Don't all rush now but can someone tell me what
-it is
-it does
-it is called that for.
My classical education paid due deference to Latin but I'm afraid I missed out on Greek.

Lambda Valve?
Don't you mean Lambda sensor?

Hello Growler.
This explanation could produce a thread two miles long, so might I suggest that you go to then click on "Oxygen sensors" and have a read.
Rgds, Pete.

Growler,
The Lamda SENSOR fits in the exhaust and helps to keep the engine managment system in order. It helps to control the injection, timing etc. Have a look at www.ngk.co.uk/products/lambdafit.htm

The lambda goes hand in hand with the catalyser as it feeds back to the ECU to prevent overly rich/lean burns from damaging the CAT.
Methinks that without the CAT we would have no Lambda's. They are also a total b*stard on some cars if they send out wrong readings as it seems the engine will kotow to them and run like a dog. (Incidently damaging the CAT in the first place - oh the irony).

Thanks, all. I used the term verbatim because that's what my local mechanic called it. I am now a bit the wiser and, as I can tell, shortly to be out of pocket.
