Mazda claim that Skyactiv-X is cleaner "well-to-wheel" that electrics, which is probably true - but ignores electric generation from non-oil power stations.
Mazda HCCI will do well in America but is a dead end in Europe.

I don't see why. It will appeal because (a) it's even more economical and cleaner than present petrol engines and (b) it's not a diesel.
If you cover no more than 100 miles per day and have easy access to a charging point at home or work, then an EV is ideal for you.
