  • Zafira 1.8 petrol auto 2003 - Cold start problem - please help !! 1 Feb 2013 (Forum)
Had a new radiator fitted first to cure the leak although I know this is nothing to do with this issue, just trying to give all the history I know Thought maybe it was it not getting enough air, so the air intakee valve was stripped and cleaned and replaced with a new air filter at that point Still didn't seem to want to fire, so full set of new plugs were put in, coil pack has been replaced also Oil filter and oil changed Checked fuel pressure, the rail is primed and there is loads of fuel pressure so didn't appear to be a fuel supply issue Took it to a garage, had diagnostics done, ecu reported a faulty crank shaft sensor, replaced this, made no difference (although it has cured the rough idle when it is running) Battery is good, in fact cranked it over with battery attached to a second huge battery at same time and still same issue, so don't think it can be any issue there!
  • 2005 Volkswagen Polo 1.2 E (55PS) - Help with Error Codes 2 Jun 2012 (Forum)
Since doing this, I am getting these error codes though (even after clearing the codes, road testing, then reading them again); P0342, P0322, P1680, P1603, P1558, P0303 The mechanic thinks it could possibly a burned valve, as the ECU is known to throw all sorts of codes up when this happens. Is this a possibility? The engine does sound lumpy (and you can feel the car shaking too) and a bit "put put put" on tickover. Any ideas?
  • All - DPF regen and low EGTs 2 Jan 2012 (Forum)
The fundamental problem is low Exhaust Gas Temperatures (EGTs) inherent with the low engine load. With low EGTs, the ECU has to spray disel into the exhaust gas stream to raise the EGTs to a sufficiently hightemperature to burn off the soot. Clearly this is waste of fuel since diesel burned in the exhaust does not contribute to useful work.
  • 51-plate Astra G 1.8 16v SRI - Running Problems, Astra G 1.8 16v SRI 29 Oct 2011 (Forum)

  • Ford Mondeo 2003 130 TDCi - Charging light on - Engine Management Unit? 21 May 2011 (Forum)
Then latest charging problems cost me over £500, and they are now talking about the ECU possibly being at fault, which I'm guessing won't be cheap!  Is this likely to be the fault; we're going on holiday soon and I really want the thing fixed, if I don't trust it then I'll have to hire a car which I don't really want to do.
  • c15/ 1.9d Berlingo mpv - XUD engine 24 Apr 2011 (Forum)
I thought at one point that it was true that I could look up until the year 2005. But then I was thrown by seeing a 1.9d berlingo 2004 with a ECU engine management system. None of the sites such as wikipedia go into enough detail. So please can you help me find out what berlingo I should look for. PS.
  • VW passat 1.9 TDi PD 115 AJM - hesitation under load & lack of boost at 3000 rpm? 19 Apr 2011 (Forum)
Now really stuck as to what to do next, people have suggested changing fuel filter, replacing the housing to the fuel temp sensor, cleaning the MAF connector, replacing the thin hose that runs from the exhaust near the turbo to the ECU? ? dont know whether any of these things will help or if there is any new ideas people might have? Thanks in advance Natalie
  • ford mondeo mk2 1800 - mondeo idle/emissions & brake pedal travel problem 22 Mar 2011 (Forum)
but after driving for about 5 mins, the idle speed goes back up to 1200-1500. i've rea that this could be the cat or lambda sensor, or maf, or ecu temp sender or anything really, but don't want to be changing everything just to see - what could be the most likely? any suggestions are most welcome, as i'm out of ideas!! many thanks dan
  • Peugeot 406 HDI (year 2000) - EGR Code P0401 - MAF Sensor problem 22 Feb 2011 (Forum)
LAST NOTE:- just prior to all this, battery totally died, so replaced it - P0401 came on very shortly after this - although I can't see a connection unless when new battery was connected it put a spike through the ECU causing reoccuring spurious code - again any ideas welcome....? many thanks ---> SU37
  • 05 Ford Mondeo 2.0 TDCI (115) - Rough Idle 22 Jan 2011 (Forum)
Are there any sensors around that area that could be causing the problem and are perhaps overheating? The only other thing worth mentioning is that the ECU had a software update late 2009. Any ideas or help would be much appreciated :-) Cheers Chris
  • Ford Focus 1.4 '04 - Ford Focus 04 Dashboard Problems 12 Dec 2010 (Forum)
    - Indicators work but are sometimes sporadic in their flashing - There is a horn/beep sound that is a single note every ten seconds coming from the right side of the driver footwell, not sure if this is where the ecu is located. **The main lights work fine and so does the stereo   I'm planning on getting some electrical contact spray and removing/cleaning the earth straps on the body around the engine before I consider taking it to a garage.
