Hi,
My Daughter tells me that a couple of dashboard lights came on today and as her User Manuel is in French she cannot tell me which ones they are. However I think that one is the coil light and she says the other light is on top of this one ( square box with zigzag inside )
Any ideas? Kind regards - JB Read more
Just before Xmas the Fullchat household moved into the 21st century and had Sky TV installed. Freeview struggles round here at times.
Anyway I've found all these car restoration/building programmes such as The Garage and Wrecks to Riches. The American ones even manage to be interesting! They are more up my street having a mechanical bent to them.
The problem is that these programmes don't start until late and continue into the small hours. Mrs FC is getting annoyed at me waking her up getting into bed in the small hours and I need some sleep !!! (No connection between the two I hasten to add :-) ).
Recording is not an option. Is anyone else suffering the same addiction? Please help.

How many tuners does your device have then???
It is PC based and has 3 dual Freeview DVB-T boards. This is enough to tune into all 6 MUX's that are broadcast and the (free) software allows recording of multiple channels that are on the same mux (per tuner). Then there is an analogue tuner that receives and controls the Sky box. Lastly a dual DVB-S satellite tuner for Freesat.
Playback uses small media extenders at each TV and can view in-progress recordings, time shifted live TV, other recordings, etc etc.
motoring link. I see it found and recorded a couple more Traffic Cops shows in the last couple of days.
Stepson just got a tidy Accent GDX with 80,000 on the clock: took it to my trusted indie for an oil/filter/cambelt change, test driving it the ABS triggered with light braking. I had the same unexpected ABS operation a couple of days ago, no ABS warning light and the brakes work fine (plenty of pad and good discs) so it is a bit of a puzzle.
Is this likely to be an electronic fault (bad connection?) or some issue with the ABS hardware (toothed rings/pickups).
Am I right in thinking ABS systems fail safe so it is not a safety issue?

Hyundai's do suffer from abs ring problems-usually a hairline crack in the ring.

hi
most likely the engine stabilser at the bottom below the alternator belt. not realy a engine mount.
Had a few problems recently see previous threads. Had the top threaded core plugs resealed due to water leaks. Had a mis-fire (engine management light flashing), replaced spark plugs, leads and coils. Car seemed to run better - no mis-fire. The only issue now is that when asking the car to accelerate it gives a slight hesitation then accelerates. There is no engine management light flashing and it does not happen all the time. Have had the car to Ford for a service and paid for it to be tested on the engine analyser, only comment was that the "PCM needed calibrating" which was done as part of the analyser charge. This still has not fixed the problem, before I go back to Ford has anyone got any ideas. Read more
Just a thought-does this engine have a cable operated throttle or a 'drive by wire' type?
What products do you guys recommend for rust proofing my metal power steering pipes?
My power steering pipes corroded causing a leak. New ones are £156+VAT and £80+VAT, so i've sourced some second hand ones.
They have arrived and are in good order, bar bit of flaking paint and surface rust in places. I want to rust proof them but dont know what to use.
I am going to:
1. 'Gunk' them to remove oil
2. Sand the flaking paint and surface rust
3 >>>This is where you guys come in<<<

Used to use a "very heavy" Zinc-based paint on my boat trailer which was immersed (often completely) in the sea regularly (four times every week-end). After every season i would repaint it, and the most corrosion it ever showed were a few rust stains from steel nuts and bolts. The boat and trailer also lived outside all year round for 11 years whilst i had it. The paint was called "Galvafroid" - bit dearer than usual rust proofing stuff, but i definately can recommend it!

Is there a problem with Logging In again?
Usually it's just a matter of clicking "log in", but for the past few days I have had to keep entering my details, and there is no indication of "new" posts. This has coincided with using the New Internet Explorer 8 Beta. Could it be this, perhaps?

I have un-installed IE 8, and am back on 7, and all is well.
I had previously deleted the cookies, and then logged on, and it was fine next time. However, at the next log on I had to go through the routine of entering everything instead of just logging on. Perhaps it was IE 8.
Bought this November 07 and all was well untill Feb 08 when it got cold. Starting from cold was very rough, only running on 3 for a few seconds. Under warrenty a new set of glow plugs were fitted. This happened at about the same time as the weather got warmer. All ok untill it got cold again in November 08. Same problem. Another set of glow plugs were fitted. Still the same. Since then the garage has fitted, a `Mass air temp: sensor` and then a new loom in the cylinder head which goes to the injectors. If anything it is getting worse. It now bad at any temp: The garage seems to have given up and next week it is going into a diesel specialist. I have allready spoken the this place and I dont think they have any clues either. Any help would be much appreciated.

Or is that a dirty word on this site.
I had the pleasure of driving a GS450h the other day and was amazed at the acceleration and turn of speed for overtaking - I am guessing that the electric motor pleyed the biggest part in generating so much torque. The other surprising thing was the near silence and refinement. After playing around I decided to do a short trip (5 miles or so) driving sensibly and not tearing about and got 48mpg.
Are there any other posters with experience of driving hybrids as I do like the look of the new Honda Insight as well.
PS - I am anti diesel so please no lectures on real world economy - I don't like the noise, the smell and the problems that come with them in turns of reliability.
Once a maker starts offering 8 year warranties for the complicated CR systems like Toyota and Honda do for their hybrid systems then I might be interested. Read more
I did do a side by side comparison of the GS450h and the GS300 and your spot on boxsterboy - the boot was tiny in the hybrid which is unacceptable really - I think you would certainly struggle if you wanted a enough space for a weekend away - never mind a holiday.
On the subject of LS's I have a friend who wrote off a nearly new LS - this was a few years back now - he is disabled and drives an automatic. When his Corolla was in for a service he always requested an automatic courtesy car. They did not have one to offer but being a Toyota/Lexus dealership they always aim to please and so gave him the dealer principle's LS430. Anyway he was driving his friends back to the dealer in the afternoon when it was getting a bit icy and floored it off a raised island, spun it and stuck it down an embankment. Everyone was OK and the traffic cop who initially thought it was stolen when he saw who came out of the car was in hysterics when he phoned the dealer to tell them what happened. Every year now when he takes is Toyota in for a service the staff love winding him up about it.

Its not a well puppy. There are fault codes logged on the engine controller relating to an emission problem which need downloading with a suitable scanner to try and establish whats ails it. Find a recommended independant to do this for you sooner rather than later..
