Excessive oil company profits? 1 May 2008 (Forum)
., etc and they are huge companies who employ thousands and pay dividends to shareholders (including my pension fund I hope). And then someone pointed out that the Gov made £25 billion from fuel tax last year (on much lower prices) and would make a nice little bonus on the increased prices this year for doing nothing except collecting the tax - and I wondered - who is ripping off who? Are the oil companies ripping us off? -
Petrol cost Ultra Eco cars, trailers for Holidays 20 Apr 2008 (Forum)
what`s the alternative for the economy minded motorist as fuel prices continue to rise? Very efficient cars based on `need` and not `want`, such as the upcoming VW UP, said to due 94MPG? You could get a family into that size of car as was done decades ago when the car was full of people and luggage on the roof, or trailer. -
KIA Sorento SUV (2003 - 2009) - 04 2.5 diesel accelerator failiure 20 Mar 2008 (Forum)
The car is over 4 years old, has less than 40k on the clock, has been serviced at proper intervals ( two new fuel filters have been fitted by the dealer - just in case!). The Manufacturers Customer Services won't speak/respond to me ( am told to phone the dealer). Any similar situations been experienced. Any suggestions I can make to the dealer about finding/fixing the problem. -
Vauxhall Corsa C (2000 - 2006) - 2003 1.7D intermittent loss of gauges & indicators 7 Mar 2008 (Forum)
Friend has recently acquired ex RAF vehicle (a van with 15,000 mls) at auction, which on way home lost speedometer, fuel and water temp gauges, as well as the indicators. Got home OK with these symptoms, and parked up. Next day, fine all working, no problems. Got oil changed the next day by third party, vehicle behaved itself. -
Volkswagen Passat (2001 - 2005) - '03, 1.9 PD TDi - low mpg 19 Feb 2008 (Forum)
The figures have since dropped to high 30s to a max of about 47mpg (taking it really easy) but I've not noticed a change in performance. I have changed the fuel filter, air filter and pollen filter for non oem parts but all are Mann products (parts were previously oem). I was also using synthetic oil (left over from when it was on a long service interval) and have since changed to semi-synthetic (fixed service interval) - correct VW spec. -
Euro 4 & Diesel cars 3 Feb 2008 (Forum)
They may now even cost more to run that equivalent petrols. " Personally I love diesel cars, but I can't believ what is happening, EU legislation is trying to cut emissions, but, reduced economy means we actual burn more fuel??? I just dont get it anymore. I am concerned about all the 'failures' of common rail diesels, I've been reading message and Screwloose is very knowledgable on this matter and voiced his concerns over the high failure rate of various models, lets hope that its because the technology needs to be refined and once again we'll be back to rock hard econmical diesel cars again. lets assume that common rail is acutal flawed for diesel cars, so when they go wrong just think of the enviornmental effect this has, in as much as the number of parts that are required to fix the car, and thus there individual manufacturing enviornmental effects, or the effects on the environment of actually scrapping a good car, all this for what, so we can cut co2 emissions by a few lbs or whatever it is measured in. -
Ford Mondeo III (2000 - 2007) - 2004 130 TDi - Petrol in Diesel Car HELP 20 Jan 2008 (Forum)
The other option is to discnnect the line someshere there is a clip underneath (yes i have just beenunderneat, neigbors think i am mad!) as the pipe comes out of the fuel tank I think, does this come apart? I could disconnect at the injector and run pump but think I will damage the pump. Or could there simply be a drain plug (i doubt it these days but have a little hope) Any thoughts, advice welcome about the car, the wife, well i have to use her car tomorrow! -
Rover Metro (1990 - 1995) - 1994? 1.1k series - rough running after HG change. 17 Jan 2008 (Forum)
I think the problem is due to something that was disturbed when the head came off that wasn't put back properly - any ideas what? I am not ruling out stale fuel because it's had the same unleaded in it for over 9 months ever since he bought the car. He should take it to a garage, but he's too lazy to. He spent a good few bob getting it fixed and through its MoT yet does not drive it because of its rough running. -
Volkswagen Golf III (1992 - 1997) - Overfueling 1993 1800cc petrol 25 Nov 2007 (Forum)
Hi All, Can anyone point me in the right direction on this one? I had a breakdown due to overfueling on my1781cc mono point injection mkIII. (fuel pouring down the inlet) I changed the throttle body and SPI unit (a spare off a scrapped one I have thank goodness), which ran ok until it got hot when the same happened which lead me to realise the cause of the overfueling was actually a temp sender that was sending the wrong info to unit and hence causing the overfuel. -
