I'm really confused about what type of car to go for next. I'm concerned for the environment so was thinking along the lines of a hybrid but hearing good & bad things about them & running costs, and doubt I can get much within my budget (£10-12K) so will this force me back to petrol?
I do about 10-15K miles here and little or no urban driving. I work a lot on farmland (think muddy tracks in winter) so 4WD useful but not so if too pricey, but high ground clearance a must. I need reliability and affordable running costs; not bothered on brand, anything that holds value an advantage. Power-wise something intermediate, perhaps.... Read more

Parking Vultures, in Scotland, cannot enforce their invoices - they do not know who is driving if you do not tell them. They cannot go to court as they have no name - assuming you did not tell them.
I received roughly 5 threats of invoices in the last 6 months - the last one stating they would take action via a County Court (we do not have County Courts in Scotland) and, as they do not have the driver's details they cannot take anyone to any court....
Any comments on how an ev can die through lack of use and how you guys get over leaving it parked up for a length of time rg at an airport whilst you are on holiday . Read more

Hello guys, first post here.
We just bought a 2hnd 2021 VW Golf, Gill's first car in a decade. It has Apple CarPlay, which neither of us has used before. Gill has a well-used iPhone 7 on iOS 15.1. She wants to use CarPlay to play music from her phone, but so far no joy.... Read more
I’m sceptical of VW’s response.
The first thing I’d be doing is diving into the menu of the car’s screen and performing a factory reset. Take it back to the default setting with which it came out of the factory.
Then I’d be trying a considerably newer iPhone, using your Apple supplied cable.
Our Nissan Note is now 15 years old and the breakdown cover provider we currently use (Eversure) does not provide cover for cars older than this.
I'm wondering if anyone can suggest a company that would cover a car of this age? We do have another car which is just 5 years old so a policy which covers both cars would be ideal or maybe one providing personal cover.... Read more
Green Flag cover up to 16yrs old, weirdly they do up to 25yrs if you take out European cover. I’ve always found them good value. Touch wood, I’ve not broken down in a car since 1996 though so I can’t vouch for their actual service.
New tax laws coming into force from 1 April will deal a big blow to the small business owners that rely on these dual purpose vehicles which they can use for business and pleasure .

So if you are say a small time builder. You need family transport and a work vehicle. The dual cab pick up can do both in one vehicle. Now you'll need to buy two vehicles? Very green I'm sure.
If any small time builders actually did that or could afford to buy one of these, you would have a good point.
Why are HGV's allowed in the 3rd lane of a four lane motorway? Once HGV start going three abreast, four lanes become pointless. Lorries overtaking in lane 2 are bad enough but lane 3? Read more
As has been said many times, lorries creeping past others is bad enough on a three lane road, lorries doing the same three abreast just seems stupid. Obviously the price we have to pay for our consumer habits.
And the price drivers have to pay for laws put into place to stop lorries being able to overtake each other quickly.

I have a similar situation and drive a Suzuki Vitara. There are plenty around and the Allgrip is 4wd with selectable modes.
