Coronavirus: Halfords offers free car checks for all NHS frontline workers

Published 20 March 2020

Halfords is offering a free 10-point car check, available from today (20 March 2020) for NHS workers, including tyre inflation, screen wash and oil level, headlight and brake light inspections.

The service is available to all NHS frontline staff at most Halfords retail stores or Autocentres from today. The NHS is being pushed to breaking point as the number of Coronavirus cases in hospitals increases.

This follows news that letters are being sent to more than 65,000 retired doctors and nurses in the UK, asking them to return to the NHS to help tackle the outbreak. Key workers have also been told that their children would remain in schools, despite closures, in order to ensure NHS frontline staff could continue working in the hospitals.

To redeem the Halfords offer, which would normally cost £15,  NHS workers will just need to show their NHS Staff ID card to any member of staff at Halfords or Halfords Autocentres.

Halfords CEO Graham Stapleton said: "Now more than ever workers in the NHS need our help and support. Our research shows how vital their cars are in getting to and from work, so we want to do our bit and help the extraordinary healthcare workers who are doing an incredibly trying job at the most difficult of times."

In addition, motorists recovering at home and self-isolating because of COVID-19, can use Halfords’ garage on wheels services, Halfords Mobile Expert and Tyres On The Drive, where technicians can carry out car repairs and fittings outside their homes or on their drives without coming into contact with anyone.
