  However, the number of new electric cars priced under £35,000 has increased by almost 50 per cent since 2019 and more than half the models currently on the market will still be eligible for the grant, including cars such as the MG ZS EV , Nissan Leaf and Volkswagen ID.3   The changes to the plug-in car grant come just over a year since the last round of changes, when the grant was reduced from £3500 to £3000 .  The number of new electric cars sold in the UK grew by 344 per cent in 2020, with 21,914 cars registered.

  .  That might not sound a huge amount, but thanks to the Chrysler’s relatively light weight, it was faster from 0-60mph than a Volkswagen Golf GTi, with a top speed in excess of 130mph.  It sounded quite fruity, too, with Chrysler’s performance team equipping it with twin stainless steel exhaust pipes and a sports silencer, which sat rather incongruously with its plain and rather uninspiring cabin, though it did at least get leather sports seats and a stitched leather gear knob.

  Ultra-fast electric car chargers to be installed at petrol stations 7 Jun 2019 (News)
  The latest generation of electric cars are capable of being charged quicker. The Jaguar i-Pace can take 100kW, while the Audi e-tron can handle 150kW. The upcoming Volkswagen ID.3 will be able to charge at a rate of up to 125kW. BP Chargemaster's ultra-fast chargers (dubbed the Ultracharge 150) will be able to moderate the speed of charging to suit the vehicle - so cars unable of handling 150kW will be able to be charged at their maximum rate.

  This year sees the 60th anniversary of LEGO, enjoyed by children and adults all over the world. With vehicles such as the Mini Cooper, Ferrari F50 and Volkswagen Beetle immortalised in the famous plastic brick, and new vehicles being released in the future, it is hoped to have some of them on display. There are also plans to extend the theme into the various show feature areas including the Restoration Theatre, Discovery Live Stage, and Sporting Bears’ Dream Rides Garage.

  Its estimate is £10,000-£12,000. Also going under the hammer is a Volkswagen Golf GTi complete with a rare factory-fitted Votex body kit. A multi show-winning car with an extensive history and just 44,000 miles on the odometer, the car is estimated to sell for between £7000 and £9000.

  Silver saw the biggest decline, with 25 per cent less registered since its prime in 2004. The silver Volkswagen Golf was so popular in its heyday that it led to an urban myth that the Wolfsburg factory had two paint lines - one for the silver cars and another for the rest. It would seem as though the roads are now filled with monotonous monochrome cars compared to the days when colours like canary yellow (like this Austin Princess above), graphite nightmist and desert coral could be found on every British street.

  It's clearly been used by someone who actually drives it, as there are a number of modifications - but the seller says it can all go back to standard. He says, ' the front seats have been replaced with Volkswagen Golf VR6 items, but I have the originals, and it also has a  13in Mountney steering wheel because I just didn't feel comfortable with the original.  The only other change is that it had been fitted with Dolomite wheels, which take a 175/70R13 tyres .'

  Dashcam Catches Red Light Crash 6 Feb 2014 (News)
  Once again a Smartwitness in car camera caught the moment another driver jumped a red light and smashed into the side of a £30,000 VW Tiguan, launching it into a spin and causing £5,000 of damage. The silver Skoda Octavia smashed straight into John Brown's £30,000 Volkswagen Tiguan, shunting it 90-degrees to the side. Luckily, John had fitted a SmartWitness accident camera to his VW and the entire collision was caught on camera. Police were quickly called to the crash scene and when told about the SmartWitness  in-car camera requested that a copy of the video recording be produced as evidence.

The auction also features a 1927 Rolls-Royce Phantom I Playboy Roadster, first owned by Tom Mix, the biggest cowboy star of the silent era, who had the car modified and updated.
