Manufacturers without a record of problems 17 Feb 2010 (Forum)
Car makers singled out to avoid include Mercedes (because of the current injector issues), Vauxhall, Renault and Mazda diesels. What cars are the polar opposite of these? In other words, which cars would Backroomers buy in the reasonable expectation that they would last a good few years and not cost a great deal to keep on the road? -
Warning engine company 28 May 2009 (Forum)
snip Just a note to warn everyone as I couldnt find any feedback about them anywhere so went for it - the Turbo went on my Renault and so consequently needed a new engine - found a part finding web site added my details and got a text back from this company letting me know they had the correct engine code etc for a reasonable price - but surprise surprise the engine that was shipped out wasnt the correct one - not even for a model in this country same story for the second engine they sent and now they are refusing to refund or pick them up luckily enough bought them on the old plastic so it should be ok, I know it says not to name and shame but its true so not defamation : ) -
02 Laguna - worth a punt? 22 Jan 2009 (Forum)
I've seen an 02 Renault Laguna 1.8 petrol Dynamique for sale at a main dealer, 56K, FSH, seems to be in good nick. £2995. I know it hasn't exactly been given a glowing review in car-by-car, but I like the car and it does have its good points: 5 * safety Xenon headlights - I live in a rural area Quite comfortable. -
Anonymous cars in adverts 28 May 2008 (Forum)
Do the advert makers take a real car and alter the exterior to make a anonymous looking car so not to upset the real manufacturer? The first one is for the Renault Scenic where the wife and kids get all excited, then discover it's the car parked behind that the husband/dad has bought...and they are not impressed. I can't work out what the car behind really is, it looks a small MPV but which one? -
New Twingo and Pug 308 31 Jul 2007 (Forum)
The Twingo looks for all the world like a faclifted Citroen C2, especially from the side and rear. The front is just plain bland. What with the new Laguna, whatever happened to Renaults design flair?? The original Twingo is still an outstanding piece of design, but doubtless the new one will be cheaper to make and more profitable ... yawn! The Pug 308s were on a transporter, and it was only when I was right alongside that I realised that they weren't 207s. -
Your favourite car manufacturer 4 Jul 2007 (Forum)
My favourite manufacturer is Mazda without doubt because they make ***very reliable*** cars, the cars are reasonably priced and quite easy to maintain. I dislike Renault the most becasue they just want to make good looking cars, I think they never even try to improve the reliability of their cars. While replying please also state why you like a particular manufacturer or why you dislike one! -
Our current C-Max vs replacement Scenic 12 Jun 2007 (Forum)
We just don't get on with the c-Max (too many rattles and nasty plastic bits) Currently has : C-MAX 2.0 TDCi ZETEC, 54 plate, 22000 miles. We've seen a RENAULT SCENIC 1.5 dCi (86 BHP) Expression, 55 plate 11000 miles Price to change £1,500. (main dealer) Questions : (1) Opinions on the scenic versus c-max? (2) Opinions on the reliability of the Scenic? -
to much to fix - put it in auction 3 Jan 2007 (Forum)
a friend of mine took his GREEN 1.6 RENAULT MEGANE COUPE W REG WITH 45K to his mechanic as it was making a noise and has been told the camshaft has gone and it is going to cost around £800 to fix. He cant eally afford to pay for the work and is deciding what to do. i suggested putting it into an auction. i know its dishonest but maybe he might get a half decent price for it. -

Holiday observations 8 Aug 2006 (Forum)
If you wonder where all the Petrol stations have gone, you'll find them on the roads leading from Switzerland into France. 4. I have only ever seen two Renault Megane Estates - did they just not make many ? 5. er thats it, although I did see a Studebaker in Nyon no.. I thought not. -
New Espace broken exhaust joint 7 Aug 2006 (Forum)
The exhaust seems to be a one piece from the cat to the back box. What are the chances of it being welded up again? I know someone at Renault and they are getting me a price for a new exhaust but I dont think much change out of £1k for a complete exhaust inc cats. -

scenic fuel filter 23 Apr 2006 (Forum)
hi i have a renault scenic 2002 1.9dci.it has been suggested to me that i should change the fuel filter as it is a probable cause to my jerking at steady speeds then dissapearing on acceleration.it also seems to lack power on the lower end rev range.i have never had to change a fuel filter before or even know any one that has had to.what is the likelyness of this being the prob.the car has only covered 33600 miles and the wrong fuel was put in(previous owner)at 24000 miles, would the filter have not been changed then??? -
3k - as powerful as poss & In group 15 27 Mar 2006 (Forum)
My friend Adam at work is a bit of a boy racer and is looking for a car to have some fun in. He's got his heart set on a Renault 5 turbo but I think he could get something more solid & safer for the 3k he has. His criteria is: 3k maximum spend Insurance group no more than 15 Fast & fun I came up with the following, some are closer matches than others: * Old BMW 325 / 328 (e36 shape) * Ricer i.e. 3000GT, GTO, MR2, RX7 (although most too much on insurance) * Mark 1 or 2 Golf GTI Can anyone else help with this very serious problem!!?? -
Mondeo joins the ranks of legends like.. 5 Mar 2006 (Forum)
... the Renault 11 and Citroën 2CV. http://www.mi6.co.uk/news/index.php?itemid=3423 I'm really surprised no one has posted this yet. Ford have apparently paid £14m (!) for prodcut placement of the Mondeo in the next Bond film, although there will also be Aston Martins featured. -

Meganes assistance needed 11 Sep 2005 (Forum)
New tyre's required just after the 18,000 mile service and a comment on the service that the brakes would need seeing to on the next service. 2nd service new discs required as binding - Renault have offerred to pay 50% trade price - but I have to pay 50% of retail price nearly £200 but the dealer will not contribute anything. Dealer was curt in his response to my asking if it was correct that the cars are stored abroad in a compound and the disc get rusty - prior to delivery the discs should be cleaned if not cleaned then they bind - Could this be anything to do with the problem? -

Megane - strange smell 5 Aug 2005 (Forum)
I wonder if it could be something to do with the aircon but I gave it a good run on hot air to dry it all out and it's no better. Car was fine when I put it in the garage. I've not had this problem on previous Renaults. Does anyone know what might be causing it? Could it be mould in the aircon? If so, how do I get rid of it? Car is only just over a year old. Thanks X