  • Seat Alhambra 1.9Tdi 115bhp-Limp Mode 26 Sep 2010 (Forum)
Reading the threads, other people with the same problem have questioned the turbo itself, the Mass air meter (which has recently been changed) the coolant temperature sensor & the ECU. However, a common trait with this seems to be a split, loose or collapsed rubber pipe related to the turbo/valve. l would be gratfull for any info' on exactly which pipe may be at fault, or any other suggestions.
  • Can you recommend a reliable diesel for less than £1000? 18 Aug 2010 (Ask HJ)
I'm looking for a reliable diesel for £1000. Which is the best to go for? I need something that does roughly 50mpg and doesn't brake down very often, if...
  • KIA Rio (2005 - ) - 1.5 CRDi Fuel consumption 18 Mar 2010 (Forum)
How long has your Kia taken to "bed in". Anyone actually gone back to a Kia dealer and they found a problem with the fuel system or ECU or sensors etc. Cheers Stevie G
  • Vauxhall Astra F (1991 - 1998) - 96 1.4 Loss of power difficult to start X14NZ engi 5 Dec 2009 (Forum)
Feels as though its lost cylinders (but it hasn't) or timing is really badly off. No codes are shown by the ecu. Vauxhall diagnosed head gasket, so replaced head gasket (no evidence of failure), water pump, belts etc. to no avail. Local engineer had a go and replaced Lombard? sensor to no avail. He managed to significantly improve running by advancing the distributor (timing), but still not right and obviously a bit of a botch.
  • Vauxhall Astra F (1991 - 1998) - 97 1.6 Immobiliser problems 31 Oct 2009 (Forum)
Hi there,,got a 97 Astra 1.6 16v auto,,batt light came on whilst driving, then went off 5secs later.Pulled up at house 2mins later and took key out and it came back on and still stays on with key out.Put key back in but car would not start,,it did for 2secs then died,,few times. After much fluffing about by a "diagnostic guy" says alt is shorting on inside,ECU says no signal from immob,,he says this means my immob has kicked in and car wont start,,was worried that my eml was not lit,,,said he would comeback with right software for wotever, and in meantime i should take out clocks and check eml bulb.Did this,,bulb blown,,others missing,??
  • Chrysler Voyager (1997 - 2001) - 2000 2.5 immobiliser problems 23 Sep 2009 (Forum)
3/ Same thing again so then towed to auto sparky - but started next morning fine? 4/ Taken to crysler today and ecu had stored code of fault on transponder but they say transponder checked out ok and can not do anything untill code is active- got new key and fob on order as they suggested this may be the problem as we only have one set and key is worn(so need a spare anyway £200) they also say that should think about replacing the screem module if still not fixed with new key ?
  • Ford Mondeo III (2000 - 2007) - 05 2.0 a/c fan not working 26 Jun 2009 (Forum)
Somebody on the Mondeo forum said replace the fan switch. Prob now is parts people say they don't have a fan switch, Mk3 ECU does all that??? I've had it regassed, and its ice cold on the go, so it's not that. I've changed the low pressure switch, not that. On advice that it's been a cause of identical problems, I've tried a new 60amp fuse, but it made no difference.
  • Volkswagen Golf IV (1998 - 2004) - 2000 1.6 EPC / Exhaust System Light - At wits end 11 Sep 2008 (Forum)
I would take this to a small independent, but a couple of months ago the lights came on as I was passing the authorised dealer - so I took it in there and the ecu fault indicated the throttle position sensor to blame. An air intake hose was replaced and the accelerator pedal fault was noted as "sporadic and may return". The sensor light did return, so I took it back to the Authorised Dealer as I thought it may be the same problem so may be fixed for free.
  • Ford Focus (1998 - 2004) - 2000 1.8 Temp gauge into red, fan running constant 18 Aug 2008 (Forum)
Then as I mentioned the temp gauge went to red. My knowledge of car engines (especially for anything controlled by ecu's) is very limited but I'm willing to learn. Any suggestions on checks I can undertake and signs to look out for to determine the cause of the problem and possible fixes would be appreciated. In other posts (mikej, same car, similar problem without the "broken" heater factor) I picked up references to head gaskets, radiator blockage, coolant factors, temp thermostat but to be honest I don't know where to start.
