Citroen C3 opinion 28 Jul 2005 (Forum)
I love: The high seating position The nice big buttons The intuitive controls The looks I like: The boot, which is fairly big given the size of the car The fuel economy, which at 37mpg around town is OK. A diesel C3 would have been at least £1,000 more expensive. I'm less pleased with: The gearstick, which is too low The fact that you select settings e.g. black panel with lights on and it resets itself. -
Problems with Rover 75 6 Jun 2005 (Forum)
Would this be the timing chain or something else less serious...Rover dealer did say it could be a fuel issue as they havent heard of chains needing replacing and its had 5K oil changes. Car is 1999 Diesel with 210,000 on the clock! Any ideas would be great! -
Bargain big saloon advice please 24 May 2005 (Forum)
My budget is only £500 to £1,000 and I want something comfortable, reliable and pleasant to drive. Because of my low mileage, fuel economy isn't so important. So I've narrowed my choice down to either a Toyota Camry 2.2 or V6 from around 1992 to 1994, or a Saab 9000 2.0 or 2.3 ecopower from the same period. I've seen sub-100k mileage, FSH examples of both of these in my price range - and studied the breakdown on this excellent site - but are there any other options I should consider? -
Fiesta stalling 14 May 2005 (Forum)
My inclination was that it was flooded, for no good reason. Where should I start to poke around? I think it's on the fuel side rather than electrical catastrophe, although quality of spark might be a factor I suppose. I haven't looked at anything yet. I took it for a run last weekend and it seemed to run fine to me. -
95 1.8 Diesel Fiesta bad starting 18 Mar 2005 (Forum)
The old old ones did'nt look that bad at all. For reference so far this year the car has had oil and filter change, new air and fuel filter and has 87000 miles on the clock. I have checked all the fuses under the steering wheel and they are all fine. I suspect maybe the glowplug relay is falty. Any idea where the relay is located and how to test for this? -
Ahead of their time 6 Jan 2005 (Forum)
My list: Bentley R-Type Continental - 120 mph cruising in a World used to 60. Mercedes 300 SL - Possibly the World's first supercar. First car to have fuel injection as standard. Maclaren F1 - could anyone imagine that a supercar could be so much quicker than any of the previous supercars? Jaguar XJ6 series one - Better than any other car of it's time in all areas except build quality and space. -
Lane Hogging on the M25 24 Dec 2004 (Forum)
If you try to follow the Police advice and move into the left lane when it is clear ahead you rapidly come up behind a truck or other slow mover and then other drivers in the middle lane wont let you back out! Most of the time you end up braking and using far more fuel. I have tried staying in the middle lane but then you end up undertaking slower traffic in the fast lane. I think we should use the US system Find a lane and stick to it undertaking is legal and the whole system just works better! -
Dual occupancy lane 17 Oct 2004 (Forum)
Why should I have to sit in a slow moving traffic queue because I do not know anyone who fits the above criteria when a bloke in the next village who has a neighbour who works in the same factory can cruise past missing the queue. Vat on a new car, tax on fuel, road fund licence, company car tax (for some), tax on insurance, parking permits, tolls etc etc, how much more is the innocent motorist going to be percecuted. Outrageous. -
Sensible Mods 5 Oct 2004 (Forum)
My (somewhat dated) thoughts for good modifications are; 1) Replacing contact breaker points by an electronic system 2) Replacing Ford VV carbs by the equivalent Webber 3) Replacing some Ford auto chokes with manual chokes 4) Fitting duplex timing chains to A series engines 5) Updating A series SU carburrettors to 1 3/4" MG Metro spec 6) Replacing dynamos with alternators 7) Changing positive earth cars to negative 8) Fitting (noisy!) steel timing gears to Ford Essex engines 9) Fitting electronic versions of SU electric fuel pumps 10) Fitting electric fans instead of direct engine driven ones What are the modern equivalents? number_cruncher -
Madness or sanity? 8 Aug 2004 (Forum)
Can't help thinking the amount of depreciation of the diesels will outweigh the savings to be made on fuel. The more I think of it the more sense the 944 starts to make or am I being stupid? If anyone can point out any flaws in my logic then please let me know before I take the plunge. -
Audi TDI 110 Decline 9 Jun 2004 (Forum)
I run a 97 A4 1.9 TDi SE 110.I purchased the car approx 3 years ago,its mileage was 96k.Its given sterling service with plenty of poke and superb economy since. However in the past few weeks I have noticed the car to be well down on power and torque to what it once was.The mileage is now 165k and since I have owned the car it has had 5k synthetic oil changes and doesn`t use any oil to this date.It also has regular air filter replacement the last one just days ago.It has had regular use of diesel power plus fuel addative and regular italian tune ups. There does however seem to be the beginnings of an oil leak at the front of the engine in the area of the camshaft end/rocker cover and the car has become a bit smokey of late. The question is what could be the cause of the recent decline in performance? -
Extended Services/Tuning Boxes 1 Jun 2004 (Forum)
Is there any wonder that buyers of ex fleet and many privately owned turbo diesels run into turbo and fuel pump problems at less than 50k miles on the used car market, and then get an adverse opinion of the vehicle as a result of abuse by the previous owner/driver.??? After visiting BMW forums for some years, it is now common practice for most turbo diesels to run 17k to 20k before oil changes, which (Like H.J.) -
V8 Discovery LPG conversion 29 May 2004 (Forum)
(The tank on the left was actually rubbing against the suspension arms!) and the pipework from the filler fixed in the area of the fuel filter so as to effectively prevent the filter from being changed without removing the pipework. The wiring was ghastly with long unsupported runs. All this for £1300, customer off to trading standards! -

Renault Clio juddering 12 Jan 2004 (Forum)
My daughter has a 1992 1.4RT with single point fuel injection. It has done 150,000 miles and will be replaced in 2 months. She now lives away from home so all descriptions are verbal. She says that the car is juddering as it is driven and almost stalls when slowing down. -
Another use for a C5 22 Oct 2003 (Forum)
However, only the Citroen C5 offered the combination of load space, low cost of operation, comfort and an easily-adjustable load deck height. In service, these cars have proved to be very fuel-efficient and their two-man crews find them ideal for the purpose.' During their four-year life with Co-operative Funeralcare, the C5 estates will cover up to 140,000 miles. -
Youth Organisations & Car Insurance 2 Oct 2003 (Forum)
f=2&t=13384) which is similar I guess, but this situation is slightly different. At the moment I am a civilian instructor and as such I will only receive fuel expenses and no other pay. However, if I go into uniform as a reservist (training branch), then I wouldnt exactly receive a wage, but there are bounties paid for duties carried out. Is that classed as for hire & reward? -

Mondeo Cambelt & LPG MoT & adverts 30 Jul 2003 (Forum)
I have a few questions following it that I would really appreciate some guidance on. What should be changed along with the cambelt? Any tensioners, pulleys etc? What fuel should the car be emmisions tested on? Its registered as petrol (too early to be taxed as LPG). Previous years its been Petrol, this year LPG, with the certificate saying LPG? Is this anygood to me, should Plod request to see my docs? -
Audi 80 TDi-electronic probs 19 Jul 2003 (Forum)
Typically, when I was away she decided to rev to 2100rpm and then cough and splutter like she wasn't getting enough fuel (I had to drive from devon to Reading at 55mph!) The car is fine when revved up not under load, but just looses all power after 2100rpm when driving - this happens in all gears. a local garage has had a look and say it's definitely an electronic problem. i am taking her to Audi tomorrow which will no doubt cost me a small fortune.
