I have an S reg Renault Scenic.
I've noticed recently that when the brake lights are on and I indicate left, the left brake light flashes gently lighter and dimmer in time with the indicator light. And when the side lights are on it gets worse. Lights work normally when I indicate right.

It's that time of year (nearly) again when the Formula one circus rolls into town. Love it or hate it you can't ignore it.
What's everyone hopes, expectations, opinions??
Mine is forget all the pre season chit chat, Schumacher will struggle, Button will win a race (five seasons we've been waiting, Jenson!) and Montoya will win nothing (hopefully). Read more
Thats the trouble with you welsh miners - no class.
Can anyone tell me if/where the connector is to fit an external CD autochanger to my 04 Avant. Many people have told me that on the saloon it is under some trim in the nearside of the boot, is this the same in the Avant ? Read more
Thanks for this, I looked at the thread, and it wasn't quite the answer I'd expected but at least I know where I stand now.
Anyone come across this one?
Just heard of a new Phishing scam from a man in the Midlands.
Elderly chap rung up and asked if he was interested in a very good low cost insurance policy that paid a good lump sum in the event of death. How old are you etc. In the process he was asked what area he lived in and "just give me your card number and I will be able to give you a quote". The old chap was then offered a very good deal. "Can I put you down as interested then and send you a brochure to look at" Yes, OK. Right, just give me the number off your cheque book (account number) etc., for the notes here. And so it was going to go on. Fortunately the old chap rumbled it and terminated the call. Needless to say, trying 1471 did not reveal the caller's number.

Quite agree if you don't have a suitable socket nearby. This saves a break in the circuit that could become a loose connection one day.
However, if the slug (easier to spell the L'escargot and snail;) ) has a nearby ring main socket then it maybe just as easy to use that.
RF, whilst you're correct in principle about the wiring regs IIRC we're still allowed to use the red and black cable for a while yet, to allow stocks to dwindle.

Watching that James Bond tosh last night, with JB driving a 50's American monster in Cuba; do they still drive those old cars from the 30's and 50's out there, or are they allowed imports now ?! Read more
But none of them have one straight panel. And you should see the jaywalking. Not to mention the guys on the freeway with donkey carts. Real typical third world stuff. Mind you I don't blame them. Most of the people there are living on the smell of an oily rag or maybe less. No wonder they don't care about road rules. They have much more pressing worries.
A few weeks ago I wrote about the £25 surcharge that I received from a hire car company when they forwarded my name and address to the Police.
So for the clearly reckless speed on 36 mph I was effectively being fined twice. The form must have taken 2minutes at least to complete. They got the wrong county and incorect post code but unfortunately the summons did reach me.
I contacted the hire company and told them what I thought of the charge which was not pointed out to me and was £2.50p short of a day's car hire.It means they make more out of processing speeding tickets than hiring cars. I have heard nothing since.
So if it happens to you facing up to them seems to work.
Susprisingly when I posted orginally most replies thought the charge was fair. If anyone out there wants me to write out their name and address for £25 I am ready to oblige.
Cheers

are you saying you did not pay them?
in which case, consider the possibility that they will chase this debt later.
and consider the possibility that you may get increasing amounts of "administration charges" added.
and consider the possibility that you may get a ccj or bailiffs at your door if you persist in not paying?
so call me a wimp if you like, but i for one will not follow your example.
My Megane RT Sport (98) with the K7M 1.6 8v engine sounds rather tappetty. I have noticed it had been noisier ever since I changed the headgasket a few months ago. The camshaft looks fine, and I tweaked the rocker clearance a little which made things a little better; but it is still too noisy. Has anyone any suggestions to what I could do? The engine runs fine, but I'm trying to sell the car, but this noise is not appealling to buyers.

Thanks for the advice. I did change the cambelt and tensioner, so that could be a possibilty. I'll recheck the clearances, and check my feeler gauge with a micrometer too, in case that is out. Then I'll check the cambelt tension.
Iam about to change the gearbox oil on my primera,my dealer tells me i need 3.6 ltrs to fill it,.but my cd rom says 3.0 ltres for mine the 2.0 sr20de model, who is right? Read more
Get the Redline then. I think Demon Tweeks sell it for about £10 a quart - you will need £40 worth!
Hello all,
When drving home from work today I was hit by a Fiesta - awful driving on his part. The driver made a run for it.
I got his number plate and told the Police immediately. No witnesses, though, as I tried to chase him!
What are the chances of:
1. The Police tracing him
2. Him having any insurance
3. My car getting fixed and me not losing my no claims
There is superficial damage to the front driver's side and the tracking is out +++. I phoned my insurer and they said I'm not entitled to anything until I either make a claim at the expense of my no claims or the Police find the driver. Theoretically, if I take it to my local SEAT garage and get it fixed (at least the tracking) is the insurance company likely to pay for it retrospectively should everything work out OK?
Thanks for your help,

he should have some corresponding marks on his car too, unless he's popped to the spray/bodyshop in the meantime
Hi, I'm looking for a little bit of advice for my dad. He is looking to change his car some time in the next few months. He currently has a 1.4 Renault Megane (V reg) and is considering a Toyota Corrolla of no more than 3 years old. He wants a diesel this time around. He does around 10,000 miles a year (I think thats what he said anyway). He uses the car mainly for going to work and doing all the running around locally but it will be used for longer runs aswell, on motorways and country roads. Basically, was just wondering what people make of them and whether this would meet his needs.
Any comments would be greatly recieved.
Thanks Read more
In my opinion the current Corolla 'does exactly what it says on the tin'. We paid £9400 for a new 1.4 T2 five door in Sept '03; it has been blameless so far. It is comfortable, has more leg room in both front and rear than my MkIV Golf and the ergonomics are excellent. As small petrol engines go, the 1.4 is quite powerful (98bhp). The only criticism I can think of relates to the course nature of the accelerator which takes some getting used to. Other benefits include a sweet chain cam engine, a full size spare wheel, remote central locking on all models. The handbrake is much better that many other similar cars; it uses a dedicated drum brake (with normal disc for main ABS braking).
Thanks to all of you. It's good to know that I can rely on sound advice - as soon as I can scrape the car out from under the snow - I'll 'av a go!! Cheers, much appreciated.
