Fiesta 1.25 zetec 1998 Rings - kyle richmond
Does anyone know how easy it is to replace the piston rings on this car due to clattering and smoke,will the crank and pistons come out without taking the engine out, can anyone give me any info about this process on this car

Haynes says do not remove crankshaft on Zetex SE engines as special tools are needed for reassembly.


Other than that looks a normal type of (engine out) job:-)

Sounds bad - Zetec 1.25 smoking and clattering?
Has it done mega miles or missed services?
I would read the Haynes book carefully as there is some mention about letting the crankshaft free and special tools.
Perhaps it can be done from below with sump off and releasing con rods?
Good luck.
Have you thought of exhange or an engine swap from crashed Fiesta? May be easier?

These engines seem to be sensitive to regular oil changes. The independent workshop I take my MOT's to have replaced two Fiesta engines in the last 12 months both having had little regular maintenance. You cannot do the job without taking the head off as the pistons have to be loaded from the top but it isnt a DIY job anyway. Exchange engine from a reputable source the best bet.
