  • 98, endura E engine , 80 000 miles - Ford Ka, intermittent no power, poor idle 23 Aug 2013 (Forum)
Also worth mentioning, is that this behaviour above, is totally independant of the weather, temperature, rainy / sunny, so I have not replaced the spark plug cables or the coil (since if these are bad, it's ofter worse whan damp weather). Changed spark plugs, fuel filter, looking for cracks in air hoses (visually, and with start spray). Added a bottle of injection cleener in the fuel tank. Thorougly leaned air mass sensor and the idle control valve.
  • Peugeot 406 hdi - MAF sensor faulty 20 Jul 2013 (Forum)
I have a 406 HDI 2000 model (90hp) which has lost all power up until a week ago the car was going find and then all of a sudden one day its just lost everything its so flat you could almost walk faster. i have checked all the obvious things replaced fuel filters etc.  I did have the ecu codes read and it was showing MAF sensor short so we cleared the code but still no power.  There is no checklight on the dash.  i decided to clean the maf sensor but again still no change.
  • Electronic Ignition Fault - 406 90HDi 24 Feb 2013 (Forum)
The garage doing the recovery were very keen to take it to their own premises, said they had seen several Peugeots with the same fault recently, and it was the fuel pump above the tank every time. They even logged the reported fault as "fuel pump". The auto-electricians found a fault code indicating an imobiliser fault, and suggested possibly a bad connection, faulty key, or the sensor unit which clips rond the lock barrel.
  • Vaxhaull Vivaro - Vivaro Power Loss 25 Jan 2013 (Forum)
I then had it serviced by a local garage. He changed the oil (though the filter doesn't look new) Also fuel filter, air filter. Picked it up drove it home on side roads no problem, felt great!!! Jumped on the motorway next morning, got to about 3000rpm then glow/mangement light came on and van lost power.
  • Ford Fiesta (1995 - 1999) - 98 1.4 Multiple misfire under load 23 Jan 2013 (Forum)
I changed one thing at a time and after each change there was an improvement but the problem wasn't solved and the improvement didn't last long. Could it be a blocked/damaged Cat from the neat fuel as the misfire has been happening a while now, or an exhaust manifold leak or a faulty lambada or engine temp sensor? Or maybe a fuel problem? Or something else altogether? Any help really appreciated - I'm not sure what to try next and can't afford to just change everything!
  • vauxhall zafira 1.6 52 plate petrol - problems doing pedal test 30 Apr 2012 (Forum)
so far I have replaced a lambda sensor and fitted a blanking plate to rule out egr valve problem and put redex in with the latest fuel fill up the symptoms are stalling when slowing down erratic driving sometimes losing power completely and car goes into limp mode (pretty scary when you are on the motorway) fuel gauge suddenly drops before the erratic behaviour then goes up again.

Callled AA and he checked then started the car ok albeit sounded alittle hesitant, AA said could be too much fuel due to a short start and stop on drive etc and then left??? (no we did not do this) AA said Jags had a problem like this??? AA left and the car was road tested ok and all things appear to work Elect/mech etc.

