2001 Peugeot 306...1.9d non turbo.. 120,000 miles.. In Spain.. very good shape.. I just returned from a 700 mile roadtrip. After approximately 200 miles I was driving on the highway around 65mph and all of a sudden the tyipical "nuts and bolts in a coffee can" noise appeared and was impossible to miss, much louder than the normal idle noise.. -
£1500 to spend this weekend 11 Aug 2007 (Forum)
We want something a bit different, with a big engine that will get us round our 4000 mile trip to Southern Spain and back with the minimum of hassle, in the maximum of comfort. Short-list so far is: Jeep Cherokee 4.0 Mercedes 300TE/S-class (if we can find one in budget BMW 5/7 series (530/535) Range Rover 3.9 Or any other suggestions! -
3 Fords, but which one? 25 Dec 2005 (Forum)
Well with the fun handled by the Celica (which she may keep or replace with an MR2) she's after a commuting car - and one that can handle well (back-roads abound) and one that's economical, and with their new place in Spain, one with a huge boot. So here's the thing... I suggested (as a Focus owner) an old-shape Focus 1.8 TDCi Ghia estate with all the bits, one of the last (05) - £9k. But then I realised that for a little bit more (£1k-2k) you can have an 05 Mondeo TDCi 130 for that, or even a Focus C-MAX 1.6/2.0 TDCi. -
Spaniards and their driving 7 Jun 2005 (Forum)
Just come back from two weeks in (very) sunny Spain. All I can say is that the Spanish method of driving is barmy. It seems to consist of driving as close to the vehicle in front as possible until they get out of the way. The parking was hilarious. -
Peugeot 406 2.1 TD, engine cutting out. 28 Feb 2002 (Forum)
Yesterday the engine stopped again for a second and a further twice all within the space of half a mile, but was then O K for ten miles home. The problem is I am due to go to Spain on Sunday 3 April, towing a caravan, for six weeks and I am worried about what may happen. My garage suggested a new fuel filter and this has been done, even though accordind toinvoices the filter had only been in use since 37,000. -

Citroen C5 II (2008 - ) - C5 Impressions after four months. 3 Oct 2009 (Forum)
I bought a C5 station wagon 2.0 HDI auto at the beginning of June (in Spain). I've done 3,500 miles, a mixture of town driving and a number of 200 - 300 mile runs. I had a Renault 21 and a Laguna II, both petrol, before the C5 and can confidently say that the C5 is by far the quietest (from inside the car). -
BMW 5-Series E39 (1996 - 2003) - 1999 5.0 V8 M5 - Throttle Problems 8 Jul 2008 (Forum)
No one at BMW has ever encountered anything like this and I feel that they have lost all interest...BMW (Spain) also refuse to contact M division in Germany which I find a bit strange? I am desperate to find any answer; I love the car but have lost all faith in my local dealership. Is there anyone who has had anything like this before? -

BMW 3-Series E46 (1998 - 2005) - 02 3.0 Radio/Navigation 28 Aug 2009 (Forum)
Maybe these two occasional (up until today) faults are connected. Maybe my car just dislikes that it's raining in August and wants me to take it to spain or something, but failing that any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. -
Volkswagen Passat (1988 - 1997) - 1991 - rear brake drum back plate problem 28 Sep 2007 (Forum)
I have a 1991 VW Passat which just failed its ITV (MOT here in Spain) because of low reading for rear left brake and handbrake. The brake drum seems fine although a bit pitted (meaning maybe it hasn't been functioning properly for a while). The brake shoes are only slightly worn. -
Carbon Taxes 7 Aug 2006 (Forum)
Taxi to airport, low cost flight B to M, taxi to my hotel. or 2. Drive B to Channel, ferry across either to France or North Spain, drive from Calais or Bilbao to M. Apart from the 4 days travel involved in the drive my guess is that flying is way better for the b***** environment than driving my car! -
Are there any reliable LHD dealers? 6 Mar 2005 (Forum)
I am moving to Spain this year and have been trying to source a used LHD 4x4 in uk. I have almost been duped by one rogue dealer on the internet and I want to avoid this happening again. But the problem is, I dont know where to start looking. -
Discovery TD5 auto y2000 - brakes 11 Jan 2005 (Forum)
The car rarely travels more than 20 miles per day, at no more than 40mph (with annuual 2000 mile round trip[s to Spain) The brakes now need replacing, as the discs are grooved. I want to improve the stopping distance for the long trips, and the longevity of the discs. I have seen the Rossini product, and some enhanced brakes from Rimmer Bros. -
VW Scirocco hates the cold 13 Dec 2003 (Forum)
I tried putting a sheet of tin foil in front of the rad last winter to raise the running temperature and this seemed ok, but the spring arrived and I was never convinced that it had done the trick. I am now faced with two choices: get shot of the car or move to Spain... Any advice much appreciated!! Copey -

It begins "Having driven in many countries (England, Scotland, Belgium, Netherlands, USA - 8 states, France, Germany, Italy and Spain) I can honestly say that the Brits have the most appalling road manners I've ever seen" http://www.fabuloustravel.com/tips/ukdriving.html Tips for Americans who want to drive bad in the UK "Tip #10 Speed limits are given in miles per hour, not kilometers, although distances are given in kilometers " -
Has anyone heard of this before.....AJ Long Transport Services? 17 Feb 2019 (Forum)
Spent weeks trying to find something and finally spied a reliable and relatively new Japanese Estate with low mileage nearby. HPI clear so I emailed the guy and it turns out he is in Spain and a company in Manchester is storing and will ship the car once I have agreed a price and paid the owner. they then ship the car and I have three days to test it before accepting it and they get paid. -
"People carrier"- as opposed to...? 23 Sep 2016 (Forum)
"Able to transport people and/or luggage": Barring two-seaters, wowee, show me a car that doesn't do that! In Spain a legal quirk provides the category "Mixto" ("combination") for large vans and some cars like the Chrysler Voyager, which can be registered for the first four years as a "trade" vehicle (lower VAT and lower top speed, but six monthly MoT tests), regardless of numbers of seats or actual usage, and then re-classified. -
Renault Clio - Eldest daughter about to pass test (hopefully!) 21 Sep 2015 (Forum)
Hi. Eldest daughter is about to sit her driving test on Monday whilst we're in Spain. 2 questions: 1) The car is currently in our name but when she passes we will transfer ownership to her. If she passes is it just a case of her going on the DVLA website with the registration documents and recording that the car has been 'sold' to her and also completing our part recording the sale? -
Fiat Stilo Abarth Type 192 Variant BXD12 - Automatic gearbox problem 4 Apr 2015 (Forum)
I have a Fiat Stilo Abarth with driving wheel on the left (I live in Valencia, Spain). The car is great but for the automatic gearbox which my local official Fiat garage does not know how to fix. The car stops dead when I reduce speed from 5th gear, when I go over a bump, or tram-lines.
