  • Citroen C3 - Downsizing (we think) to a citroen 9 Jan 2018 (Forum)
£5700 Citroen DS3 1.6 diesel (2010 - 73,000 miles) 3 door. £5000 Bearing in mind we have a car seat for our 4 year old and bearing in mind the 4 miles round trip which would you go for? It's just the two of them 99% of the time as I commute on the train. Would that diesel engine have problems with only being run on short town journies?
  • Automatic petrol with a bit of panache and flair 28 Aug 2017 (Forum)
Why are the general masses endeared by diesel cars?  I do about 5-6000 miles a year and irregular journeys of about 15 miles there and back to work place three days a week.  A diesel will just not cut it. I would like a petrol engined car, an automatic, with a bit of pizzazz.
  • MPV for up to £5,500.00 - what do you recommend? 29 Jun 2017 (Forum)
What do you recommend?  I will have about £5,500.00 to spend. One quick thing - my car before the Volvo was an old 1996 Merc C200, which I adored (still best car I have ever driven).  It was an automatic and I had if for a good ten years or so.  Because of this, I really missed driving a manual.
  • VW Polo - PCP-to renew or not to renew? 18 Jan 2017 (Forum)
in 2014 he got free insurance for a full year, a couple of free services and a very good trade in ( £1500!) for an old Rover that's book price was only around £600. Wow! His current Polo-an automatic- has only done around 14,000 miles and is (currently!) trouble free. There are a few nasty mini parking scrapes and blemishes on the bodywork, but the car is washed regularly and clean inside(non smoker).
  • Pug 307 2.0l 110bhp "01 - Hdi 2.0l not starting air in fuel lines 14 Nov 2016 (Forum)
So my old car 110k the other day she just lost power and died. wouldn't start up again. its been gradually getting worse at starting in the morning. It now will only start if i pump the fuel 'grenade' pump untill its hard and even then it will only run for a few seconds. there is a lot of air in the fuel lines to the fuel filter from the 'grenade' and also to the fuel pump from the fuel filter there is air. iv tried loosing the injectors and bleeding some fuel through and tightening them but no luck.
  • Mazda CX7 - Complete engine failure - Happy new year - NOT 17 Jun 2016 (Forum)
At this stage the car is just less than 4 years old (and 11 months out of its manufacturer’s warranty). I do however feel than it is not unreasonable to expect a £28,000 car (when new) to last for more than 4 years especially when it has been maintained fully in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions by a franchised dealer.
  • Honda Civic 2001-2005 (52 plate) 1.4 petro manual - Gearbox/bearing problem - is she dead? 13 Sep 2015 (Forum)
Hi everyone,   I desperately need help/advice with my Civic. I am broke and don't want to scrap a car that I might be able to keep going a little longer!   My cheap old 2003 Civic 1.4 petrol has 170K on the clock and has served me well. I would like to keep it on the road if possible for another year or so as we have two young kids and are properly broke!
  • Jaguar XF - Review - 3.0D 22 May 2015 (Forum)
I was lucky enough to get a new car almost 3 weeks ago - a beautiful Jaguar XF 3.0D Premium Luxury. I had an S Type a few years back but the XF is nothing like the Jags of old.  This is pure class and modern technology which actually works.
  • Mazda 6 - Engine cutting out when cold then running cold 24 Mar 2015 (Forum)
In stop/start town driving it gets a bit warmer, but still not quite up to the halfway mark on the gauge. The car had a new battery a couple of moths ago, but other than that no other changes. I've only noticed this behaviour since the new battery, it started immediately the battery was changed. The old battery had gone totally flat.
  • 2003 Chrysler Voyager - Reco Engine in Voyager Misfires - ECU issue? 7 Jan 2014 (Forum)
It seems to be a timing issue. Suspecting it might be an incompatibility issue between the new engine and my old ECU, I contacted the engine supplier and he sent me the ECU from the car that the replacement engine came from. The ECU that he sent me was very different from the one in my car. Looking up the part number I have determined that the replacement ECU (and therefore the replacement engine) is from a Dodge Caravan, not a Voyager.
