The offside front wheel on my P reg Laguna estate has developed a squeak on cornering which is now accompanied by an extremely hot wheel after approx 30 miles.Any ideas please?

Either the brake is sticking or most likely the wheel bearing is on its way out.
|
As it's a Renfault, if it's anything like a Clio then the wheel bearing is a pretty likely cause.

Thanks for your replies.Andrew liked the Renfault pun, but i have to say in 25,000 miles, apart from the fuel tank strap breaking the car has been very reliable, but as it is nearly eight years old and done 80,000 it might be time to say goodbye.

This has turned out to be a brake caliper sticking. Is this a garage job or one i could do myself.Any advice appreciated.

I don't want to worry you but my Mondeo suffered the same problem last month see current note under "Mondeo Pig in a Poke" and the brakes caught fire on the M27 having pointed out the problem of a hot hub to the main agent at the preceeding service who said they had dealt with the matter.Personally I leave brakes to the pro's as a form of insurance if ever involved in an accident (despite my experience above I might add!)

When you say caliper sticking. do you mean piston stick or caliper sliders. usualy the sliders stick as dust gets past the rubber dust covers. they are not difficult to clean up and re grease. copperslip or similar will do it and that should cure the problem. If piston prob would suggest replacement of both calipers