Ford Mondeo III (2000 - 2007) - 52 reg TDCi - Warning Light Problem! 2 Oct 2007 (Forum)
Its driving me mad as its costing to run the diagnostic every time - so surely there must be something wrong with it - I've had it 2 years and its happened about 6 times - but this time its happened twice in 2 weeks and Im running out of patience. Fuel consumption is fine, runnings good so why does it keep doing this??? Im going to be selling it soon - not cos of this but cos I've just got a new company car (Focus Ghia 2.0 petrol - now I know why everyone goes on about the "handling" - nice but it doesn't half take time to accelerate - certainly missing my TDCi on slip roads!!! -

Life after Subaru 8 Aug 2007 (Forum)
After owning 3 (or maybe 4) 2.0 Legacy estates I really need something with a bit more ooomph, but given my circumstances cannot afford to fuel the turbo Forester. Having carefully read several recent posts, the Legacy 2.5 '03 on seems to be the one to go for, but again looks beyond my budget. I honestly don't want to go back to work just yet! -
'91 Peugeot 205 Gti Starting issue 22 Jul 2007 (Forum)
I even went to the hassle of rocking the car in gear and bump starting it in case the starter had jammed but it made no difference. I have water, oil and fuel and non of them are in the wrong holes, i can't see what else it may be? Any help would be brilliant, i want it finished!!! Cheers - Mike -
Amusing experience at dealers 7 Jun 2007 (Forum)
West Midlands IS the County.... He went to enter my reg number wrong and thus thought I drove a bio-fuel SRi. Forgot my first name - it only has 3 letters. Entered my surname wrong. Had to consult a colleague when the computer didn't recognise my address (who did actually have a working brain and remembered me from when I purchased there last time - fair play). -
Corolla vibration 30 May 2007 (Forum)
It is much less noticeable when the engine is cold and it flew through the emissions test with flying colours at the MoT. Performance and fuel consumption are good (although the best torque is found much lower in the rev range than I would have expected from a 16valve Toyota). The best way I can describe the sound is that it?s like a sheet of thick plastic which is picking up a resonance. -
Recommendations please: 325d v 330d 21 May 2007 (Forum)
I haven't tried these yet but could have a 325d or 330d Touring in manual form - the premimum for the 330d is not much and there is little penalty tax or fuel wise. but I have read the 325d engine is smoother - any views from those living with them? I could also have a 525d manual but that would mean saloon only... -
What new car for £8-9k? 19 May 2007 (Forum)
I tried Kia Picanto but didn't like it. New Nissan Micra is also very odd shaped. My first and foremost concern is RELIABILITY and good fuel economy. I don't bother much about image. And the car must have height adjustable driver's seat (because my height is short), AC, PAS and 5 doors must. Central locking, electric windows, ABS - I can live without them. -
Chinese Citroen ZX problem... 12 Mar 2007 (Forum)
This device, whatever it is, has had to be cleaned twice in the past year. The car has suffered poor fuel economy, and when the dealer has connected up the diagnostic machine, this thing has been instantly pinpointed as the culprit. The solution has been to remove the device and clean it in solvent, after which it has worked fine until it clags up again. -
Zafira diesel engine doesn't like a run 27 Feb 2007 (Forum)
I have posted on here several times with the same problem and have received some good advice, but I am now struggling with what to do next !!!!! Basically I have a 2004 2.0 DTi Zafira, I have always been concerned about the fuel consumption figures compared to the Vauxhall stated 35mpg urban and 53mpg extra urban, this has been confirmed by the vauxhall dealership (they managed 41MPG on a run of 100 miles at 58-60mph) due to this they agreed with me and have had the vehicle in about 10 times and changed about 10 different things, this has had no effect. -
Electric Parking Brakesn- Devils Work? 30 Nov 2006 (Forum)
The experience has left me very worried about future trends - it seems to me that more new cars are being fitted with these infernal devices. Besides being horrid to use they must drain the battery (which damages fuel economy as the alternator is loaded by the recharging) In my view they not only make driving less safe, but will have serious effects in a few years time on older cards when they begin to fail. A broken handbrake wire is easy and cheap to fix, but a worn out electric servo will be highly expensive I imagine, and will only hasten the point at which vehicles become uneconomic to repair.
