Audi A6 Avant (2005 - ) - 05 2.7 Water leak taking out electrics 30 Jan 2009 (Forum)
Dealer mumbled about possible water ingress through "plenun chamber" Dealer is going to ask Audi UK for a goodwill gesture - but I don't hold out much hope. Interestingly my extended warranty (with Tesco's) doesn't cover water damage. Neither does Audi's for that matter. Is this a known fault, and surely Audi must take some responsibility for such a leak on a supposed quality car with only 30K on the clock? I would be interested in other peoples' experience so I know how hard to fight with Audi. -
PCV licence requirements 16 Dec 2008 (Forum)
I passed my test back in 196? My licence dates back to 1977. It's a green paper (D33 Rev May/77) variety covering me to drive groups A, D, E. I wasn't carrying any passengers, but I was being paid. Does that mean I was being hired or rewarded? What's my legal position? -
Ford Mondeo III (2000 - 2007) - 03 2.0tcdi - 4 injectors failed at 99K miles 8 Oct 2008 (Forum)
Main Ford dealer tells me that all 4 injectors on 2003 2.0 Tcdi need to be replaced. Car has covered only 99K miles - surely all 4 injectors shouldn't need replacing ? Ford main dealer has already replaced one injector at cost of £400 + after diagnostic check - now one week later - with original poor running and smoking not fixed - is claiming remaining 3 need to be replaced at additional cost of £850. -
Zurich Insurance and M&S vouchers 10 Sep 2008 (Forum)
Last August, 2007, prior to wife's car insurance expiring I searched via Confused.com and was offered a quote from Zurich, good cover, cheaper than her renewal and £50 in M&S vouchers, a good deal. This year I searched via Confused.com again and was again offered a Zurich quote and it was for less than the Zurich renewal and again offered £50 in M&S vouchers. -
SEAT Ibiza III (2002 - 2008) - Brake fluid change not in service contract? 7 Aug 2008 (Forum)
Daughter's 4yr old Ibiza has a 2 yr service plan arranged with local SEAT dealer, to cover it's 4th and 5th year services and MOT. So I took it today as she's away on holiday (otherwise hard to wrestle the car off her). Ended up having a fairly heated discussion with the service manager as they wouldn't do the 2 yearly brake fluid change unless I paid for it. -
Ford Focus (1998 - 2004) - 1999 1.8 Timing belt concern ! 6 Aug 2008 (Forum)
I know from various sources how bad it is to get engine oil etc onto the timing belt and tensioner etc, e.g. from the Hayne's manual and various internet articles. On the one hand the thought haunts me that there could be oil on my timing belt from a rocker cover gasket oil leak and so this could reduce the life of the belt or if it slipped on the idler pulley could cause great engine damage. On the other hand I think about all the car/vehicles on the road today that have timing belts and especially the older ones which are probably contaminated with oil etc from leaks of one kind or another but they don't seem to worry about the financial consequences of a belt failure. -
Citroen Xsara (1997 - 2004) - 01 2.0hdi What to check before a remap? 6 Jul 2008 (Forum)
Recently flied through its MOT... mind you, had a bit done to it beforehand! Have already paid the extra for the insurance, so covered as soon as I get remapped. Anything else I should check before taking this for a remap next Saturday? Thanks in advance -
Vauxhall Corsa D (2006 - ) - Unwanted Bleeping Hand Brake on a new Corsa 27 Oct 2007 (Forum)
One whistle that I just can't quite come to terms with however, is the 'ding' that accompanies applying the handbrake. It's driving SWMBO mad and the handbook just doesn't seem to cover it. It appears to go off when the car is on even a slight gradient which makes me think it's a warning to apply the handbrake fully to avoid rolling back/forward. I just can't turn it off and daughter's driving instructor wants it shut down for her taking her driving test next week. -
Audi 80 Mk II (1991-1995) - Smoking VAG TDI engine 18 Oct 2007 (Forum)
My Audi 80TDI has suddenly started smoking when the engine is ticking over after a run. The car has covered 120K mostly local miles and has a full VW service history. My VW specialist has treated the engine with injector cleaner and recommended a long run to clear the exhaust out. But after changing the air filter which involved disconnecting the pipe to the EGR valve I noticed clouds of smoke intially out of the exhaust on tick over. -
Crash Scene Investigation 30 Aug 2007 (Forum)
