The best is better than ever

I have always loved the Mondeo, having owned hatchback and estate versions of the mk3, mk4 and now the mk5.
From the moment I first saw the revised mk5 with its Aston Martin grille, I was determined to purchase Unfortunately it took a long time from its unveiling before it actually became available in the UK. Even now you can expect to wait up to 5 months for these vehicles, but having finally taken delivery, the wait was most certainly worth it.
From the moment you sit in the car and hear that reassuring thud from the closing drivers door, you sense that this is better than the previous models.
Seats are superbly comfortable and the quality of the materials and fit, are second to none.
Engine noise is very subdued even from cold. The 180ps diesel unit is very lively and carries on from the previous 163ps model with notable refinement.
Steering is very light, now being with electric assistance. I found it much better than the earlier hydraulic setup but very keen drivers might miss that feedback.
The gear change is quite slick, but then again, Ford have always known how to make a great manual gearbox.
The standard kit on the model I chose is quite amazing, leaving others in the shade. Great features like lane keeping assist, drift correction, alertness monitor, traffic sign recognition, cruise control and speed limiter, promote safer driving. I ordered park assist that facilitates self parking in both parallel and perpendicular modes. And now, the car will take you OUT of a tight spot, and not just get you into it
The electric parking brake is not to my liking though, and seems completely unnecessary. It works well, with hill start assist, but I will always prefer a conventional handbrake.
The LED lighting is superb, and automatically switches to main beam, and back to dipped. Auto wipers and headlights were standard too.
Although the car has an abundance of features, most can be controlled by voice through the superb SYNC2 system. This controls navigation, climate, phone, and audio. Stating that you're hungry pulls up a list of local restaurants, together with phone numbers. You can even book a table using that facility.
The car has, like previous Mondeos, a cavernous boot area. I have always found this to be over generous, but it's nice to have.
Very pleased with the car and a worthy successor to the previous model.
