I have noticed in the past few days when phoning for information that my call to a dealership is routed through a call centre where i have to explain what i want, then get put through to a dealer, then get put through to sales, each time explaining..
A while back when my neighbour had his fuel pump go and had the same palaver to get through to the service dept. Read more
So I go on well known comparison site to get quotes for my wife’s car and the cheapest is £160. I then check the information and as she’s now retired, her mileage has reduced and she doesn’t need insurance to get to work and back. I change the inputs to reflect the above, press ‘get quotes’ and the cheapest is now £190! How does that work?! Read more
With LV owned by Allianz and also Flow . Similarly Direct line owning Churchill and underwriting Tesco , is there any point in getting multiple quotes or will they all be the same ?
As per the other thread DL don't appear on comparison sites, DL have their own website.
Interested what people think of these smart two seaters ?

My vote would be the SLK. I was looking at the same 3 cars a few years ago.
SLK prices have dropped a lot recently, so you'll easily bag a bargain. And they're hardly the car of a boy racer, so won't have been "thrashed" like one on here has claimed. Many owners keep them as garaged weekend Summer-only cars....
Local news this morning are featuring a Tesla Cybertruck being seized by the police in north Manchester as it doesn’t meet UK safety standards.
Presumably the driver thought they’d circumvent the law by registering and insuring it abroad whilst being a UK resident. That’s also illegal, apparently.

Isn't that a good thing that police seized it as Cyber truck can't be sold in EU due to valid safety concern?

Wondering whether a KIA Venga / Hyundai ix20 1.6 petrol auto [6 speed version from 2015/16] in the mid-upper middle spec but shod on sensible 205/55 R16 tyres might be worth a look?
Not the most economical car, though an improvement on the previous 4speed auto box version, and it makes good use of the car's footprint for interior/boot space, though the latter (400L or so) is high rather than long, so not sure if it would be good for a large dog to be in....
Hi,
My bulletproof 2007 Kia Ceed 1.6 Auto Petrol is getting on a bit and I'm exploring "new" cars. I want one with cheap road tax (under £35), as a I don't drive very often (2k to 3k a year). It needs to be around the same cargo size as my Ceed. Ideal for upto two kids in the future. Because I don't drive often, I'm ruling out out hybrids as I'm worried I'll damage the battery by not driving it. It has to be reliable, especially the gearbox (TC or CVT). I want a car I can keep for as long as I can, that'll never sell. Diesels are out of the question. Here's what I've narrowed it down to: (Engine sizes are a must due to cheaper road tax.)... Take a good drive in the Mk II Jazz CVT before committing. They’re a very cleverly designed and to me a handsome little car, but they’re not particularly nice to drive in my opinion. A Mazda 2 or a Suzuki Swift will offer much more joy to an enthusiastic driver. Not saying they’re bad cars, they’re just not fun like most small front wheel drive hatchbacks. The Mk III is a bit softer riding and nicer to drive in general in my opinion. But as with all small autos they’re commanding insane prices these days, far more than an equivalent manual.
In Spain, it will soon become mandatory to have an emergency beacon in your car.
The new V16 emergency beacon must be placed on the vehicle to warn other drivers of an accident or incident.... Read more
What if your car already has an SOS button fitted? Still need one? Rather overkill isn't it?
Wonder how we ever survived before we had all this technology to baby us....

I’ve acquired my last two cars on PCP to secure the dealer contribution then paid the balance off after a couple of months to avoid the daft interest charges that they levy.

Hi - hope the forum can help with this. Will take a while to explain, so my apologies...
I received a NIP last month for speeding at the end of November 2024. The offence was: "Exceed 30 mph speed limit in contravention of a Local Traffic Order - manned equipment". I was doing 35mph in a 30mph, so no complaints and will take it on the chin as a fixed penalty with a £100 fine and 3 points.... Read more
My policy requires me to inform my insurer when I renew if I or any driver on my policy have had any motoring convictions or endorsements during the period of insurance. As it happens, the NIP arrived about a month before my renewal date anyway.
Because I'd informed them of the conviction prior to renewal (for which, no admin charge at this point), I was worried that the delay in it appearing on my driving record online would lead to the insurer treating it as a policy change when the DVLA did update its record. I now know this will only take effect for my insurer when I next renew....