  • Exeos Vs Skoda - Automatics CVT Vs DSG 19 Feb 2012 (Forum)
It needs to be a 2litre diesel with automatic gearbox,  a good reliable runner and reasonably fuel efficient. After visiting several dealers,  I'm coming down on either a Skoda Octavia with DSG or a Seat Exeo with their CVT transmission which fall neatly into my price range of around £16-£18k.
  • Ford Focus - Ford Focus 1.0 Ecoboost 31 Jan 2012 (Forum)
This highly efficient, technically advanced powertrain is not only great fun to drive, but it delivers fuel economy improvements and ultra-low CO2 emissions which lead to real world cost savings for our customers.” It will be interesting to see if the claimed fuel consumption translates in the real world!
  • Any - Next car - undecided between petrol or diesel 23 Jan 2012 (Forum)
I realise the potential downfalls of diesels and have to take those into consideration. Based on current fuel prices I would save around 2k a year on fuel with diesel.  I am looking at DPF free models as don't really want to fork out 1k at around 100k (will be buying 2nd hand with around 60-80k on the clock) I've had a few problems with my mazda 6 so want to move to a Jap brand with minimal/no European influence as reliability is incredibly important.
  • ford mondeo 03 2ltr diesel automatic - glow plug warning light flashing 4 Jan 2012 (Forum)
however, if i go to overtake someone, the warning light comes on, i feel a sudden loss of power, and then it crawls to a stop, with the engine cutting out as it slows to around 20mph, so just coasting the last part. stopping and restarting resolves the problem, but as this normally happens on a dual carriage way, i cannot increase speed to get back on the carriage way easily without the same problem occuring. so, the fuel filter was replace a year ago, and the cam sensor has just been replaced. the fault codes the RAC found were P1211 and P0251. what are peoples thoughts? should i try changing the fuel filter first?
  • Nissan Micra - What car to buy? 27 Nov 2011 (Forum)
I have heard that Ford Focus has good fuel economy and I liked the idea of a Golf but then I read the prices and they're too expensive..... Ideally I'd look to buy a 1 to 2 year old car. Any advice gratefully received!
  • Vauxhall Vectra C - vectra 1.9 cdti sri 120 intermitant (EML) 6 Oct 2011 (Forum)
Hi all,HELP can anybody help with my problam, ive recently taken my vectra to be diagnosed because my engine managment light kept coming on so he did the test and it was reading p0002-fuel metering solonoid valve circuit range/performance(present) p1125-throttle actuator malfunction(intermitent) p0960-rail pressure control solonoid valve circuit open(intermitent) After he had done this we had a look round the engine and noticed the the rod had come of the swirl flaps on the inlet manifold,he said this could be caursing the problam so i replaced the inlet manifold and it was still the same so i replaced the p0002 fuel metering solonoid valve and its still the same im not getin any symptons as such i just loose a bit of power be for it goes in to limp mode but if i dip thge clutch an rev it it revs really high before it goes in to limp mode could it be one of the intermittent faults thats caursing my EML to come on because the light does go of for a day or two and it runs sweat but when the light comes on it starts, well being a bit funny........ any advise would be great, could it be that the ECU want erasing or somthing i dont know?????????
  • Nissan Almera Tino (petrol) 2003 auto - Reluctant to start - starter motor sounded odd 21 Feb 2011 (Forum)
Took car for 5 mile drive, all seemed normal, switched off, restarted as normal no problem. So, seems okay now. Any obvious ideas what this was? Momentarily blocked fuel line? Contaminated fuel? Water in the petrol? Or?? Thanks.
  • Peugeot 306 Hdi - Advise needed on diagnostic results 11 Nov 2010 (Forum)
He suggested £280ish for the fuel regulator and around £100+ for an airflow sensor. The battery was bosch silver so was under its 5 year warranty. My question is do I need to get parts from the dealer only as the mechanic doesnt trust aftermarket parts?
  • Skoda Octavia VRS & MG ZT-T cdti - My lovely Skoda VRS vs ....an MG?! 7 Nov 2010 (Forum)

  • Ford Galaxy Mk2 2.3 Ghia - Ford Galaxy Mk2 intermittent starting problem 2 Nov 2010 (Forum)
On tuesday it took over 8 minutes of key turning before it would start. Sods law dictated I had just filled it with fuel and was parked next to the pump having just paid, with a queue behind waiting...... I have changed the remote batteries, but still the randomness returns. Any ideas for a cure would be much appreciated.
  • Vauxhall Astra G Coupe/Convertible (2000 - 2004) - 02 2.2 Misfiring 4 Jan 2010 (Forum)
I tried to start the car, the car turned over and started but then cut out. I tried again and again but still the same thing was happeneing. The car was low on fuel though. I pushed the car off the slight incline it was on the the car started. There was a slight knocking when the car was turning over. When the car started, it was knocking slightly but was running on 3 cylinders and really flat.
  • Another New Car Choice Query 25 Nov 2009 (Forum)
She would like a more fuel efficient vehicle and is very keen on the new Ford Fiesta 1.4 Zetec. It has similiar fittings to her Mondeo, such as heated windscreen and trip computer etc., all items which she is keen to retain in a new car.
