Nissan Note - Breakdown cover for older car - crowncd

Our Nissan Note is now 15 years old and the breakdown cover provider we currently use (Eversure) does not provide cover for cars older than this.

I'm wondering if anyone can suggest a company that would cover a car of this age? We do have another car which is just 5 years old so a policy which covers both cars would be ideal or maybe one providing personal cover.

Many thanks in anticipation of some advice.

I used to use rescuemycar.com when I had an older car. I don't know if they still cover them, but they were fine when I needed to call them.

We have Europe wide breakdown cover through our Nationwide Flex plus joint bank account + travel & mobile insurance that covers both our cars including a 2006 Panda We also both have personal cover. I don't think there is a car age limit.

I use startrescue.co.uk on my aged 2007 Focus for UK cover. I do not know what they are like, I have never need them (tempting fate now...)

For non-UK cover just be aware any repatriation will be up to the value of the car only (at least in all the policies I've seen)

Was previously with autoaid for many years, but they've added a surcharge of IIRC £25 for older car and if you happen to breakdown another £25 to the breakdwon people at the time, hence ditched them last year.

Went with Start Rescue as recommended here, got an introductory discount via MoneySavingExpert, which i believe is still valid.

This year i've gone with RAC, again on introductory discount, looks like when we do the annual car insurance comparison lark we'll be doing the same with Breakdown cover too.

Haven't used any of the above so can't comment on how good or bad they might be, none of them seem to have any trouble taking the premium.

We keep considering startrescue.co.uk especially as it does cover an older car (for a premium) and our new car can be covered throughout Europe - that lot comes to about £149. The one thing missing if you go down the route that gives you Europe cover is personal cover which I also like especially when Mrs BJ goes out in a friends car, one of who I know doesn't have any breakdown cover.

The Nationwide cover is less of the bargain it used to be though after the monthly cost went up from £13 to £18 - £216 year. That effectively leaves £67 for Worldwide travel insurance for two of us and mobile phone cover.

I'll reevaluate when we engage re recent and now pre existing health conditions.

Like BJ I am with Start Rescue. We have two younger cars so it’s “car based” rather than “personal”, which would be about 50% more. Whenever renewal comes up I shop around and have never found a better deal balancing or use with reported service - I’ve never called them out.

I suggest the OP shops around with car based v personal cover. I suspect that personal cover will work out cheaper but only by using real car data and cover needs will it be clear. However a quick look at the Start site doesn’t appear to offer cover personal cover outside U.K. That might be more difficult to find. I am not sure that the OP needs European cover though.

It’s a wider issue but I am bemused that someone would travel abroad without a basic breakdown and recovery policy unless they have deep pockets. A friend’s car broke down big time near his holiday home in France, requiring a hire car and recovery to U.K. A rare but expensive event that his breakdown service covered.

Thanks to everyone who has replied so far. I'll do some research on your suggestions.

We don't travel out side the UK but always include 'Home Start' in any cover we have.

Once again, many thanks.

It’s a vote for Start from me too.

Both cars well over 10 years old , one 21 and had the occasion to call for their services .Very impressed .

Ive heard that the sudden flood of bank customers entitled to recovery services has overwhelmed the companies as they struggle to recruit technicians .

Green Flag cover up to 16yrs old, weirdly they do up to 25yrs if you take out European cover. I’ve always found them good value. Touch wood, I’ve not broken down in a car since 1996 though so I can’t vouch for their actual service.
