  Car design awards see BMW, Fiat win 11 Mar 2008 (News)
  The company gave the Car Design of the Year 2007 prize for production to Fiat for its Fiat 500 model, with the Maserati Gran Turismo and Audi A5 vehicles coming second and third respectively. It also handed a gong to the BMW Concept CS, which it named Car Design of the Year 2007 for a concept automobile, coming ahead of the Mazda Taiki and Citroen C-Cactus.

  "[It] confirms that the course of growth our brand has taken is both a vigorous and a sustained one. 2007 is the third consecutive year in which we have achieved a double-digit global growth in sales," said the official.   Volvo has issued official photos of its new V50 model, which follows the January launch of its excellent new S40 by a couple of months. Like the S40, it's great looking and a very strong competitor to the Audi A4 Avant, BMW 3 Series Touring and Mercedes C Class estate. It's actually fractionally shorter than the old V40, slightly taller and 54mm wider. Engines will include a 125bhp 1.8 four, the new Ford/PSA 136bhp 2.0 litre common rail direct injected diesel, and 2.4 litre fives with either 170bhp or 220bhp.

  Another shining example of the money paid today was no less than £5,225 for an admittedly spotless 34k mile 2004/53 Mondeo 2.5V6 Ghia X auto. Audi A4 B7s were very strong. While Octavia diesels hung on to their values as grimly as they always do. But the big stuff is dropping. Lowlights today were a 34k mile 3-year-old Audi TT 3.2DSG sold for £15,500, so that’s 50% depreciation in 3 years.

  The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) alleges that four-cylinder diesel engines manufacturered by Volkswagen and Audi emit up to 40 times more pollution than they officially state. The cars - produced from 2008 - use a ‘defeat device’ to detect when it is undergoing an official emissions test to turn on full emissions controls, improving the cars’ NOx emissions.
