Peugeot 205 - ignition ballast changing - Johnnn

Hi chaps, first message so here goes...

So....the key wouldn't go in to the ignition...and then got snapped off. I've got a new ignition ballast in the post today (£50) and am off to fit it tomorrow.

However...the steering lock is on. I imagine they've thought about this & it's quite hard to removed the ballast assembly when the steering lock is on? I've had a dig on the internet but am unable to turn anything up which might be helpful. Haynes has nothing helpful to add either.

Anyone have any experience with the & any suggestions of where to look please?

By 'ignition ballast' do you mean the resistor in series with the ignition coil? If so all you have to do is disconnect the battery. If you leave the ignition switched on you wil flatten your battery and possibly burn the coil out - or the ballast resistor.

He means Barrel, you can not break a car key off in the ballast resistor. Regards Peter
