Fuel economy on new car 17 Mar 2006 (Forum)
However, on my rough calculations we are only getting approx 28mpg and yet we are driving very sedately at the moment. I'm aware that on new cars, they are not fully economical and takes time for the engine to bed down before becoming more economical. However, this does seems to be a remarkable low fuel economy rate. How many miles does diesel engines needs to cover before they become more economical? -

Clever idea. 26 Sep 2003 (Forum)
A while back, we had a thread about 'things to keep in the car'. Rather than regurgitate that one, I thought I'd post this, as it seems good advice to me... It comes from a local site, where people asked "is it safe to put XXX oil in my car when it needs a top up?" -

Vauxhall Cavalier (1988 - 1995) - 94 1.8 misfire/judder when idle 12 Oct 2009 (Forum)
hi new to forum recently bought a old cav as a winter hack while motorbike comes off the road for the winter.was running perfect when i bought it.parkesd it on the drive about a week later replaced rocker cover gasket as it was leaking, topped oil up with some 15w40 semi synthetic.started it up and now there is a horrible vibration when inside the car and the engine is slightly misfiring.removed plugs to find out which cylinder was misfiring seems to be no.4 as plug is a soot black colour where the other 3 are tan.replaced all plugs and leads but still with no joy.is it just co incedence that this occured when i changed rocker cover gasket.also cyl no.4 lifter is tappy which it wasnt before i changed gasket.the old gasket was a cork one and had to be scraped off,if a bit of old gasket flung intothe top of the engine.could this cause the misfire.or is it a sticky lifter as it had sat for 2 weeks before i bought it.i have put some hydralic lifter treatment in incase it is a sticky lifter but cant drive it as am not insured yet so can only rev it on the drive to work the treatment round. any help suiggestions greatly appreciated as unsure what it could be it is a 94 lreg cavalier 1.8 auto fitted with c18nz engine and it has the ignotion where there is no dizzy cap.thanks -
Minor damages caused by dealership 10 Mar 2004 (Forum)
The boot lining panel which was removed to repair the notorious leaking rear washer jet problem, has been cracked in three locations due to poor design and excessive use of force to remove or replace it. The cosmetic / sound damping engine cover has which is held in place by three mounting bolts which screw into a plastic / rubber retaining bolt, two of these have been damaged due to overtightening, the plastic covers which hide the bolt heads from view have been removed and not replaced. -
Puzzling Passat equation 29 Apr 2003 (Forum)
Went ahead and bought my Passat from the company today. It's a 98R 1.8S 20V with Climatronic which has covered 70k and is in what I'd call good nick - mechanically fine, but a scrape on the OSF wheelarch eyebrow (cosmetically okay otherwise). I got it for the princely sum of £500 (that's five hundred), because they owed me a favour. -
Vectra ('01 / Y) SRi 2.2 Cam chain 23 Dec 2002 (Forum)
The AA come out and tell me there is no compression. I end up paying out 170 quid to a recovery firm (My AA cover only was for roadside rescue). BUT...... and this is the main point. Can I get my money back from Vauxhall ? If the car is still under warranty, why do I now need a new engine ? Surely the servicing should know about 20K miles being too long to leave the oil in (I admit, I didn't, but I'm not a mechanic) I have had no sense out of anyone at Vauxhall, and am seriously considering suing them under the sale of goods act. -
