MINI is hoping that the new Clubman will rival the Volkswagen Golf.   The engine line-up remains unchanged, which means buyers get two three-cylinder engines to choose from, with the 0.9-litre engine offering 90PS while the 1.0-litre unit will provide 71PS. A five-speed manual will be fitted as standard although a new dual-clutch six-speed automatic 'box is also available. Smart hasn’t said if the 260-litre boot will be diminished by the folding roof, but it’s safe to assume that it will be smaller with the roof rails taking up valuable space.

It’s not clear which of this is standard, as yet. The engine lineup comprises, at first at least, four petrol and two diesel units, with the petrol lot starting at a 1.6-litre C 180 with 156PS and ending with the 245PS C 300 2.0-litre unit.

  Grampian Police needed a high-speed patrol car to deal with this problem and they ordered a special Vitesse for the job: C356 YST. Most police SD1s were automatics but the Grampian force commissioned a police specification manual, stripped of the luxuries usually fitted such as electric-windows, electric-sunroof, central-locking and air-conditioning; partly to minimise cost and weight but also to simplify the car and thus improve reliability.  After leaving the force, it was put into storage before being recomissioned by Glenister's on screen partner,  Ant Anstead of Evanta Motors.

  Diesel Particulate Filters to be Tested in MoT from February 6 Dec 2013 (News)
  Now VOSA has announced that garages and testing stations will be required check for a diesel particulate filter (DPF) in the inspection of the exhaust system as part of the MoT test (or annual test for heavy vehicles) from February 2014. The vehicle will automatically fail the MoT test if a DPF was originally fitted as standard but is found to be no longer present. (Obviously if no DPF was ever fitted in the case of EUIII and many EUIV vehicles, the vehicle will not fail for not having one.)

It is 16% lighter.   The automatic feels like a manual with faster gearchanges and a 4% - 7% improvement in economy.   Skyactiv bodies   The average weight reduction of Skyactiv bodies will be 100kg (more than the weight of the average man), though the use of 60% rather than 40% high tensile steel in the body construction.
