Strained noise from mondeo normal? 11 Sep 2005 (Forum)
The dealer assured that the noise is just normal but on cold starts especially there is what i can only describe as a vibrating type sound coming from the engine, kinda like something is loose maybe? its a ghia x tdci 2005. also when driving the car i have managed to stall it 3 times, 2 of them dangerously, ie junction. does the car need loadsa gas to get going or is it my car that is messed up, if i let the car drive forward with no revs slowly the revs dip suddenly and then just before the car stalls they shoot up to stop it from stalling, is this normal? -
GPS Safey Alerts Systems 24 Apr 2005 (Forum)
I am interested to know more about GPS Systems that alert you to speed cameras, accident blackspots etc. I have read that the use of them can reduce accidents but it strikes me that if we drive within the speed limit there would be no need for these devices at all. I like gadgets and was wondering about getting a Road Angel or Snooper Evolution - but would it just be a waste of money and make me rely on the device being alert rather than me being alert and driving properly??? -
Honda Jazz 21 Apr 2005 (Forum)
I went with my wife for a test drive today, in the CVT version. I didn't drive it but we were both very impressed with it. The ride is good and the internal space is excellent. The auto box changes gear very smoothly, the handling is good and the engine is refined. -
One-handed steering 4 Apr 2005 (Forum)
My parnter insists on driving her car with one hand on the steering wheel with the other varioulsy on the gear lever (horror of horrors - as was Jason!) or on her left leg. Where and why does this habit originate from? -
Are 'P' plates a good idea? 4 Apr 2005 (Forum)
I'm not so sure. Having been assisting Mrs V learn to drive I've been in a car equipped with 'L' plates for the first time in over 20 years. What I've noticed is that 'L' plates seem to attract moronic behaviour rather than assuage it. Anyway, her test rapidly approaching' she's asked me whether I'd suggest she drive using 'P' plates if/when she passes. -

Dad wants a new car 17 Feb 2005 (Forum)
He currently has a L plate Rover 214sli, which I have said (to his utter dismay) is worth a few hundred quid. He never drives on the motorway, never goes above 3000rpm, never drives quickly at all. He will probably keep the car until it gives up the ghost. his only requirements are - fitting the weekly shop into the boot, reliable, 5 doors. -

My No Claims Bonus has gone!!! 3 Dec 2004 (Forum)
I insured my Spanish car through Linea Directa (Direct Line) using my UK NCB. Now I have returned to the UK and because I have lapsed my UK driving insurance my NCB has gone back to zero!! Be warned if you stop driving for a period of time your NCB stops as well. Direct line tell me that because the spanish organisation is separate from the UK one they can not transfer the NCB??? -
Suzuki Wagon R+ 21 Sep 2004 (Forum)
We have seen a couple of examples, about 2 or 3 years old with less than 15,000 miles. Seems to well well looked after. I know its not a great car to drive. Mainly interested in convenience for an older driver and reliability. Any thoughts/experiences? -- Espada III - well if you have a family and need a Lamborghini, what else do you drive? -

Insurance - Fully Comp? 4 Jun 2004 (Forum)
Hello all, After my first year of car ownership (and third party insurance in my name) I have decided that I will upgrade to fully comp insurance as it's only a touch more in the second year. Anyway, I have been told that fully comprehensive cover entitles you to drive any other car third party? Is this true? It would be most helpful as sometimes I play taxi to my Mum and Dad when they want to go out for a drink so being able to drive his would make a lot more sense on those occasions. -
Flashed at in France 7 Feb 2004 (Forum)
BTW for those of you who are off to France, the police are now stopping anyone doing more than 136 kmh on the 130 kmh stretch of the autoroute. It is incredible how much slower the French drive now! -

Clarkson gets Bentley stuck! 26 Oct 2003 (Forum)
In my local free paper last Friday, full article on Jeremy Clarkson getting the next Bentley Coupe stuck on a local beach in a piece for the new Top Gear series. The producer asked him to drive the Bentley onto the shingle beach (Budleigh Salteron, Devon) in the sunset. The car (probably weighing c 2 tons?) couldn't drive off as it sunk into the shingle - so they spent some furious time digging it out & using boards! -
Sympathy for White Van Man 2 Oct 2003 (Forum)
First time I have ever driven something bigger than a car (well, I have driven a tank, but that was off road) and I now appreciate just how different your approach to driving has to be. Sadly I only managed to do 30 miles before the clutch gave up on me, just at J2 of the M57. Have received a lot of ribbing about that, given it was my first time driving the vehicle. -

With BMW's toy I would be tempted even more, with the consequent distraction from driving. Have Rolls Royce got it right - do we really need so much information? -
insurance requirements? 28 Nov 2002 (Forum)
I have an old banger which I run as a second car and i'm trying to work out what the least I can pay to insure it is? I have a policy in my own name for another vehicle which allows me to drive other vehicles third party only. The exception is that it doesn't cover other vehicles owned by me; fair enough. If I register the 2nd car in my partners name then technically it's not owned by me so my insurance should cover me to drive it?
