Somewhat cheaper were a LHD 15,000 kilometre 03 reg BME Z4 2.5 manual, bid to £19,500, a 46k mile 99V Maserati 3200GT manual bid to £19,200, a 22k mile 2001Y Audi TT 180 quattro roadster sold for £16,800, and a 41k mile 94M Lincoln Town Car stretch limo bid to £5,000. Strangely, a SEAT Toledo V5, a Mitsubishi Carisma and an old 112k mile 97R BMW 318i were among some oddballs included in an ‘Executive’ section right in the middle of the Top Car sale, possibly for logistical reasons. -

The 1973 Lancia Fulvia 1.3S Coupe also deserved to exceed its estimate at £13,970 as did a very smart 2001 Maserati 3200GTA with fewer than 55,000 miles on the clock, which raised £14,300. In total, more than 190 classic cars and motorcycles went under the auctioneer’s hammer - 80% of which were sold for a total of £1.2m. -
Silverstone Classic to mark 50 years of Formula Ford 28 Nov 2016 (News)
Other races include the Royal Automobile Club Woodcote Trophy for pre-1956 Sportscars, the JET Super Touring Car Trophy; the Maserati Trophy for HGPCA pre-1966 Grand Prix Cars, and the recently announced HRDC Austin A35 Celebrity Race. The organisers have also announced the return of the Royal Automobile Club Tourist Trophy for Historic Cars (pre-1963 GT), Under 2-Litre Touring Cars and Formula Junior to next year’s race programme with more exciting races still to be announced. -
John Surtees made CBE in New Year’s Honours list 7 Jan 2016 (News)
He finished second in the 1966 Formula One World Championship driving two marques of car after his split from Ferrari and his joining the Cooper Maserati team. He won the prestigious inaugural Can-Am Sports Car Championship Series in America driving a Lola T70.A move to Honda followed for 1967 and with the RA 301 in which John played a large part in its development; he won the 1967 Italian Grand Prix at Monza. Surtees also enjoyed considerable success in prototype sportscars winning at circuits such as Sebring, Nurburgring and Monza. He gained a podium at the Le Mans 24 Hours in 1964. -

Among other cars on offer at the Bonhams Goodwood Festival of Speed auction is the 1954 Mercedes-Benz W196 in which five-times Formula 1 World Champion Juan Manuel Fangio won two grands prix on his way to his second World Drivers’ Championship. Other entries include the 1955 Maserati 300S Sports-Racing Spider that finished third in the 1955 Sebring 12-Hours (estimate: £3.5m-4.5m), a 1934 Alfa Romeo 8C-2300 ‘Le Mans’ Tourer (estimate £1.4m-1.8m), the 1965 Ferrari 330GT 2+2 Coupé bought by the Beatles’ John Lennon on the day he passed his driving test (estimate £180,000-220,000), and an example of the ultimate Ferrari from the 1960s – the 1966 Ferrari 500 Superfast – that is one of only six right-hand drive models made (estimate £800,000-1,000,000). -

November recall round up: Fires and hacking 1 Dec 2015 (News)
The Driver and Vehicle Standards agency (DVSA) announced more than a dozen vehicle safety recalls in November 2015 over fire risks, engine stalling, doors opening unintentionally and even potential unlawful hacking. Affected manufacturers include Bentley, Chrysler/Jeep, Porsche, Maserati and Mercedes-Benz. A large number of Mercedes-Benz models are affected this month. The GLA, CLA, SLK, A-Class, B-Class, C-Class, E-Class are all subject to a recall because the crankshaft may break, damaging the engine and potentially causing an accident. -

BCA and Manheim Report Strong Auction Results For Prestige Cars And 4x4s 7 Feb 2010 (News)
