs). The paperwork doesn't say what the deadline is. Can anyonelet me know? Also, is it ok for me to attend the police station with the form and her documents, or does it have to be her? TIA
