  • Auto box - sport mode (Citroen C5) 8 Jan 2007 (Forum)
I have a C5 2.2 HDI automatic, which has a sport mode option on the gearbox. I can't remember ever using it before but I suspect that a recent software update has messed up the gearbox, so I tried it out yesterday. The gear changes do not take place until 4000 rpm, which seems ridiculous for a diesel.
  • HJ's insurance advice 10 Dec 2006 (Forum)
But in principle, it is possible for the insurance company to refuse a claim without the policyholder automatically having commited an offence? I For example, one insurance condition is that the vehicle is maintained in roadworthy condition. Does that mean that whenever a car is stopped in a police check and found to have say a faulty light or the wrong kind of child seat,, the driver is also prosecuted for driving without insurance?
  • What to buy 16 Nov 2006 (Forum)
I need another car but just don't know what to buy. My requirements are an automatic hatchback type car with a low boot sill and a flat boot floor as I need it to accomodate a small mobility scooter. I have a convertible SAAB 900 to sell (boo hoo) and to which I could add about £7/10,000 for the car.
  • Peugeot 806 your reviews please 16 Oct 2006 (Forum)
Done a price check on parkers and its come back at £5340 so not massively inflated, only bad point is its a automatic petrol engine, but on the other hand we dont do high enough miles to make it worth getting a diesel. Can anybody tell me what these are like on the motorway? Our current car (scenic 1.6 petrol) 75mph and the rev counters at 38,000 and it all gets a bit noisy, i want a car that will sit at 80 and you dont have to keep turning the radio up, talking to passengers.
  • 1.4 civic swap for? 8 Jul 2006 (Forum)
I have a Volvo v40 diesel in mind, and also a passat. Estate would be nice, as would multiple airbags and automatic transmission. Any suggestions for a vehicle around the £5k mark?
  • Nissan Sunny On 200 Cigs A Day.... 19 Jun 2006 (Forum)
Hi, mum has a 1992 (K) Nissan Sunny, 1600cc GLX Automatic. Visited her today and had look over it for her, I noticed smoke around the right-hand side of the engine.....on closer inspection I found the smoke was coming from under the air filter housing lid!!
  • volvo940 engine mangement system problem 10 Jun 2006 (Forum)
I drive a now somewhat elderly Volvo 940 automatic with 135000 up .1991 and H plate. It has started to get unexpectedly "Grumpy" with the engine management dash light coming on and the car surging, refusing to pull or rev over 2000 rpm ,then calming down and acting as normal after a while.
  • Clio P Reg - pls help 4 May 2006 (Forum)
Hi. I have a strange problem with my Clio 1.4 P reg car. It is automatic car and i think the problem is with the immobiliser. I can open the doors as normal but when i turn the key for the enginer to start nothing happens. - That is not the strange bit - ....... the strange think is, it works in the mornings but not in the evenings. 3 days in a row now first think it works but when i go to pick my husband up from work at 5pm, its not working again!!
  • Good deal? 21 Feb 2006 (Forum)
I'm traiding in a 51-plate automatic Jaguar x-type 2.5 Sport with metallic, leather seats, climate, heated front screen and real park assist. Great condition. Checking Glasses, What Car and Parkers I'm getting varying views on the p/x price - anywhere between 8k and 9.5k, it seems.
  • Audi A4 supplimentary heater 29 Nov 2005 (Forum)
Now I dont think my car has an auxiliary heater, but is it supposed to have the supplimentary heater which I believe is elecrically powered ? This is supposed to be automatic when the climate control is set to AUTO. If so I have detected no evidence of such a heater during the current spell of cold weather.
  • Features I'd like in a car 10 May 2005 (Forum)
Things I'd like to see on all cars: 1-foglights that turn off automatically after 10 minutes. 2-ditto indicators 3-seatbelts you cant trap in doors 4-light sensitive horns that deactivate during hours of darkness 5-speed governers you can set easily yourself 6-an extra button on your key remote that closes all the windows and sunroof 7-windscreen washers that give a spray, not a jet 8-door speakers that arent obscured by passengers legs etc 9-some way of demisting the side windows that actually work 10-front seats that you genuinely can fold flat Anyone care to add to the list?
  • CVH Extreme Idle Problem 26 Sep 2004 (Forum)
I am stumped as I have checked for inlet leaks, air leaks but everything seems ok. My understanding is that the idle spped is automatic and no adjustment is necessary. Any suggestions much appriciated. Many Thanks Steve

  • 180K Mercedes E240 W210 feasible? 2 Feb 2004 (Forum)
A friend will soon be selling his P reg E240 automatic saloon which he's had since it two years old.I've known the car since he's had it and it's in excellent condition with FMBSH. The only problem he's had was a new gearbox( at150K!).I would use the car mainly at weekends and only do about 6k a year hence I'm considering the car.I've read HJ's C by C breakdown and am aware from recent posts that the more recent Mercs do not appear as good as the older models and am concerned that the car could become a moneypit at this mileage.
  • Mondeo Noisy Drive Belt 16 Jan 2004 (Forum)
I finally norrows this down to the Aux Drive belt and decided that perhaps it was too tight but of course it has an automatic adjuster so there is no adjustment. the belt looks ok and is no problem in summer. but it's really noisy when cold. someone told me to put oil on it but i decided against as i would probaly end up with it sliping.
  • Glare & Sun Visors 9 Dec 2003 (Forum)
I began doing this when I drove in Zambia, where the sunlight is much brighter. Sometimes passengers automatically put the visor back up because they can?t see the sky. I tell them that I am only interested in what is down on the road, and that aeroplanes are a distraction.
  • Toyota Yaris or Nissan Micra 10 Nov 2003 (Forum)
Can anyone give some advice on the following. The Yaris seems to get the best reviews for small Automatic car, but at near £10K for the 3 dr 1.3 T Spirit, this is very steep. The new Nissan Micra 3dr 1.2S auto seems to have all the kit and can be purchased for £7660. Air con and alloys don't really bother me.
  • Which car for my parents? 18 Sep 2003 (Forum)
They would prefer to drive diesel (and it would suit their journey profile) and they would benefit from an automatic. They won't contemplate any kind of adventurous choice, so there's no point suggesting it. This is their second VW, they've had Volvos previously, so you get the picture. By my reckoning, they'll pull in £5-6k part ex on the Passat and they'd probably contemplate another £6-8k.
  • Trooper Front Hub 6 Jul 2003 (Forum)
Hi Folks, Has anyone done a 3.1 Trooper front brake disc change? I can't seem to get past the automatic diff lock assembly which, I surmise, hides a large nut which keeps the hub on the half-shaft splines. Or does it? Do I need a truck-size puller? The workshop manual for this vehicle costs £800.00.
  • Making a shortlist of compact autos 23 Feb 2003 (Forum)
I am looking for the following. £20K Maximum & Slowish depreciation. Semi-flash motor Reliability & good warranty Automatic (or better still tip-tronic) The cons are: I came to driving late and only have 1 year NCB so insurance group 14 is probably the max. I haven't got a garage so a ragtop convertable is out.
