Still Plenty of P/Xs at Auction 19 Jul 2004 (News)
Boisterous bidding and the promise of some sunshine took an indifferent 51k mile 2000W Merc CLK 320 Elegance convertible all the way to £20,150. Peugeot pop-tops were popular too with £10,75 paid for a 15k mile 02 reg two year old 206CC 1.6S. And though Focus C-Maxes are very good motors, £10,750 provisional for a 3 month old 3,000 miler seemed over the max to me. Still plenty of cheapies, though. Like a 104k 97P Merc E320 Avant Garde for £5,500, a 69k 98R Honda Accord 1.8S for £1,600, a 57k 2000W Mondeo 2.0 Zetec estate for £3,200, a 140k 98R Mondeo 2.0GLX for £800, a super clean 104k mile 93L Carlton 2.0Gli auto for £450, a 91J Granada Scorpio 24v for £100, a 45k mile 89G Rover 216SE auto for £80, and an 82k mile 89G Maestro 1.3 Special with an MOT to December for £25. -

Blog: Drive It Day - how was it for you? 22 Apr 2013 (News)
It's an admirable idea, and one that through the years, I've supported - encouraging anyone who'll listen to get their old, classic, or just plain interesting cars out - and show the world their stuff. This year, I must admit that I took the easy option. I drove around in my Saab 900T16S (above) - which as anyone will know, is as sensible and rational (that is, unless there's something really wrong, it does just work), and despite me being old enough to remember these just being everyday cars, it did attract a lot of positive attention from other drivers. -

Young Drivers Priced Out of Insurance 22 Oct 2004 (News)
Yet these same premium rates are not reflected in the Far East. In Bangkok, for example, an 18 - 20 year old driver driving a new 109PS 1.5 litre £10,000 car pays just £250 a year for comprehensive insurance which returns 90% of the original price of the car in the event of a total loss. It could be that statutory caps on the rates paid out for personal injury and death claims, and a complete overhaul of the ludicrously high rates paid for accident repairs, could reduce the price of insurance to a sensible level that makes it a viable proposition for the many of the 31% of young UK drivers who presently drive uninsured. -
