In my local free paper last Friday, full article on Jeremy Clarkson getting the next Bentley Coupe stuck on a local beach in a piece for the new Top Gear series.
The producer asked him to drive the Bentley onto the shingle beach (Budleigh Salteron, Devon) in the sunset. The car (probably weighing c 2 tons?) couldn't drive off as it sunk into the shingle - so they spent some furious time digging it out & using boards!
Jezza was apparently not amused ("I told you that would happen"!) & stormed off.
This was all captured on camera by a local journalist. I have to say Jezza's face was a picture!

Any pics or links to pics avaialble? I'd love to see this.
|
LOL I would love to see that too!
I take it "Jezza" is clarkson?
|
Jezza is clarkson. I will get the story & picture scanned as the local paper (Exmouth Herald) is not sophisticated enough to have a website!

I am thinking about getting a subscription to the Top Gear magazine but it is pretty expensive to get it in the USA (65 pounds for 12 issues and a free T-shirt). Is it worth it? I really love the TV show so I thought it would be great to get the magazine but I don?t want it to be a disappointment for that much money. Anyone like it or dislike it?

"65 pounds for 12 issues"
Strewth! And to think we can have that many National Geographics for 30 pounds... TG magazine is very overrated, IMHO. Car magazine is the best produced (again, IMHO) but you have Road & Track, which used to be pretty wonderful.

Very interesting. BTW, Clarkson is the guest on this week's Desert Island Discs on Friday morning @ 09:00. Be interesting to see what music he selects...

sounds great!
the "Sun" link is out of date now, so if anyone could put the story on here, it would be appreciated...

It might be shown on the new series of TG tommorow evening. 8pm, BBC2.
|
But only if Jezza doesn't find out first DD!
I wonder if they've traded in the "dodgy fat used car salesman" in for a new model again this series....

The dear old Currant Bun want a subscription and "from as little as 40p per article" to recover the "archived" story and pictures. Will have a mooch around the web to see if there are any other links.

great link Chris! Thanks a lot.
I see Clarkson couldn't make Desert Island Discs this week - what would he have chosen?
Floodland - Sisters of Mercy
This Ship is Sinking - Annie Lennox
Down Down Deeper and Down - Quo
Sailing - Rod Stewart
um...
ta from pat, (ex-pat but still pat if you see what I mean)

The Great Man also refers to the incident in this week's STimes.

I'm not a subscriber to that service, though I read from king arthur on www.mg-rover.org that Clarkson was still being rude about MGRs despite the help he got from their garage! "looks like a Rover 75 from the front and like a car from the back"(!!)

Clarkson speaks highly of the Rover 75. Indeed, I beleive I once read him saying that he could find no better Motorway cruiser for the money.
