Buy something that you can insure-otherwise 2k. will be needed to insure a 1k. car.

Have you thought about a "Classic car" ? the insurance is about 20% what you would otherwise pay, provided you have access to another car that is, go for something relatively simple like a beetle or an MG or even a mini, and you can maintain it yourself. you will not lose out on depreciation either...
If you are set on a punto, make sure it hasn't been thrashed or modified in any way, consider a good Peugeot 306 D turbo its quicker and more satisfying to drive and insurance is only group 5
Good luck !

If you were to spend 3k. on an MG;you'd spend the rest of your life chasing corrosion round and round in circles.

In yellow? Are you sure? Do you REALLY want to draw attention to yourself from the local Constabulary?
(Been there, done that)

Insurance will be the killer here unless you are on parents insurance, which isn't good for future years when you have to insure something yourself (Lack of NCB)

And if you lie to the insurance company claming not to be the "main user" they'll get you one day.If you have an accident or other serious claim(the accident may not be your fault) and you're not within a reasonable distance of parent's they wonder why you've got the car.You may have an answer.

"He could have bought it well before 11.00 and, depending where he lives, been home in time for the match"
Nice scenario there HJ :)

If you can't stretch to a Sporting to start off with, try a Punto 85 16v SX or ELX - you can probably get a very late T / V reg 3 door for peanuts. Unfortunately you can't get the ELX/SX in Broom yellow (I like that colour too). If you're set on a Fiat, Bravos are extremely cheap (around £3k for a really good example on P-plate) these days and are a lot of car for the money, provided they have been maintained and looked after properly. They are excellent to drive too. If you want something smaller, the Seicento is a little cracker and prices for those start at under £3k.
If you do plump for a Punto Sporting though, dont buy pre-1997 (post P-reg) - they have the aged 1.6 engine and are far from sporting. The 1.2 16v is far, far superior.

Paul
