I just got myself a Corsa to learn to drive in but there are a number of problems i would be very grateful with some help with them. the problems are
1. Deep scratches on bodywork - i think someone keyed it a few times
2. Bumpers are a greyish colour - i was wondering if back to black would sort that out
3. rusty bubbled paint around the screen wash nozzles the bonnet.
if you have any ideas on how to solve any of this problems i would be thankful

Strangest thing in the supermarket carpark last night. A Renault MPV was parked up with a web cam (looked like a logitech 'ball' type) bolted to the dash pointing at the driver seat. Is this the next - all be it alittle rought with this example of the next type of in-car security we can expect? Or do the owners have a realtime blog somewhere?
Anybody else seen this type of weird? Read more

Was anyone else in the largely gridlocked capital last night?
Something seemed to have happened in the King's Cross area that caused hideous gridlock for a mile or so in every direction. And Westbound, the Marylebone Road has suffered for years from hideous evening delays apparently linked to the traffic lights.
Apart from the road works and other excavations and diversions caused by the still uncompleted Channel Tunnel terminal, the delays were of course exacerbated by the systematic attempts that have been made in recent years to sabotage and hamper traffic flow in London. To be in the middle of one of these modern jams, with people desperately trying to find rat-runs that no longer exist, is a truly depressing experience. Even the sight of a lot of cyclists - it must be tempting to become one if you can be bothered - did nothing to lift the spirits. And the car traffic was behaving in a very depressed way, like a million St John's Wood Mercedes drivers. Read more
Yes normd2. In the sixties and seventies, when traffic volumes were lower than they are now, local authorities and road contractors made great efforts to keep roads open at busy times, doing the real work at night and on Sunday mornings etc.
These days they don't seem to care at all. Just look at the huge cages surrounding small holes in the road and a wheelbarrow or two, sometimes for weeks at a time, in main London roads, with or without vile temporary traffic lights.
If I were a Conservative politician, even Boris Johnson, I would concentrate on this matter as well as being greeny-weeny about big fat rich people's motors.
Any idea why my sister's 2000 Ford Ka is very reluctant to change gear -particularly between 4th and 5th. It takes a mighty shove to make it change. Any ideas?

dab some paint on the uj and the bar that goes into the gearbox so that you know where to realign it to
undo the 13mm nut and bolt
pull back the uj to free it
see if its seized in any direction,
squirt wd or similar to unfree it
job should be done
im assuming the gears go alright so its not a dragging clutch by the way

I've found the problem it was an air leak. The convoluted plastic pipe from the cam cover to the main inlet pipe was split. Thanks for your help
I know I am a little behind the posting here, but I hope someone notices...lol
I have the same leak, have looked at where you recommend to seal up but can't get into it, it is under my pollen filter (which is old, dry and full of crap) and only leaves me a couple of inches to get through.
Any tips on how to reach the rubber seal to get the silicon to it?
Also, my 98 fiesta is getting very low economy no. When I got it last spring I got 420-440 miles per tank, now it's 320.
I have had 2 new air filters in 12 months, I have done an oil change (and flushed the system with a cleaner), fitted a new seal to the oil sump (as it was leaking) and used red paste to help with the seal. I keep the tyres inflated to 32psi.
For a while it was ok on motorway trips and bad around town, but now it just seems to be bad everywhere!
Any tips on what could be causing it?
Over the last four or five weeks I also have a new problem where if I get the engine warm and then turn it off it won't restart until it has cooled down. It just turns over as if it's flooded.
thanks in advance for help.

Cheers for the tips on the starting problem, I will look into a local deisel garage, see what I can find.
Any ideas on the economy??
Does anyone know who is doing deals on oil changes at the moment?
Now before anyone jumps in and says do it yourself, yes,I am capable of doing so,and have done many times in the past, but I want to get my book stamped on my Berlingo van, hence the question.
I have rung National tyres, and I think Dick Turpin answered the phone, because they quoted me £30,and then an extra £10 if it had an under tray!!!!!! I don't think so.

So, after doing some research into the custs of keeping my car and running it, compared to the costs of getting a company car, the difference is quite small, and for the simplicity of someone else taking care of everything for me, I think I'm going to get the company car.
So, I was hoping for some advice from all you lovely people! I need to get something that is enjoyable to drive, but also comfortable over long distances. I would love a 3 series, but due to my band, its out of the question unless I buy it myself.
So, the cars I'm contemplating are:
BMW 120d SE
Audi A3 Diesel Sportback 2.0 TDI 170 S Line 5dr
Mini Cooper S Hatchback 1.6 3dr (Chilli Pack)
Seat Leon Diesel Hatchback 2.0 16v TDI FR 5dr
Does anyone have any advice on these? Pros? Cons? Tips about some of the additional features? Are there any others you would recommend looking at?
Another thing that confuses me is this - what is the difference between the 120d ES, SE, and M Sport? Does the M Sport come kitted out with leather seats etc? Read more
Dizz, I've got a 120d Sport (M Sport wasnt an option at the Time).
ES = Basic Spec/Wheels etc, SE = Better Spec, trim, more kit etc, M sport comes with Body kit, wheels, sports suspension and some more kit than ES.
I highly recommend that you test the different the wheel/suspension combinations as it makes a huge difference, although I believe the facelifted models are better allround with the Runflats.
If affordability is an issue I'd agree with HJ, however if driving pleasure is more important go for the 120d (Ps if you can stretch to the 123d this should be stunning).
My Co car is up for renewal and I would have another 1 in a second, unfortunately I'm moving and need to use the money elsewhere :-(
