  • What to buy 14 Feb 2011 (Forum)
Looking for suggestions on what to buy for my next car. I would like a fairly new Audi A3 after that car so am only looking to have the car for a year or so. My budget will be around 8-9k. I currently drive a Focus Mk1 1.6l and do not really want to downsize but would if it was a smart option for my money and and helped towards my long term goal.

  • Volkswagen Passat (2005 - ) - What price for 55' passat at auction? 20 Aug 2008 (Forum)
Hi After having a company car for a few years Im now in a job where I need to buy my own. Im looking at either an Audi A6, VW Passat or Ford Mondeo. Hatchback or saloon models & 2.0 diesel engine with manual gearbox. I favour the passat, although maybe not the best looking ive had one before and they are a good drive & fairly decent build quality.
  • Speedsters galore, fuel must be too cheap 4 Jun 2008 (Forum)
Why is it that drivers of diesel engined BMW, Audi, Mercedes and VW cars speed along dual carriageways well in excess of the speed limit ? Today I lost count with the number of drivers who must have been doing well in excess of 90 mph along the A46 and not for the first time either.
  • BMW 3-Series E46 (1998 - 2005) - How safe a buy is a 3yo BMW 320d 21 Jan 2008 (Forum)
Having sold my auction sourced Audi A3 TDi recently I was contemplating returning to auction to buy an E46 320d off the fleet, probably 2004 around 80K for about 8-9K. However I have been alarmed by reports of very expensive repairs to the turbo.
  • Jaguar X-Type (2001 - 2009) - auto question? 19 Jan 2008 (Forum)
The J gate auto does not seem to have a "Tiptronic" type function, it is either fully auto or, when the lever is moved around to the hook of the J, manual selection of 2, 3, or 4 only, i.e. no option to flick up and down the ratios like the BMW system I am familiar with. Likewise Audi where you move the lever to one side and a flick changes up or down. Any experinces of the Jag system in use? Reckon I would prefer the manual.
  • Freelander 2 deliveries 28 Mar 2007 (Forum)
The original salesman I ordered the car from "left the company" shortly after and my first taste of Landrover customer service after years of VW/Audi seems shocking.
  • Any better ideas? 20 Sep 2006 (Forum)
I don't want something too polluting but that still has a bit of poke, is reasonably fun to drive and I need the room. I've also considered a Skoda Octavia, the Audi A3 Sportback, the Saab 9-3. Any better suggestions? Thanks.
  • Laying up car for 6 months 20 Sep 2006 (Forum)
You may have read my other post re: buying an Audi A4. We have decided to keep my girlfriends old car and store it in a garage for 6 months for my brother to learn to drive in. Question is should I be doing anything special for this short space of time.
  • MINI One or MINI Cooper? 16 Jan 2006 (Forum)
Journeys are mainly her driving 5 miles to and from work, plus me borrowing it for some long business trips to keep the mileage under control on the Audi. The question is really - in day-to-day driving, is the extra pace of the Cooper worth it? I know there's a new version coming - not till early next year I believe, and there were plenty of teething problems with the current version when it first came out.
  • I-Shift 5 Dec 2005 (Forum)
I hope not, because aside from a traditional 4 speed auto box on cars like the above, the only other new gearbox that has had positive write-ups is the VW/Audi DSG box.
  • radio reception and 530d 13 Apr 2005 (Forum)
have any backroomers found the reception of their radios on their bMW 5 series a bit wanting, the reception is ok with the engine off,but once starting the engine,it goes crackly.this is especially true for MW stations. It gets worse on putting the rear demister on when even the local FM radio station gets affected.I am not sure if it has got to with the reception generally in the area as the reception on my audi 80 which is 12 yrs old in the same areas is good.any thoughts whether there is problem with the electrics/fuel management or just defective aerial/radio on my recently acquired 530d which is 2002/51 year model.
  • Buying a used hatchback...i need help! 29 Jul 2004 (Forum)
I'm looking for a used car for myself, a hatchback, preferably a diesel at the £5500 price limit and a car with the same body shape as a VW Golf mk4, like a Honda Civic or an Audi A3 or indeed a Golf etc, basically a hatchback on the larger side. • US Car prices and observations 13 May 2004 (Forum)
It was also interesting to see 'normal' European cars with not so common engines - plenty of W8 Passats and quite a few new style Audi A8s with the larger engines. Petrol is now $2 a gallon (!), but I can't see diesels becoming common - only saw one diesel car, an older MB E class!
  • Buying private used car - FINANCE? 29 Dec 2003 (Forum)
Hi, I've agreed a purchase on a 2000 Audi S3 - mint condition - everything I've been looking for. The young lad selling it said he had finance outstanding. He seemed a very open, honest and genuine bloke but one can never be too careful.

  • 1988 Golf GT won't start 24 Jul 2003 (Forum)
I own a 88 Golf GT with 184K on it. I recently borrowed a 88 Audi 90 Quattro for about 3 weeks so I didn't drive my Golf. ;DI went to start it yesterday and it wouldn't turn over. Come to find my battery was completely dead. Tried jumping w/out luck. It will barely turn over and then all electrical (lights, clock, etc.)will die.
  • Age limits for cars! 22 Jun 2003 (Forum)
"Audi - the car for people who'd really like an Mitsubishi EVO, but might feel a bit embarassed in one at the golf club..." Nsar having come up with this little gem on a different thread made me laugh and wonder whether there are unstated age limits for cars.
  • Brand loyalty 20 Mar 2003 (Forum)
I confess that I have never even considered any other brand in my last 4 purchases. Possibly if I had looked at say Audi or BMW for example I may have been tempted ( for a bit more dosh of course). So I must be the type of customer the car manufacturers and dealerships must spend zillions on culturing. Am I guilty of allowing myself to be relieved of my money by seduction and manipulation.
  • Personal Plate from DVLA 16 Feb 2003 (Forum)
I've just bought a second hand Audi (collect it tomorrow) and also gone and bought a £250 personal plate from DVLA. Should I wait until I get my V5 back from DVLA before I transfer the new number to the car or does it matter. I'm worried that the ownership details will somehow get crossed in the mix and that it will delay not only the V5 process but also that it will stop me putting the plate on the car.
