I drive 2 common rail diesels and wonder if I should keep up the practice of adding a "water treatment" at the end of each winter. I have noticed that the same company makes a dry fuel additive and a cleaner which claims to "demulsify" the fuel to allow the separator to work better. Which if any would work with this sort of engine or should I just do nothing and use only top grade fuel and empty the water trap on the filter every three months?

Bow Wow is a kiddie rapper. I'm surprised he's old enough to drive. He was at one time the prodigy of Snoop Doggity Dogg, hence the canine reference in his name.

Wyclef Jean was in the Fugees. His contribution seemed to be saying "one time" at inappropriate moments during their songs.

Engine noises on 51 corsa c (uk)?
when the engine has warmed up , there is a strange noise which seems to be coming from the offside of the engine. When i switch it off it makes a grrr noise. If anybody has had a similar experience or knows what the noise is, any info would be appreciated or if anybody knows of any uk recalls. i suspect it could be the timing chain but i'm not sure

Complete interiors...

Not unknown - I once priced up an estimate for a repairer on a MK2 golf complete leather interior which had been stolen - it wrote a brand new vehicle off - IIRC parts came to over £10k.>> >> so headlights are going to be the >>

My wife was surprised that no reminder for her road fund licence has been received, as her tax expires at the end of the month. I told her she can retax it online and went to work.

Later that day she phoned to say she could not retax it online as it kept rejecting the application, but could be retaxed using a V10. I said not to worry, you can download the V10 online, to which she said there was no link. Alright I would find the link on my computer and then print it off. Everytime I tried to print the V10 it locked my computer up and I had to reboot it, after ½ hour of this I gave up.

That evening I said not to worry I would get a V10 from the local Post Office and tax it the following day. The following morning I tried to get the V10 from my friendly Post Office, only to be told they no longer stock them as they can tax a car with the correct documents.

When I returned home last night and told my wife, she was very uncomplimentary about the whole system. She had telephoned the DVLA and after being transferred several times she finally spoke to someone about the problem she was experiencing. Only to be told her car was no longer registered to her!!!!!! No explination, but hopefully they are correcting their records and sending out the correct reminder immediately.

This morning I taxed the car on her documents, so it remains tax paid for another year. The strange thing was the lady in the Post Office said that last week many people could not use the online retax facility, she thought with the impending Budget they had pulled the system so dear Gordon could charge the new rates.

It'll probably surprise you that I do actually have rather a
lot of experience of towing, and had a few suggestions in
mind. But since the result last time was an alcohol-fuelled
rant, I'll give it a miss.

It doesn't surprise me at all NW, I'd already formed the idea that you had a rural upbringing and you've often shown a great deal of knowledge on the muddier/greasier end of running cars in the countryside. As for alcohol fuelled, the Rioja remark was aimed at Lud in a faux Rumpole style, hence the obsequious tone of that particular post.

It may surprise you that I have a great deal of respect for many of your views, but that doesn't mean I won't challenge dogmatic repetition of beliefs as facts. The debate is still very much alive and well in the scientific community and I see no reason why that shouldn't be replicated in the public arena.

Some of my remarks in the budget thread were provocative, but your extrapolation of the available data to form assumptions on my personal use and choice of a vehicle were equally provocative. Nevertheless it is obvious I have caused you personal offence and I wish to apologise here and now for the upset I have caused you.

That aside, it would be a shame if the OP missed out on any suggestions you might have because we fell out.

Coming home from work lunchtime and thought its hot in here - turned heater control down and nothing happened - the heater is controlled by a rotary nob - just dial in temp -It did seem to be up full but temp was set at 22c-- function to vents is press button - temp sensor on top of dash and believe cabin temp one is in passenger foot well - tried A/C on full cold and still red hot - could I be looking at electrical or mechanical - going to get handbook out and see if there is a fuse for heating but after that I will be up a gum tree - so if anyone has any ideas- anything at moment would help - Engine temp normal.

Sorted I think - the owner book was no help so I sat down to think it over logically -- Then I remembered what I did when my computer used to crash which was turn it off - well car had been off for a few hours so went down garden and cut a few sticks from hazelnut tree and bound them together - as the car is heavier than a computer tower I couldn't throw it across room so said to it "if you don't work properly I will thrash you to an inch of your life" - did my Basil Fawlty bit and lo and behold it worked OK - when I got home the heater was so hot you could hardly put hand in front of it but now worked fine - sat there and moved controls to every position and heat setting - A/C worked fine so keeping my fingers crossed. - hoping it was just stuck through not a lot of use.

The small job of changing the O ring seals on the low pressure fuel pipes of a Mercedes diesel has turned into a big one. After changing the seals, I asked SWMBO to start the car while I worked the disconnected throttle lever on the injector pump. When the fuel got through, and the engine fired, it sounded more like something Fred Dibnah would be proud of than the nice smooth 6 cylinder rumble I was expecting to hear as reward for my work.

The engine is an OM606, so, it's a 24 valve, naturally aspirated indirect diesel. With the inlet manifold off, it was obvious that the noise was coming from the rear inlet valve, which wasn't sealing properly, and allowing exhaust gas to be noisily spat out of the inlet port. With the extensive inlet manifold in place, you can't hear the problem at all. The leakage must sound worse than it actually is, because the cylinder is still firing - albeit probably not contributing all it should to the cause of making progress.

Anyway, I'm now starting to get the cylinder head off, and I would like to ask how people tend to deal with the timing chains on these - I think that the main difference on these engines to earlier MB diesels is purely aft of the timing chain, as the cams are geared together, and counter-rotate, rather than both being driven directly by the chain.

I'm intending to mark the chain and sprockets for both the cam and injector pump, cable tie the chain to the sprockets, and rig up a system using welding rod to keep some tension on the chain at all times, to stop it coming off the pump and crack sprockets. I also intend to initially lift the head by an inch or so, and re-secure the chain to the front cover before relaxing my grip on the cam sprocket to all me to remove the head fully. Is my paranoia justified? Or am I just making a fuss, and in reality, there isn't enough clearance for the chain to fall anywhere untoward?

if you ever have the dash out like i have , theres three/ four ? vacum pipes going to ignition switch, the headlights are also vacum controlled to raise/lower , i found this out when after replacing dash the head lights were "on the floor" and found a pipe not clipped on properly [ my fault ] .
