If this did not include jump starting, then it should be made clearly known to the owner, not to jump start the vehicle. So for the ECU to fail, means that the ECU hasn’t met this EEC standard. Warranty claims could be pursued here by asking if it has met the EEC standard, if so then why has it failed, surely the manufacturer would like to know. -

Mitsubishi Recalls Grey Evos 19 Jul 2001 (News)
Mitsubishi has announced a recall of all Lancer Evolution IV and Evo V models built between December 1996 and July 1998 that have reached the UK. The recall involves replacement of the Anti Yaw Control ECU which has been improperly programmed. This controls the power split to the left and right rear wheels. If it were to fail, the clutches in the differential would not engage and could cuase damage to the rear axle diff. -
Subaru reduces WRX STI price 24 Aug 2012 (News)
That price buys a 2.5-litre 300PS all-wheel drive performance car, but those hankering for more performance can upgrade for £1599. That increases performance to 340PS, by way of altered ECU settings and a tweaked exhaust system. The upgraded 340R model will hit 60mph in 4.7 seconds, with improved in gear acceleration to boot.