Not a bad programme from the ITV stable, spoilt by three ad breaks and a lengthy 'still to come...' section at the end of each part, so an hour becomes about 40 minutes of programme meaning too little time to cover 2 incidents properly. One crash was on Torquay front - 72 in a 30 resulting in car hitting a tree and seriously injuring a passenger, second was on A38, out of control flipping over killing 17 year old passenger. -
VW mk2 1L Polo and a Pierburg 1b3 9 Dec 2006 (Forum)
right. mk2 1043cc polo with 1b3 on it. over 2 weeks, was getting a little harder to cold start. then on one night of warm engine drive, it kepts stuttering as if it had run out of fuel, then recovering itself again.(has a new filter b4 that happened) limped home. looked in morning and it failed to fire. took cover off airbox and found fuel spurting up out of carb top. conemmed carb. got another off a scrapper and that fixed car for 6 months. Then, same again happened. Got another carb and again it runs. but still got the faulty one. -
Performance driving courses 18 Mar 2006 (Forum)
I am not really interested in the usual track day have a go sessions / corporate fun days. I am really looking for a targeted session in road legal cars covering high speed driving and associated risks such as aquaplaning. Were is Paul Ripley these days? I seem to remember a TV show he appeared on a few years ago, He was at an impressive facility with a long water trough where he was doing an aquaplane exercise in a VW Golf. -
Vauxhall Network Q Warranty 8 Feb 2006 (Forum)
Whilst the amount to do this is relatively modest in my circumstances, I am wondering whether or not any people have had any reason to claim under this warrranty and if so, were the faults covered and importantly, were you happy with the service? I don't wish to shell out for this if there is the potential for Network Q to 'duck out' of any claims. The car does come with a 2nd and 3rd year dealer warranty anyway. -
Toyota Yaris Warranty??? 21 Dec 2005 (Forum)
Hi, I hope someone out there knows the answer to this! I have seen a Yaris 1.4D4D that I like at a car supermarket, a 54 reg with 9,500 miles on the clock but no stamps in the service record. The price seems ok, but not if I have to buy my own warranty... When I phoned up, the sales lady said she thought it would still be covered by the maunfacturer warranty but I would have to check with Toyota. -
Grand Cherokee 2.7d 2004 / 18K Oil prob' 29 Sep 2005 (Forum)
- they haven't done a full diagnostic but tell me they can't see any. Incredibly they tell me it's not covered on warranty! Are they trying it on do you think? surely it doesnt need a complete new engine - what about a short block or just replacing the crank shaft? Either way - I'm not paying - it's their problem not mine. -
VW Servicing 1 Sep 2005 (Forum)
Dear backroom Servicing time for Mrs Doubledime's Golf. It has covered 25,000 miles in five years. We have owned it since new. The main dealer serviced it for the first three years. Last year a local non VW independent garage serviced the car and changed the cam belt. -
How to obtain CCTV footage for accident? 20 Jun 2005 (Forum)
There is a CCTV covering the accident spot and the road leading upto the accident spot so we are hoping to obtain the CCTV footage as evidence that the other party is at fault. How and where would we be able to obtain this footage? -
Accident, not my fault, should I even te 14 Feb 2005 (Forum)
Hi, Friday night on the motorway a van crashed into the vehicle ahead of him in the fast lane, then swerved into my lane and hit my side. My car doors were quite badly damaged. I've got all his details and that, and I assume it would be his fault and covered by his employer's insurance (he was in a company van). I pay a lot for my insurance as I've only been driving a few months and have a high risk job, and can't really afford to pay any more. -
Renault Megane 1996 water temp gauge 27 Sep 2004 (Forum)
Also, on a related subject, does anyone know whether there is a forum specifically for Renault owners - I've looked at the Renault Owner's club site, but can't see any forums and am not clear whether modern cars like the Megane are included. There also doesn't appear to be any contact details for the club that I could find. I'm reluctant to spend £25 on joining only to find that the members area doesn't have any forums, and the club doesn't cover the Megane. -
Mitsubishi Colt 1.6 16 Sep 2004 (Forum)
Do they perhaps remove the gearbox so they can drain the torque converter? Not in 4 hours they don't. As the car is just out or warranty it will be going to our usual independant for servicing.
