Hi, I hope someone out there knows the answer to this! I have seen a Yaris 1.4D4D that I like at a car supermarket, a 54 reg with 9,500 miles on the clock but no stamps in the service record. The price seems ok, but not if I have to buy my own warranty...
When I phoned up, the sales lady said she thought it would still be covered by the maunfacturer warranty but I would have to check with Toyota.
I phoned the contact number on Toyota's website and the man I spoke to said that he didn't deal with warranty queries and that he would put me through to the warranty department. The lady I spoke to there said she didn't see why not but then as she was ending the call she said I should probably check with Toyota - that's who I thought I was talking to!!!
I just seem to be going round in circles - warranty or not - anyone know???
Merry Christmas either way!

Why not telephone your local Toyota dealer to see what they have on the service computer (linked to Toyota).

I read frequently, but only post when I have something useful to say.

Going round in circles when dealing with a corpoarate?? I don't believe it!!
Your right to check this out and I know this may sound cynical but if you have a biggish warrenty claim, even Toyota who generally have very good customer satisfaction levels, may try to use any excuse to decline. The car is not that old and at 9500 miles shouldn't have reached its 1st service mileage.
For peace of mind and this won't be easy if they say OK - get in writing!
Good luck --- Yaris are good cars.

Wheres Blue Haddock today?
Artful Dodger is spot on. Generally Toyota warranty is good for three years parts and labour.
Go to your local dealer and ask them to check the registration in the computer and advise the warranty cover situation. They should be able to reassure you and point you to the right person to contact in Toyota UK if they cannot help .
It is unlikely that you will have a problem as it is a Toyota but
if you do have a problem it is my experience that Toyota will go out of their way to keep you happy because they want you to come back again and again - its called Customer Service.
SWMBO is on her second Yaris and IMO its a great little car.

On my '03 Yaris D4-D the service interval is 10,000 miles, which would explain why the one you saw didn't have any service stamps in the book. Warranty is 3yr/60K miles, so you should be OK.
An excellent car - mine averages 70mpg or better :-)

SWMBO and daughter both have a Yaris(plural = Yari?)
The Service interval is 10,000 miles OR 12 months whichever is achieved first and that schedule must be adhered to or the Warranty is not valid.
Now if my maths is correct a 54 reg car will be between 10 and 16 months old.(Mar-Sep 2004) So technically it could be out of warranty but with only 9.5k miles I doubt any Toyota main dealer would not honour a warranty claim, provided you book it in for initial service straight away. Check with the dealer first.

That should be 01 Sep 04 to 01 Mar 05.

Thanks for the advice guys - to be honest I didn't know I could ask the local dealer for advice if I was buying it elsewhere, I thought they'd tell me to eff-off!!!
Cheers all & Merry Christmas!

I put the reg in on a website to get an insurance quote and the date of registration came up as 30/09/04 - so although it is not over the 10,000 miles, it is over the 12 months...
I'll phone the dealer like you all suggested, but it feels a bit iffy now...

Just a point.
With the new model being released there are some serious bargains on new(old model)cars - see HJ's Best Deals. A new D4T3 for under £8k for example.

Christmas shopping!
I would not even bat an eye lid about the lack of service - first service is due 10k miles or 12 months whichever comes sooner but it's only an oil and filter change with a couple of other basic bits quickly checked.
My advice would be to buy the car and immediately book it in for the service and everything will be fine.

"SWMBO and daughter both have a Yaris(plural = Yari?)"
It would be Yares if it was a Latin word, but it's almost certainly a made-up word by PR people - so probably stick to Yarises, as in Harrises.
