New Fiat Grizzly targets Vauxhall Frontera with petrol, hybrid and EV versions

  • Fiat Grizzly sits above Grande Panda in line-up
  • Two models available - Grizzly and Grizzly Fastback
  • Petrol, hybrid and electric versions all on sale later this year
  • Platform shared with Vauxhall Frontera and Citroen C3 Aircross

Fiat has shared the first images of the Fiat Grizzly and Fiat Grizzly Fastback, which will slot into the range above the recently released Fiat Grande Panda when they go on sale in the UK later this year.

Taking bear-related naming to new heights, the Fiat Grizzly is half a metre longer than the Grande Panda, at 4.5 metres, with Fiat claiming "exceptional interior space and a best-in-class boot capacity" in-keeping with the car's family transport market positioning.

The Fiat Grizzly will face keen competition, not least from the value-packed Vauxhall Frontera and Citroen C3 Aircross, which are built on the same Stellantis Smart Car platform.

2026 Fiat Grizzly price and release date

Fiat will confirm Grizzly prices closer to the release date. However, the firm has said that the new models will be positioned slightly differently.

The Fiat Grizzly is aimed squarely at families, described by the firm as "a versatile, spacious and approachable SUV." Meanwhile, the Fiat Grizzly Fastback is intended to offer a more dynamic and sophisticated spirit according to Fiat. All of which is marketing speak for the fact that the Fastback will probably cost more.

For reference, the Fiat Grande Panda starts at £18,995, or £20,995 for the electric version, and the Citroen C3 is priced similarly, so we'd expect the Grizzly to start at around £23,000 and the Fastback from £25,000.

2026 Fiat Grizzly styling, interior and technology

We haven't got much to go at yet, but the Grizzly's look is very much as you'd expect a larger take on a Grande Panda to be, with distinctive LED lights and a sense of safety and solidity given by the blocky wheelarches.

The Grizzly Fastback's sloping roof is in contrasting black, while the horizontal rear light bar and lower tailgate pressing make the car appear low and wide, despite relatively compact dimensions.

As for the interior of the Grizzly and Grizzly Fastback, that's pure guesswork for now, although Fiat did say that both cars have been designed "to elevate the in-car experience through refined interiors, attention to detail, and technologies designed to simplify everyday life."

Fiat set the bar high with the cabin of the Grande Panda, so expect the Grizzly to follow its lead with things like a focus on sustainability, and feature familiar tech like a 10.25-inch display and wireless phone charging.

2026 Fiat Grizzly engines, performance and fuel economy

Fiat has promised "a full powertrain offer, from petrol to BEV." As both Grizzly models are built on the Stellantis Smart Car platform, a choice of 1.2 petrols and standard and long range electric models are likely.

2026 Fiat Grizzly trim levels

Trim levels will be confirmed later this year. The Grande Panda features three trims - Pop, Icon and La Prima - which seems like a fair bet to expect similar for the Grizzly, while the Fastback gets slightly higher-spec equipment to reflect its range-topping positioning.

What small family car for under £18k do you suggest?

I am looking for a small family hatchback or compact SUV under £18k. I currently drive a 2016 plate VW Golf but would like something newer (around 3 years old or less so it includes warranty). Ideally boot space to be similar (380 litres) and have similar performance as the 1.4 TSI 125bhp. I don't have a drive so not interested in fully electric or plug-in hybrid but I would be interested in a self charging hybrid as well as a petrol.
If you are happy with your Golf then the most obvious alternative would be a newer example, or its SUV equivalent, the T-Roc. Your budget would get you a 2022 or 2023 T-Roc with either the 1.0-litre or 1.5-litre TSI engine and low mileage, although there is no full hybrid version available. If you were looking specifically for a hybrid, we would suggest looking at alternatives like the Nissan Qashqai or Kia Niro.
