Thanks, but I already have one. It's called a rear view mirror and a pair of eyes :o)

That's what I need - a rear view mirror and a pair of eyes that can see over the back of my truck and then downwards to where the tow bar is.

However, I'll probably be better off buying a reversing aid of some sort.

In the past I've found one of those optical lens things quite effective.
I've considered putting one on the estate as the bottom of the tailgate window is fairly high and you can't see the bonnet/bumper of the vehicle behind when reversing and the "back until it goes bump" technique tends to lose you friends quite quickly - can't understand why!

Has anyone tried the Halfords type (use for estates)??

Can't remember the make, but Makro had one for UKP20 last year. Two ultrasonic sensors, and a box with 'traffic lights' and a beeper.
Easy to fit on a VW passat saloon, as I mounted the box (with velcro) on the parcel shelf so it's visible in the rear view mirror!
Sensors attach using adhesive pads (or screws if you want to mount them on a plastic bumper) and it was easy to route the cabling through the boot lid. Now means that I can park in spaces I wouldn't previously have considered 'cos the Passat has a very high bootline, restricting view.
IMHO a wothwhile buy.

I have tried both Halfords type on a Previa. the best is a small magnifying "glass" which you can angle vertically as it fixes proud of the slanting rear screen, bit children etc knock it off. The larger one which is stuck on the screen does not work well UNLESS the rear screen is flat and vertical.
The best must be a "wing" mirror angled downwards and fixed on the outside as fitted to some imported Jap MPVs. That gives a full view (convex glass) and lets you see the single metal pole sticking up, or the hole you are about to drop into whereas the electronic ones don't.

Many thanks Richard, it was the big one that had been recommended
but I have a sloping screen, so will save my money