  • Ford Zetec. 3 door. Petrol 2004 reg. - Annual servicing by Ford 11 Apr 2013 (Forum)
. Any comments?  I have tried other ford franchises in Nottingham. NB: The car is now 8 years old but performs very well, hence my keeping it.  (Not to mention that it is a better fit in my single garage than the larger bodied versions of the same make and model and later year).
  • Volkswagen Golf III - No compression @ cyl1 & 4 after wp/cambelt change 2 Feb 2013 (Forum)
Totally clueless after a waterpump and cambelt replacement, Mechanically done after all the possible rules and regulations. The car is a Golf MK3 1.6 ABU engine (year:93) What we have done: Drove the (working and functiong) car into the garage and turned it of. Aligned the markings on the camshaft and crankshaft.
  • Mitsubishi Outlander - Moving to Switzerland - Mitsubishi Outlander CVT 22 Oct 2012 (Forum)
Hi All. We'll soon be moving to Switzerland, which means giving up our UK cars and buying a 4x4 on winter tyres (we'll be living at 1km altitude, so this is necessary apparently). My wife has an auto only ilcense and we have 2 young children to accommodate in stage 1 & 2 rear-facing car seats.
  • Ford Mondeo TDCI - Turbo & EGR Valve 21 Aug 2012 (Forum)
Ive just had a Turbo fitted onto my 2003 Ford Mondeo TDCi Estate 115bhp....I had the injectors refurbished about 8 weeks ago and hat was a superb job done, I was well pleased. Then the car started to blow more black smoke than normal for a car of that age and 131000 miles on the clock. I was told it was the Turbo, so bought one and had it fitted yesterday (Friday 17th August) It was out of a 2004 TDCi and the mechanic said in great condition, how long does it take for all the old crud in the system to blow out?
  • Mazda 3 - Mazda 3 Transmission fault after 25000 miles 14 Jul 2012 (Forum)
At the third anniversary service the dealerships advised me that there was a noise coming from the gearbox. When questioned they could not be any more specific only saying that they needed the car in the garage for at least a week to remove the gearbox and investigate further and the cost would likely run into thousands. Is a con-incidence that the warranty expired at it 3 years old!! Mazda UK have offered to pay 75% of the cost but could not give me any idea how long or even an estimate on the cost.
  • ford fiesta 1.2 petrol 2011 - Under bonnet explosion/loud bang 29 Feb 2012 (Forum)
Called Ford who said call this no>>> it was the AA (working for them on breakdowns) Fiesta is 6 m old and 7K on clock - no issues. Callled AA and he checked then started the car ok albeit sounded alittle hesitant, AA said could be too much fuel due to a short start and stop on drive etc and then left???

  • Rover 420GSi - Rover 420 - 'rough' running 15 May 2011 (Forum)
I have a 2-litre petrol Rover 420GSI, 12 years old, done 46500 miles. For last few months car only used once or twice a week for fairly short journeys.   Suddenly the engine has started running 'rough' intermittently when accelerating.
  • Ford Fiesta mk3 - Just bought 1993 Fiesta 1.1 for £350. Servicing? 10 Apr 2011 (Forum)
I'll get hold of a haynes manual asap, but I just wonder what I should be keenly listening out for? Compared to the old mk2 1.1 I recently scrapped, this car feels great. Drives really nice. Pristine inside. Sills starting to rust, but hopefully that will just mean a few cheap plates to weld before the MOT in Jan. It's even taxed until Aug.
  • Skoda Yeti - Skoda Yeti - time to move it on 6 Apr 2011 (Forum)
When you have a car like this one that needs constant visits to the dealer a two hour round trip starts to grate and costs my company real money. I've already offered the car to a few dealers but nothing bordering on a sensible offer so far - misguidedly I thought this would be easy to sell given the waiting lists that apparently exist.
