00 1.9 Poorly engine - batman
I think my engine is kapput

The starter is spinning the engine one side but the crank pully isnt rotating on the opposite side and the cambelt isnt turning. The engine is a 1.9 td on a year 2000

The crank pully looks like it wobbles slightly when i turn the key, but it doesnt rotate.

Duff starter gear or flyweel gear ring is stripped. Regards Peter

i dont think so as the starter tries to jerk the van forward when in gear

I somehow doubt the crank has snapped just inside the engine. Did this go wrong whilst driving or when starting. If the starter ring has cracked it would spin on the fly wheel but still tug on the flywheel and nudge the gearbox. The starter need to come out. Simple test. put the car ingear hand brake off and turn the front pulley with a spanner or socket. if the car moves then it is not a crank failure. Regards Peter

Is the crankshaft turning inside the pully? If not its broken I'm afraid

Don't they have a Keyed Pully, it might be simply the woodruff key has snapped and it's turning inside the pully as Peter N says (just trying to be optimistic),if it's not an interference engine then the valves will also be OK.
