Nine grey imports, some yet to undergo SVA tests and some registered, stolen, cloned but restored back to their true identities were sold on behalf of Hampshire Constabulary. The 1999V registered Toyota Landcruiser VX 4.2 diesel automatic in the photo with 45,000 unwarranted miles sold for a heady £19,000.

  Museum restores vintage truck 22 May 2018 (News)
  ‘This little truck has been a favourite piece of the collection since the very beginning,’ museum curator, Michael Tambini, commented. ‘The important heritage of the Austin Seven cannot be overstated, as it helped to revive the British automotive industry after the First World War. It is an important milestone in the history of motoring and I am so proud of the hard work that went into restoring this gem.

  Its estimate is £48,000-60,000. The final Pagoda in the sale is a 1965 230SL, which has been imported from the USA, and is described as the ideal basis for a winter Pagoda project. The 1956 190SL is a left-hand drive example, that was imported to the UK from New Zealand in 2011 and has been with the same family for the past 25 years.

  The prize ceremony was attended by technicians and technical experts including Frank Massey, James Dillon and scores of automotive industry figures. The winner was announced by Honest John who commented: "This is very important. It's important that people can take their car to a garage and get it fixed and not have to repeatedly take it back for the same fault or get ripped off. The best people are first-time fixers." Stuart took top spot after winning through a series of online, practical and written tests set by chief examiner Ian Gillgrass of the IMI and his team of expert judges including Delphi trainer Rob Lewis and 2008 Top Technician winner Mark Banks.

  The 2.8-litre engine is in good running condition with 95,900km on the clock (59,600 miles). The car has recently been imported to the UK and the bodywork, paint and trim are said to be in ‘almost pristine’ condition. Supplied with manuals, service book and the original bill of sale, the Pagoda is left-hand drive with a manual gearbox and has a sale estimate of £50,000-£55,000.

  July 1977 saw the launch of Chrysler’s all-important small car, the Sunbeam. And to promote it the company employed the services of Petula Clark, the ’60s star who now found herself wearing a tight perm and singing about a hatchback. The song was a version of Petula’s ‘Put a Little Sunshine in Your Life’, adapted to ‘Put a Chrysler Sunbeam in Your Life’ by those crafty creatives at Chrysler, with the second line promising ‘It’ll put a smile on your face’.  A Sunbeam was shown tackling a variety of rural roads, while a voiceover boasted about the car’s annual service intervals and 50mpg fuel economy.
