  • 3 separate rear seats 14 Jan 2008 (Forum)
I am hoping that someone on here can help me. We are looking for an estate car (preferably) to replace our 2004 Ford Galaxy about 2 to 3 years old - budget upto around £10k. As we will be making several long (to Switzerland) trips each year as a family of 5 (3 kids aged 12, 10 and 6) - it is importnant that the back seat has decent legroom, but also that there are 3 separate seats (rather than the middle one being simply a space between the 2 outside seats.

  • Ford - Transit (camper van) derv trouble 21 Dec 2007 (Forum)
Hi, friend of mine has a converted Camper van, I think its over 10 years old and its a derv and auto box. Two questions, he is in North Surrey, any suggestions on a good local derv specialist? Ford seem to struggle with the car, he often has to take it to the bigger dealership a few miles away where they can "plug it in".
  • Ford Galaxy (1995 - 2006) - Cruise control or not? 28 Oct 2007 (Forum)
A search without cruise control returns 200+ Does anyone have any experience driving long distances in the Galaxy and if so, would you say that you can do without cruise control? Is there a better place to look than Autotrader? I need a trader as I want to trade in my old car at the same time. Where on the net can I find a service schedule? Neil
  • Mercedes Benz E-Class W211 (2002 - 2009) - Fragile alloy wheels ! 21 Oct 2007 (Forum)
On th first occasion I simply bought a new wheel from the dealer and accepted that I must have hit something, but now I'm beginning to wonder if the original wheels were defective somehow. The car is just about 4 years old. Has anyone had a similar experience with MBZ alloys ? Thanks.
  • Ford Fiesta (1989 - 1995) - 1995 Quartz 1.1 - sometimes won't start 17 Oct 2007 (Forum)
My Mother-in-law's trusty old Fiesta occasionally refuses to start for no apparent reason. This might be before setting out, or at the shops before going home. After waiting an hour it will restart, and runs perfectly until the next time.
  • Baby seats - Do I need them for a one off trip ? 27 Aug 2007 (Forum)
Hi all, I need to go & pick up 2 people with 2 babies - about 8 old months from gatwick. Knowing nothing about this sort of thing it looks like I need to get 2 extra seats of some sort. Do I really need these for a one off trip ?, I looked on a rospa website that looked confusing but it said a hire vehicle did not need child restraints, so I could hire a car the same as mine & all would be ok Am i just getting myself in trouble for helping out?
  • Vauxhall Corsa C (2000 - 2006) - Network Q worth the extra ? 20 Aug 2007 (Forum)
Hi- 20 year old stepson is thinking of upgrading from worn out S-reg 1.0 Corsa to an neat looking '03 silver 1.2 SXi (16v, alloys, a/c) with 48000 for 4.5k. He's driven it, likes it (especially in comparison to 1.0) and the insurance isn't horrendous, so is quite keen.
  • Ford Focus (1998 - 2004) - 2003 - Key Re-Programming 17 Aug 2007 (Forum)
Will it overwrite the old coding with new? Due to high prices I'm a bit nervous about trying. Thanks for any advice you can give. MikeN

  • New Mondeo Owner's Handbook? 24 Apr 2007 (Forum)
Also, earlier I spent about 20 minutes trying to find the non-existent lever to open the bonnet. I did a search and found out how to open it on this site.... Guess the dealer maybe ran out of old ones - but does this sound feasible or am I being a plank?
  • Land Rover Discovery 15 Jan 2007 (Forum)
It now handles that bad that anything over 40 MPH sees it wandering that badly it feels safe to drive. Car pulls to the left on power and right when coming off power and wanders badly in left or right hand bends. The old front tyres were on the legal limit and might have been masking any suspension/geometry fault but it did handle ( as well as a 4x4 can) Any other ideas as to what could cause this bad handling other than the tyres themselves?
  • Buying a new mini question 20 Jun 2006 (Forum)
I have heard that Mini residuals are quite firm but does anybody know how much the new model will affect this? I have bought all my cars in the past from auction but dont see that many minis come up and am not sure if the price difference will be worth it on a 1-2 year old model against a new one. I had thought about leasing which will cost £200 a month but thought it might be an expensive option over three years.
  • Mercedes E320CDi - losing power 11 Apr 2006 (Forum)
Mother-inLaw's Mercedes E320CDi Auto. Five years old and 8,000 miles. Bought in December. Fully serviced at that time with all fluids changed apart from ATF (or Merc equivalent). Been driving superbly since bought and been up and down the M1/M6 twice in one week.
  • 3k - as powerful as poss & In group 15 27 Mar 2006 (Forum)
My friend Adam at work is a bit of a boy racer and is looking for a car to have some fun in. He's got his heart set on a Renault 5 turbo but I think he could get something more solid & safer for the 3k he has. His criteria is: 3k maximum spend Insurance group no more than 15 Fast & fun I came up with the following, some are closer matches than others: * Old BMW 325 / 328 (e36 shape) * Ricer i.e. 3000GT, GTO, MR2, RX7 (although most too much on insurance) * Mark 1 or 2 Golf GTI Can anyone else help with this very serious problem!!??
  • Astra VXR 10 Feb 2006 (Forum)
A friend of mine has just ordered/bought a new Vauxhaul Astra VXR.I don't know much about Vauxhaul cars so I would welcome any comments about the deal, although its a bit accademic now. Showroom tells him 5 month waiting list and there in demand but just happens to have one in stock that was a cancelled order. This one has special alloys and paint so its £20,000 plus with no discount, and he's offered and accepts £7000 for his immaculate 30 month old,19000 mile Vectra 2.2 SRi which cost him £19000 from the same garage. Is this a reasonable deal,to me this £12000 depreciation (or £400) a month and would be hard to bear,or are these VXR's that good?
  • Which Diesel for 3K? 16 Jan 2006 (Forum)
As I wouldn't consider a common rail diesel for myself, I won't be suggesting that my friend does either, so I am keen to make sure that any recommendation uses old injector pump technology. Thankfully my friend does not have any hint of badge snobbery, and is simply loooking for a good deal, and a reliable car. Any suggestions?
  • Should he be banned? 12 Jan 2006 (Forum)
http://tinyurl.com/7rl8k 21 year old in his car with his mates. Spots a Scamera van on bridge over road. Is doing 20mph (in a 40mph zone) and he takes both hands off the wheel, leans towards the windscreen and gives the van 2 "V" signs.
  • replacement for '04 996 carrera2 cab 31 Aug 2005 (Forum)
I am just surprised at how difficult it is to answer. 'Mr Loaded' has '04 911 carrera 2 cabriolet and needs/wants to replace with a 2+2 open sports car. But what??? has the value of 996 (call it £50k) + £20k thrown in. The only thing I can think of is a Aston DB7 volante (2-3 years old). When it comes to adding 2 seats in the back you are seriously restricted... he doesn't want a Merc CLK (not flash enough) and can't afford a 550 maranello barchetta..tough life eh!
