Mercedes-Benz A-Class Saloon - Tyre stuck on alloy wheel - HonestDan

Am I ever going to get this tyre off this rim? It's been cut right through, pretty much, but it's not moving.

All the solutions online are for when there's an intact tyre on the alloy still, using a jack etc.

Thanks for any advice

How about trying a tyre fitter. Plenty around. They have all the kit. Will also fit you a new tyre.

Looking at those pictures, I can't see the machine tyre fitters use getting a purchase on the little bit of remaining tyre. The "blade" (don't know what it's actually called) will slip off.

It's the steel cable inside the tyre bead that is holding the remainder of the tyre on to the wheel.

You have to cut through the steel cable in the tyre bead to release the tyre from the rim. without damaging the rim sealing surface.

I've had to do this a couple of times with old tubeless motorcycle wheels and tyres.

Not easy.-I remember using a Dremel with a very small cutting disc to get through the steel cable in the bead.

If you damage the tyre bead sealing surface of the rim, you will need to have the rim TIG welded and machined by an alloy wheel specialist.

If you damage the tyre bead sealing surface of the rim, you will need to have the rim TIG welded and machined by an alloy wheel specialist.

Slow setting epoxy (or other sealants like RTV or superglue with filler) should work for that, if you are just talking about restoring the sealing surface, and the rim isn't significantly weakened..
